Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

I have a dress similar from new look @Teessider, I love a ditsy pattern it covers a multiple of sins

DidgeDoolittle · 06/06/2021 12:17

I wear a dress everyday. They're so comfortable and easy.
Sandals, flip flops or trainers in the summer. Boots, thick tights and layers in the winter. What's not to like?

LivingOnTheVeg · 06/06/2021 12:18

I only ever wear dresses and the occasional skirt. I’ve never liked trousers or jeans or joggers, and it’s what I always wear, so I don’t think twice about wearing one!

Standrewsschool · 06/06/2021 12:18

@NotMeNoNo

I want to see some of these everyday dresses. I can't get away from the dressed up feeling either. I can just about manage winter with opaque tights but summer is impossible. Pasty legs, no. Below knees, no (proportions wrong). Leggings, no. I'm stuck.
Everyday dresses in a variety of styles.

wrap

shift

midaxi

v neck

DidgeDoolittle · 06/06/2021 12:19

You asked earlier where to buy dresses. I get loads of casual jersey dresses from ASOS. Actually they have all kinds of dresses

daisypond · 06/06/2021 12:20

I wear dresses all the time in summer. Or skirts. Never trousers. They’re easy to put on, easy to wear, cool, not constricting. I wear them a lot in winter too, but not every day.

Wonderwine · 06/06/2021 12:20

I always feel that most dresses are too 'girly' too - can't be doing with all the 'ditsy print' stuff, or all the manmade fabrics and a lot of the plain jersey or linen type ones simply aren't very flattering (for anyone!)

elfycat · 06/06/2021 12:20

Another one who wears dresses nearly everyday. Throw it over your head and you're done for the day. I've taken to buying a second one of anything I love as I will wear it out and regret not having a spare.

NotMeNoNo · 06/06/2021 12:21

@Standrewsschool I know stupid question really!

BumCat · 06/06/2021 12:21

I used to never think about it. But my feelings on dresses have become more complicated since putting on weight and moving to the windy coast. I still love them though. It’s just not as stress free as it once was. Grin

musthavebeenlove · 06/06/2021 12:21

I wear a lot of long dresses and maxi skirts because I find them very comfortable.
They’re mostly made of synthetic materials that are easy to wash and don’t need ironing.
So yes I would but it depends on how comfortable the dress is, definitely wouldn’t be walking around the home in a bodycon mini dress!

IfNot · 06/06/2021 12:21

I wear dresses all the time in autumn winter, when I can wear boots. I love a midi dress, but my ankles are too stumpy to wear them with flats:(
I like those dresses you bought OP. Very character in the French countryside who causes tongues to wag in the village Ohh La La!

Comefromaway · 06/06/2021 12:22

I find trousers and jeans really uncomfortable and especially in summer they tend to give me thrush. I think it’s my shape, I’m short with a small waist but wide hips and a tum.

Dresses and floaty skirts are much more flattering and comfortable. I used to get lots from Debenhams but now I’ve found quite a few styles I like in Seasalt. The ones you linked are lovely but would be too long for me.

Comefromaway · 06/06/2021 12:22

Oh, and Sainsbury’s I get a lot from, especially skirts.

This. Love dresses
Ginfilledcats · 06/06/2021 12:23

Ooh I love dresses and wear midi dresses or skirts almost daily. Ive I'm not leaving the house then yeah, joggers or running pants (that never get used to actually run in because who has the time). But I guess I leave the house most days. I wear them with white trainers so I think that's quite casual. If im going for a mean or somewhere dressier I'll wear shoes or boots or heels etc.

Enjoy!

(Though I admit theyre are pain when you have a toddler to chase after. I'm forever kneeling on them and popping buttons off

shesellsseacats · 06/06/2021 12:23

I used to live in jeans, now I wear dresses all the time, often with cropped leggings if they're short (couldn't care less about the hate for this on here, it's comfortable and allows me to not have to restrict my movements due worrying about flashing my underwear when I sit down!).

As I've put on (a lot) more weight I find it harder to find comfortable jeans and easier to wear dresses.

I love dresses from Boden but they're pricey so I get them in the sale.

beela · 06/06/2021 12:23

There are so many beautiful dresses around at the moment, but I can't get over the fact that they are so much less practical than jeans or shorts. I do try! But then I get annoyed with all the fabric getting in the way whole I'm trying to do things. I used to wear them to the office but can't really make myself for wfh.

Congressdingo · 06/06/2021 12:23

I bought several dresses for a wedding soon. I dont know which I will wear yet but after the wedding they are all going to the charity shop bar one. That one is an orange flowery print one with (and this is what makes it) an inbuilt bra that actually fits me.

So I'm very fussy about clothes, no long sleeves, sweetheart or v neck, no puffy sleeves blah blah. And I'm not normally a dress person. These dresses for the wedding are the first I've had in decades. I was all set for a trouser suit then I thought fuck it, buy a dress and be done, it's only one day.
I've been wearing them on random days to get used to the feel. Admit i dont much like them but also i dont think I'll have to wear one again for a long time.
I got a job that requires never wearing dresses, I live in Jeans or shorts year round and loose tshirts.

CaveMum · 06/06/2021 12:23

I wear dresses most of the time. Makes outfit selection so much easier than wearing separates - in winter I just put tights and a cardigan on with them!

I’ve bought several recently from Boden and they’re fantastic - flattering shape, not too expensive plus pockets! I also like Joe Browns for nice lightweight summer dresses. Footwear-wise I usually put on ballet pumps (from Butterfly Twists) for the school/nursery run and heels when I get to the office. If I’m working from home I’m bare foot.

Iloveyou3x · 06/06/2021 12:23

I like midi dresses that are loose and comfy and don’t make me hot or feel like my tummy looks big. Dresses that require tights are a no go as tights never stay up!! I do feel weird in jeans now as we spent most of the last year in pyjamas or comfies.

VienneseWhirligig · 06/06/2021 12:24

I wear dresses every day. Never knowingly underdressed Grin but I just feel more confident in them, because I know they suit me and it is what people are used to seeing me in - I would probably attract comments if I wore jeans (only from family or friends, and not negative, but I don't have to have those conversations if I just wear dresses).

LH1987 · 06/06/2021 12:24

I am much more comfy in a dress or skirt. I have big thighs and jeans tend to get uncomfortable

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/06/2021 12:25

coathanger I have to have pockets that safely take a phone charger. Next's shift dresses do, either side seam or quite a deep patch pocket. That was got me through their doors in the first place - dresses with decent pockets 😁

daisypond · 06/06/2021 12:25

Today I’m in a blue, green and grey cotton checked print (almost like a tartan print) wrap dress. It’s lovely. It’s second hand. I wouldn’t wear jersey or anything too ditsy.
