Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

I have worn dresses and varying lengths of leggings or Snags Chub Rubs or tights for years. Cooler, less restrictive and easy to layer through all seasons.

Nothing to do with being feminine, everything to do with being easy to wear and comfortable.

I hate waistbands with something of a vengeance.

Teessider · 06/06/2021 11:53

@SmellyBottomHead what type of dresses?

OP posts:
Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 06/06/2021 11:53

I only wear dresses outside the house as they are just so much comfier than jeans etc. Much cooler in the summer too.

Trytothinkofaname · 06/06/2021 11:53

Um. We need links to the dresses please (desperately trying to find mid jersey dresses)...

Teessider · 06/06/2021 11:54

And where do people buy them from? I got mine from monsoon yesterday - nice weight, suited me ok. But not an exercise in frugality particularly.

I wear dresses quite a lot when its warm. I find them so comfy and rarely wear jeans. In the winter you can wear them with tights - just as comfy and warm 🙂

JaniceBattersby · 06/06/2021 11:55

I feel exactly the same. Didn’t wear a skirt or dress for years then last year bought a couple of maxi skirts and now I own a few dresses too. I still feel like I’m very dressed up in them even though they’re casual but my body shape does suit them and I like them so I wear them anyway.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 06/06/2021 11:56

@Teessider

It was only yesterday I found a style that actually suits my weird shape! I have the figure of a bloody parsnip, so I have a flat stomach and ok legs but I'm a bit chunky up top. And I'm short too.

I can't wear maxi as look like a ship in full sail. Has to have sleeves longer than cap length. Can't be above the knee. Has to be a nice stretchy material.

So I'm not easily pleased it appears

I envy all of you who just throw one on

Do you do sports? I do and have the same issue with my triangle torso
MuchTooTired · 06/06/2021 11:56

I hate wearing dresses. I tend to wear them only for getting married/someone else’s weddings, job interviews and funerals.

I’m so much more comfortable in jeans or shorts. My DD (3) only wears dresses however, and after much requesting demanding from her I’ve bought floaty long skirts which I’m loving! I’m amazed at the change in myself.

Lemonlemon88 · 06/06/2021 11:57

I always wear dresses. Tops and jeans much harder with my figure.

Teessider · 06/06/2021 11:57

@Letsallscreamatthesistene ah no. Not sporty at all alas. Just a rather tubby size 12/14 with a flat stomach - I taper in a bit!

This is one of the ones I got yesterday. Jersey and comfortable and flattering on. I'd have preferred a plain colour though but meh. It's a good length on me - I'm 5 ft 3

Can you link to the dresses please op? I’m looking for some summery day dresses and not found anything I like.

HazelBite · 06/06/2021 11:59

Dresses are so much more comfortable than trousers/jeans also more comfortable than tops and skirts. Nowadays they "day dresses" are less structured and made of easy gare fabrics.
There are very few women (in my opinion) who look nice or smart in leggings or joggers
Saying that I am wearing jeggings and a loose top today Grin
However the majority of the time I wear dresses. I often get the comment "what are you dressed up for?" purely because of wearing dresses most of the time.

vampirethriller · 06/06/2021 11:59

I only wear dresses and skirts, jeggings if I'm going in the allotment. I can't stand how jeans and trousers feel.

DeflatedGinDrinker · 06/06/2021 12:00

I haven't worn jeans in years I always wear dresses and skirts

SinkGirl · 06/06/2021 12:00

I rarely wear dresses as even though I’m short, even if I wear dresses past my knees, I seem incapable of even bending over slightly without flashing my bum. I don’t understand it - my body must be a weird shape. I do have a few from Seasalt that are quite swingy and comfortable. Mind you, wearing dresses means making sure my legs are shaved and mostly I can’t be arsed 🤷‍♀️

ScarlettDarling · 06/06/2021 12:00

Sorry, cross post!
That green dress is lovely but wouldn’t work on me. I’m 5’11” and the waist would be far too high.

Teessider · 06/06/2021 12:01

@ScarlettDarling that's a shame. I'm quite short so have my own issues

This was another one

Oh that is fancy.Grin

I used to live in jeans and trakkies, but since I can't wear them at work I swapped to leggings and some type of dress (mostly tunic or tshirt dresses). So yeah, I'll put on a dress , even if staying at home and not think anything about it but they're mostly sporty or block coloured. I also skip the leggings at home, especially now that it's warm.

However, a dress like that would definitely feel "must be going somewhere " to me.Smile

I wear dresses and skirts overseas on holiday, it can be 30 degrees here and I still wear trousers and jeans, thinking about it now, I have no idea why🤔

Echobelly · 06/06/2021 12:02

Yeah, I wear dresses quite often, and all year round.

SmellyBottomHead · 06/06/2021 12:02

@Teessider Asos and New look do some fabulous dresses. I sound a similar shape to you. I buy mostly above the knee dresses for both summer and winter, with a few maxi dresses thrown in
Find what suits you and stick to it

BiBabbles · 06/06/2021 12:03

I feel I'm a comfortable dresser, and wear skirts 90% of the time (the other 10% is utilikilts and leggings when I'm being more active).

I stopped getting dresses because even though they seem like the same thing as a shirt and skirt, my brain gets sort of weird and uncomfortable if I can't access my torso and my shape doesn't seem to match in sizes so struggled to find any I felt were really flattering. That's part of why I gave up on trousers, It was difficult getting anything that I thought looked nice and was comfortable that dealt with my waist, hips and thighs. With a loose skirt, I only have to be concerned about my waist and the skirt length and with utilikilts its hips and making sure I get the men/unisex version rather than women (which are shorter for reasons).

I tend to buy either secondhand from charity shops/ebay charity shops, depop for other secondhand stuff, or though places like everythingis5pounds.

PawsQueen · 06/06/2021 12:03

I wear them all the time, to work nearly every day and casually as well
In summer with sandals, winter with tights and ankle boots
