AIBU to ask if you wear a dress without even thinking about it?

Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

I wear dresses all the time. I rarely ever wear jeans. If I’m not leaving the house I just wear loungewear though (loose bottoms and T-shirt). I love dresses!

Teessider · 06/06/2021 11:39

@ComDummings see, I'm only leaving the house today to pop to the shops! I feel ridiculously overdressed! But comfortable. It's as comfortable as my jeans

I often feel slight more exposed and vulnerable in a dress but I still wear it anyway!

JuneJustRains · 06/06/2021 11:41

I wear dresses sometimes if I’m feeling hot and bothered and as if I don’t want anything touching me.

I rarely wear them outside the house, thinking about it. It’s not ‘me’.

Piglet89 · 06/06/2021 11:41

I always wear dresses to cover my “hippies large” as my mum used to say.

SmokeyDevil · 06/06/2021 11:41

I feel over dressed now in jeans as I've spent the last year either in sports wear or pyjamas. Not really much in between. Grin

It just depends on what you're used to doesn't it? You'll get used to wearing dresses. I wore them for a bit for work and it felt weird at first but then got used to it. They are more comfy than jeans really, jeans in hot weather is awful sometimes, a dress keeps you feeling cool.

PaperMonster · 06/06/2021 11:42

I’ve a couple of casual dresses I wear frequently. Today I’m in a skirt.

JammyGem · 06/06/2021 11:43

I love wearing dresses because I find them really comfortable, but I never wear them out of the house. As a larger woman I'm convinced people will laugh or comment (as experienced in the past) so I "cover up" when out of the house. I say if you feel confident in wearing them you should go for it! You don't sound overdressed at all Smile

Mumoblue · 06/06/2021 11:43

I rarely ever wear dresses. They’re just not very “me”. I tend to feel a bit ridiculous in dresses, plus they often make me feel constricted.
I like trousers much better.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 06/06/2021 11:43

I wear them all the time. They're an easy way to dress. Great in hot weather, too.

HeartShapedBalloon · 06/06/2021 11:44

I wear dresses all the time, even if I don't leave the house! Usually I'll wear white plimsoles or flip flops if I'm going out the house and the weather is nice. Sometimes tights and boots, depending on the dress or the weather.

TheFutureIsUncertain · 06/06/2021 11:44

Yes for me, mostly at home, but only out and about when the weather is warm. I just like them. Of course, I wear different/appropriate clothes gardening, cleaning, going for a run!!

pointythings · 06/06/2021 11:44

I wear dresses all the time, I just like the feel of them. Always used to go for long ones but having lost weight I now also have shorter ones. I wear them with mad coloured tights and colourful lace up boots (in winter). In summer I still prefer long dresses but that's because they make me feel cooler.

Ninkanink · 06/06/2021 11:45

Yes I wear dresses a lot and never give it a moment’s thought.

Dresses are much more comfortable to wear, less hassle - no need to consider two or more elements of your outfit, and in the summer especially they feel much more relaxed (to me anyway).

DareIask · 06/06/2021 11:45

I decided only yesterday that I'm going to wear either a skirt or a dress every day. I like them, they make me feel good and they're cooler.

I'm in jeans today 🤦🏻‍♀️

SleepingStandingUp · 06/06/2021 11:46

I wear dresses primarily, skirts occasionally. I'm fat so tend to have leggings or rights underneath and then sandals or flats on.
Don't own any trousers and haven't worn jeans on over a year as they don't fit flight since I had my twins. I have some shorts

0blio · 06/06/2021 11:46

I haven't worn dresses or a skirt for at least 5 years and only then on the hottest days of summer while working in a building without aircon.

coogee · 06/06/2021 11:47

I never give it a second thought either.

The3Ls · 06/06/2021 11:48

Yep wear dresses 90% of the time. More flattering on my "mum tum" don't have to match top and bottom. Wear with tights leggings doc maters pumps if want a more casual look. Never wear heels so it's not about being glamorous just what I find comfy

Pewpew · 06/06/2021 11:49

I wear dresses lots

GravityFalls · 06/06/2021 11:50

I often wear dresses and my DD is a dress fan too. They’re just so easy to wear! Especially a jersey maxi/midi dress with trainers, no need even to worry about shaved or tanned legs! It helps to be past the age of self-consciousness about these things.

caringcarer · 06/06/2021 11:50

I wear a dress most days without thought. Short sleeves in spring and summer and long sleeves with leggings in winter. I always feel comfortable.

AnUnoriginalUsername · 06/06/2021 11:50

I don't wear dresses casually. I usually wear a dress if we're going out unless I feel fat then I wear jeans and a shirt. I wear joggers or shorts mostly during the day

Teessider · 06/06/2021 11:52

It was only yesterday I found a style that actually suits my weird shape! I have the figure of a bloody parsnip, so I have a flat stomach and ok legs but I'm a bit chunky up top. And I'm short too.

I can't wear maxi as look like a ship in full sail. Has to have sleeves longer than cap length. Can't be above the knee. Has to be a nice stretchy material.

So I'm not easily pleased it appears

I envy all of you who just throw one on

Dresses and trainers nearly everyday, whether I'm seeing people or not
I love my dresses
