To despair that people still vote Tory given their track record and outright dishonesty?

I don't get it. Its depressing. We deserve better than this surely? Why give them the green light? What kind of society do we want? One where liars get our approval?

OP posts:
QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 05/05/2021 20:05

People are entitled to vote for whoever they want and may have different views to you about what they want and who is likely to deliver that. I think your view is rather too simplistic

DorisLessingsCat · 05/05/2021 20:07

You don't have the imagination to understand why someone might have different political views to you?

adawong · 05/05/2021 20:09

Because they are all cunts who eat kittens for breakfast.
Is that what you were hoping to hearBiscuit

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 05/05/2021 20:11

I’ll vote for them. Sorry op.

LemonRoses · 05/05/2021 20:13

I agree. It’s incredible that some of our poorest communities will still vote for them.

I cannot understand how people would vote for such a total lack on integrity
I cannot understand how people are willing to accept one of the highest excess death rates in the world just because they can now sit outside Weatherspoons.
I sadly believe they feel Brexit was a win because of the referendum result and the fact we’ve left the EU bit aren’t seeing the devastation it has reaped.
Mainly I think it’s really sad that there is a move towards far right politics, othering and a lack of compassion for those less fortunate.

No, cunts are useful.
NotFrozen · 05/05/2021 20:17

Just stop. I keep seeing posts like this being added as new threads. Is this coming from Labour HQ?

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 05/05/2021 20:18

God I question the intelligence of people who start threads like this.
You REALLY can't imagine that some people have different opinions, life experiences and beliefs from you?
I agree. It’s incredible that some of our poorest communities will still vote for them.
Also loathe these pompous "alas, they know not what they vote for" comments. Honestly.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 05/05/2021 20:23

I hate them too, I could never vote for them, they are an absolute shower of shite and the worst government in living memory, my mum in her 60s says the same.

So what does that say about the opposition? That an incompetent government full of liars looks a better option? We have had years of the tories now, wtf have labour been doing in that time? Labour have been absolutely fucking useless since Corbyn, I had hopes for Starmer but other than being reasonable at PMQs (which you'd expect from a lawyer), what has he done? I have no idea what labour's policies actually are. I don't know what they stand for anymore and I don't think Starmer and the idiots who surround him do either.

I've always voted labour but until they can tell me what a woman is they won't be getting a vote from me. I totally understand women on here who will vote Tory because ironically they seem to be the only party who have any concept of women's rights, who thought anyone would ever write that sentence?! I can't vote Tory myself but I get it.

I'm furious at labour, they have been so crap for so long that a fucking clown like Boris has appeared to be a better option to many people. Labour are a huge reason as to why we have such a crap government. We have no opposition, I won't vote for anyone right now and I feel completely politically homeless.

flashylamp · 05/05/2021 20:25

I don't think OP had trouble understanding people have different views. I think OP has trouble understanding why anyone would support the Tory view. It's a reasonable thing to ask. I don't get it either.

Perfectly put.
MyDogIsDrivingMeMad · 05/05/2021 20:28

No political party is pure and noble, no matter what side it's on. They all have their problems. They're led by humans, and many of those aren't even particularly good humans.

If you don't want to vote for a party full of liars, you'll probably have to stop voting.

Follow my example and take a step back from political news. The politicians will still go on sucking, but you might find life a bit more pleasant.

TownTalkJewels · 05/05/2021 20:29

No viable alternative.

The last election was like lining up to choose which way you want to be executed.

Awful.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 05/05/2021 20:31

I sympathise, flashbac.

Sums it up perfectly.

I live in Scotland and a lot of people will vote for them to try and keep out the SNP. I’m voting labour to do the same in my constituency, but would both Tory over SNP, without a shadow of a doubt.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 05/05/2021 20:34

I’m old. I’ve seen quite a few governments - politicians lie and feather their own nests. Most parties can’t even look you in the eye and define the word ‘woman’ these days.

Justanotherlurker · 05/05/2021 20:34

This type of reasoning hasn't worked for over a decade now, it is time for some self reflection instead of essentially calling others 'thick' under the guise of faux innocence.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 05/05/2021 20:36

And let’s not forget who dragged us into the shit storm that was the Iraq War, on a whole mountain of lies.

I'm a Tory voter and personally prefer babies to kittens, Grin

So pleased to see Labour bots working hard. They've got nothing else to do since the chance of Labour winning an election are vanishingly small, fortunately.

UrAWizHarry · 05/05/2021 20:38

YANBU. It amazes me given their track record that people still look at them and go "yes please".

WTAF do they need to do to convince people they are utterly unfit to govern? It's hard to imagine, really.

lavenderlou · 05/05/2021 20:38

It sums up the British public really that Boris Johnson and the Tory party have lied outrageously for years and it's only when Bozo spends too much on wallpaper that people start to show some outrage.

NiceGerbil · 05/05/2021 20:39

The opposition is useless though.

So although there's all the lies/ dodgy deals etc the main alternative is crap in other ways.

I don't have anyone to vote for. I'd never vote Tory but the other options are all bollocks as well.

I genuinely think our political system is broken.

Exactly this
OldScrappyAndHungry · 05/05/2021 20:41

Totally agree with you OP. It’s deeply depressing. I think Johnson could order the Murder of every old person in this country and people would still wring their hands and say “what’s the alternative?” Hmm
