Started re-reading the Discworld series (really need something to cheer me up atm) and it just struck me.

Granny Weatherwax - Maggie Smith maybe?

A younger Kenneth Branagh would be a decent Moist.

Charles Dance was amazing as Vetinari, I couldn't cast anyone else.

I think Lee Mack could make a good Rincewind or Dibbler

I always thought Brenda Fricker would make a great Granny Weatherwax.
Miriam Margoles definitely has the Nanny Ogg spirit, I see her as a wiry woman though.

MM is absolutely Nanny Ogg in my head, and Maggi Smith is Granny. Magrat (autocorrect aptly wanted to make that Margaret) would have been Emma Chambers if she was still alive.

Back in the 90s there was an animated version of Wyrd Sisters that had Annette Crosbie voicing Granny Weatherwax. Now whenever I read any of the witches series I hear her voice as Granny.

Its an abomination unto Nuggan, completely misses the point of many of the characters.

Stephen Briggs is Vetinari but Jeremy Irons was an adequate understudy.

I also have Annette Crosby locked in my head as Granny. There was a real Gytha, but I think Nanny is hard to cast because of the sharp undertone to the buxom wench. I've seen Whoopi Goldberg suggested - she could straddle that range.

I agree that MM doesn't necessarily have that edge under the humour, but physically, and comedically she absolutely hits the mark for me.

I think Gwyneth Paltrow is my mental image of Magrat. Probably hits slightly too close to her actual personality though, so she won't do it

A mate of my brother’s is an actor and I’ve always thought he would be perfect casting for Rincewind - he’s done quite a lot of gormless or unfortunate roles (he was baked into a pie in Game of Thrones)
