Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

I only wear dresses in summer.

TheFairyCaravan · 06/06/2021 12:38

@Appuskidu the Berry print and the Navy stripe. I saw a lady in Aldi in the tan and that was nice too.

Imnothereforthedrama · 06/06/2021 12:38

I always wear dresses I feel more comfortable in them . I must have dozens from work dress / casual / summer / winter / occasion .

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/06/2021 12:38

dark brown me too. That was another reason I went into Next. An equally chesty friend wears their dresses too and she always looks great. I had hoped the dressed would do the same for me, sadly I am shorter and rounder, but I look OK,.I think 🤔

Peoniesandpeaches · 06/06/2021 12:39

I find dresses faster and less effort full than wearing jeans and a top

DinosaurDiana · 06/06/2021 12:39

I find dresses just get in the way, and I get chub rub.

smallgoon · 06/06/2021 12:40

I rarely wear dresses despite owning loads! Even when it's super hot I'd rather have a playsuit on or nice shorts.

WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 06/06/2021 12:43

I feel very overdressed in a dress. I always think if I got a different job or moved to a different area I'd start wearing them. I think if I started now my friends and colleagues would think I'd gone mad 🤣

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 06/06/2021 12:43
@AccidentallyOnPurpose where is that from? It's lovely!
This will definitely show my lack of style and fashion sense.

I have them in green,navy , wine and dark grey. That's my work week sorted .

Cryalot2 · 06/06/2021 12:44

I am a dress person and only started to wear trousers occasionally when dog walking ( they are freezing, leggings and a dress much warmer)
The recent casual and oh so comfortable dresses I have bought came from Tresspass sale.
I am a maxi dress fan. I have got some good ones on amazon. Pre lockdown when I had a life I used to buy from phase eight sales.
I mostly wear them with trainers which seems to be acceptable now.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/06/2021 12:44

@DinosaurDiana

I find dresses just get in the way, and I get chub rub.
Then you too need to check out Snag tights and buy a pair of their Chub Rubs. Totally changed my sweaty summer work - I need to be able to crawl into the back of kitchen cupboards to read badly placed water meters 😁

I love dresses, for many casual ones for the winter and summer. In the summer it’s the best outfit ever, just pop it on, don’t have to think about matching anything. I would wear them to go to the local shop, play in the garden, go to the park, watch tv so yes, It’s normal to me.

I don’t own any skirts though. I find it impossible to match them with tops to look good.

SuperCaliFragalistic · 06/06/2021 12:45

I wear dresses a lot. I'm overweight and hate waistbands so rarely wear Jean's or skirts.

Gwenhwyfar · 06/06/2021 12:46

I've got casual dresses. I don't see wearing a dress as dressing smart.

shouldistop · 06/06/2021 12:46

I wear dresses nearly everyday.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 06/06/2021 12:47

I have a bunch of Indian cotton (well, viscose but you know what I mean) bias-cut dresses that I wear casually in the warmer weather. Mostly just below knee, or 3/4 length. I never used to wear dresses a lot - but in Australian summer, it gets too blooming hot to have too much on, so these loose dresses are great - nice and wafty!

I don't currently fit into my jeans :( so am having to wear linen trousers etc over winter or thick stockings/long socks and skirts.

PreservativeFree · 06/06/2021 12:48

I do now I can wear them with trainers. Never when it was accepted that you'd wear uncomfortable shoes with them.

ilovesooty · 06/06/2021 12:48

@CuriousaboutSamphire

iloveyou you sound like a candidate for a Snag conversion. They say they made tights wearable, they aren't kidding. I hate tights, fucking awful uncomfortable things. Snags are bloody excellent!
Seconded.

I've got a few dresses, mostly from Mountain Warehouse.

KarensGobbyChops · 06/06/2021 12:48

YANBU dresses are my default. It's one item so by definition far less faff than thinking about which separates look right. I
do those too but to me, esp when in a rush, dresses are a godsend.

ElderMillennial · 06/06/2021 12:48

I put a dress on today as it just seemed like an easy and comfy thing to throw on and it's been warm the past few days

I don't usually wear dresses at home but I think they can be casual

RosaBudDrood · 06/06/2021 12:49

@ComDummings

I wear dresses all the time. I rarely ever wear jeans. If I’m not leaving the house I just wear loungewear though (loose bottoms and T-shirt). I love dresses!
Me too. I do not even own a pair of jeans lol (but I do have other trousers)

I love dresses and skirts! I have IBS, which can cause a lot of bloating, so find loose dresses and skirts much more comfortable than jeans.

Gwenhwyfar · 06/06/2021 12:49

"Mind you, wearing dresses means making sure my legs are shaved and mostly I can’t be arsed 🤷‍♀️"

I wear opaque tights 90% of the year, no shaving required.
In the summer you could wear a dress that comes down to your feet.

theshadeofgreen · 06/06/2021 12:49

I want to love dresses but I hate my thoughts rubbing together. I'm a 12/14 and walking anywhere in a dress leaves me with sore thighs. Fine if I Chuck Spanx on underneath but kind of defeats the object of an airy dress when it's boiling

theshadeofgreen · 06/06/2021 12:50

No, no... my thighs.
My thoughts don't rub.

ilovesooty · 06/06/2021 12:51

@PreservativeFree

Same here. Trainers or Fly ankle boots in the winter.
