I've had 2 jabs, but I defend to the death your right to decline the vaccine.

I might put my arguments about science and social responsibility, but I'll listen properly to your counter arguments. It's your body and your choice.

Hyperbole much? I doubt you’d fight to the death.

UnfriendlyFriendly · 05/06/2021 19:20

I agree. I'm double vaccinated and I support anyone's right to decline the vaccine. I also support anyone's right to criticise those who do decline the vaccine for being selfish and uninformed (99.9% of the time).

Toottooot · 05/06/2021 19:20

Superb.

Oly4 · 05/06/2021 19:20

But it’s not just your body your choice, it’s that your choice impacts on those around you. And in a big way.. it’s a pandemic

This. Decline by all means. It's 100% your body and your choice. If it's because you believe vaccines cause [insert stupid idea] I'll judge you for that.

Your entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.

SuperSleepyBaby · 05/06/2021 19:22

I don’t support the right of those who work with vulnerable people to continue to work without the vaccine. They need to find another job rather than putting others at risk.

I disagree, there is a bigger picture than this regarding body autonomy. As soon as there is a precedent set for the government being able to legislate what medical procedures can and cant be performed without our permission it can become a slippery slope. I am very pro vaccine and awaiting my second jab but firmly disagree that anyone should be forced to take a vaccine.

And to quote Claudia Winkcleman - that's a bit dramatic Grin

Maybe it's selfish but I'm not going to be spending any of my time defending people's medical choices, I'm sure they don't care what I think.

callmemaybee · 05/06/2021 19:25

I’m early 20s so haven’t been offered the vaccine yet. However I am a keyworker and could get it through work but I haven’t yet.

I’m not anti-vax at all, but hearing claims that certain vaccine brands could be more potentially harmful to me than COVID itself doesn’t fill me with confidence

Hopefully when my turn comes with the NHS, more research is available so I don’t feel like a guinea pig

DrSbaitso · 05/06/2021 19:25

There are very few things I'd defend to the death.

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 05/06/2021 19:25

Folk who decline are a small minority. We can reach herd immunity without them.

What’s your take on ‘alternative therapists’ who will no longer see clients who are vaccinated?

I feel like this is a double-win for vaccinated people: 1) protected from covid, 2) protected from whacko-scammers.

In the UK.

In Japan they can't. Would you feel differently then?

Imapotato · 05/06/2021 19:28

I agree. I’ve had both vaccines, but that was my choice. I wouldn’t want to take anyone else’s choice away from them.

does op have dc? doubt they'd be very impressed by such a selfish action on your part. if you didn't mean it why say it ? Confused everyone is entitled but to choose, but it's selfish whenit impacts on others.
ilovesooty · 05/06/2021 19:29

That's nice.
Of course people have the right to refuse the vaccine. Unless it's medically contraindicated I'll make my own judgement about those who do and are vocal in their refusal.

I don't know if you're right about that, but I'd prefer to protect people who can't be vaccinated rather than people who won't.
flippertygibbit · 05/06/2021 19:33

I am double vaccinated but have no issue with those who aren't (including my DP) - their body, their choice and not my business to judge. Actually feel a bit of a fool for having it once they started spouting about boosters..........I won't be taking that.

emmylousings · 05/06/2021 19:37

People who decline the vaccine are within their rights, but it's morally questionable, unless there are medical reasons not too. And a 1 in million chance of brain hemorrhage or thinking its going to chip you, are not included.

People have been referring to guinea pigs since the first jabs were given in December

How many billions of jabs have to be given until we are out of guinea pig territory? I see we are now over 2 billion

I'm interested in what the comfort level is for this, what is the number that tips the scale

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 05/06/2021 19:40

@Toottooot

Depends. How many of them are there? What therapies? Again, sounds like a tiny number of folk.

Both risks are tiny. One is a little tinier than the other. The risk of you passing it to someone vulnerable in a key worker role is higher than either.
