To not want to shop at Tesco because of this?

Prices gone up generally unless you sign up to their club card. Significantly cheaper (reasonably priced) products if you're a club card holder. I reckon most people just sign up to the club card. I can't help but feel massively inclined to shop elsewhere (aldi) because I hate this kind of marketing. Not sure why it makes me feel like this. Pretty trivial. Maybe I'm far too stubborn. Anyone else feel like this or just me?

Well you’re not BU to not want to sign up to a club card and you’re not BU to shop elsewhere but i guess club card is similar to nectar and whatever else.

radiateforme · 30/04/2021 21:20

And sorry if it has been like this for ages. Haven't been in a Tesco since way before lockdown. Was a bit meh to see nappies at £9 for regular customers and £4.50 for club card holders.

I feel the same

kowari · 30/04/2021 21:20

Doesn't bother me. I do my weekly shop at Aldi but have a Tesco clubcard and take advantage of offers when it suits me. Points go towards my mobile bill. I don't see the problem?

radiateforme · 30/04/2021 21:21

I don't sign up to anything as they always find some way or another to email you and I hate spam 😅

You get discounts and offers for your information. I can't see anything wrong with it.

It's not a big deal if Tesco records what brand of coffee I am buying.

ghostsliveinmyhouse · 30/04/2021 21:23

Why wouldn't you want a Clubcard?

I get money off coupons in the post, and my points get me free meals or days out.

blissfulllife · 30/04/2021 21:23

I did the same. I switched to another super market. Think it's a bloody cheek

kowari · 30/04/2021 21:23

I don't get emails from them. If I did I would just unsubscribe.

radiateforme · 30/04/2021 21:25

I guess I just don't like the whole loyalty scheme thing. I genuinely think if I had loyalty cards I'd spend way more than I do now without. Their aim is for a high cart value. I get it, just annoys me for some reason. Clearly I'm in a minority which is fine 😁

I have had a Clubcard since they came out. I get one email a week, which I could unsubscribe to if I wanted. I don't see the problem.

The Clubcard points I get, have saved me a vast amount of money over the years. I saved £600 on a holiday, I have annual passes to the zoo, and they've paid for my RAC subscription and my railcard among other things.

Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2021 21:26

I just have the Clubcard to get the deals, I can delete spam emails, but that said I never get any emails from Tesco at all. So it's worth it.

LizBennet · 30/04/2021 21:28

I don’t get spammed off Tesco. I was signed up to the club card years ago though, I’ve got used to making sure I take it with me now as the price difference can be steep.

I don't know why you'd think you'd spend more. I don't even think about my card in that regard. I buy what I need, I buy within my budget, and I don't think about the points at all, until I get my quarterly statement.

You're over-thinking this. No-one's out to get you.

Lockheart · 30/04/2021 21:29

You're an adult, you can shop where you like for whatever reason you like.

dementedpixie · 30/04/2021 21:30

I have several loyalty cards. I use the Christmas saver with tesco and get my vouchers in one go just before Christmas. I like getting Clubcard prices as it saves money on my usual shopping. I dont get bombarded with emails

lazyarse123 · 30/04/2021 21:30

I agree. I always think if they can sell stuff cheaper and still make a profit they should do it for everyone. It's like insurance and internet offers to new customers only. Just greedy.

Tibtab · 30/04/2021 21:30

I have a clubcard and don’t get any emails, don’t do my full shop there as I don’t like the quality of the fresh stuff. I buy nappies there because I like the own brand ones.

tsmainsqueeze · 30/04/2021 21:30

I agree , this really annoys me .
I have had tesco card for years , but i think the way they are doing this is fairly new .
I don't use tesco much but if i have gone in without my card i have not bought anything with a 2 price system.
I have now attached a key ring card to my keys , but i still think what they are doing is cheeky and unfair.

KimchiLaLa · 30/04/2021 21:31

I'm happy with it - lots of Aldi price match and cheaper if you have a club card, which I have had for ages.

Wotsnewpussycat · 30/04/2021 21:32

I don't like it either and I shop at tescos and have a club card. I forgot to use my club card at the till and paid over the odds for alcohol at Christmas: added up to £36 more as I only realised when I got home and by chance checked the receipt. Luckily customer services refunded me the difference when I explained the situation but I really Don't agree with it and bet a lot of people forget club cards or don't have one and are paying over the odds.

How is it a cheek? It’s entirely your choice where to shop
Thesearmsofmine · 30/04/2021 21:33

I just think that they should give the discount to everyone. Clubcards have been around forever so if people want one then they will already have one. Also elderly people often don’t like to give out their personal details so it seems a bit unfair on them.

Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2021 21:33

How is it unfair? It doesn't cost anything to have the card. You want the deals you have the Clubcard, if you don't want the deals don't get the Clubcard or shop at other supermarkets.
I don't do my weekly shop at Tesco but will go in to buy things that are a good deal when using the card.

Floralnomad · 30/04/2021 21:34

I’ve had a Tesco Clubcard for years and all I get is coupons through the post , the only emails I get are to tell me when I’ve booked a slot or changed my online shop . I don’t ever get emails about the Clubcard . If you want to shop elsewhere then you are free to do so .
