To not want to shop at Tesco because of this?

Prices gone up generally unless you sign up to their club card. Significantly cheaper (reasonably priced) products if you're a club card holder. I reckon most people just sign up to the club card. I can't help but feel massively inclined to shop elsewhere (aldi) because I hate this kind of marketing. Not sure why it makes me feel like this. Pretty trivial. Maybe I'm far too stubborn. Anyone else feel like this or just me?

This is really ageist . My DMIL was 87 and my DM 77 when they died 5 or 6 years ago, had emails and were more than capable of using a clubcard

radiateforme · 30/04/2021 21:52

Aldi is so cheap I reckon I save that at least every 3/4 months by shopping there 😁 I'm incredibly stubborn about stuff like this. I turn adverts off, hate being pushed to sign up for anything I didn't actively decide I wanted, etc. Doesn't bother me what other people do I just wondered if there was anyone else like me out there. Hello if you're there!

When the Clubcard only prices in my local store started, I was informed about it by a nice gentleman and he offered help if needed to sign up if I wanted. I already had the card so declined his offer, but they were clearly making an effort to help.

mylovelydd · 30/04/2021 21:53

And issues due to Brexit and the additional issues of supply chain and the global pandemic, the massive cost of packaging and the board mills ramping up the price of cardboard by 8-11% this week yes you will find that the price of your weekly shop has sky-rocketed.

radiateforme · 30/04/2021 21:53

@mylovelydd

Don't shop at Tescos then, there's no gun to your head ffs Hmm

Sainsburys's prices are through the roof at the moment and Aldi still isn't paying the right taxes, Asda treats it's staff like shit by forcing them to sign draconian contracts but yeah let's moan about the spam emails...

It's just a conversation you don't need to get so angry.

I agree. My parents are 80, really savvy and are more than capable of sorting out a Clubcard as are their similar age relatives and friends.
Bananabuddy3 · 30/04/2021 21:56

I never had a Tesco near me till I moved - signed up for the Clubcard whilst walking round the aisles when I realised the cost situation. It’s my cheapest option on foot tbh along with Lidl but Lidl can be a bit....not sure how to say it but there’s some things that are just better else where? So I use both.
Tbh signing up to the Clubcard - I have a nectar, a Boots card, I shop online so loads of shops have my email, I’m on mums street, I have FB - one ore card makes no difference.

radiateforme · 30/04/2021 21:56

I do agree also. My grandmothers both would be perfectly ok with this. I just finished facetiming with one 😁

@radiateforme

Angry..right.
You're the one freaking out in case you get spam 😂

lightand · 30/04/2021 21:58

@MWMWMW

It’s discounts in return for data.

Some people will think it’s worth it, some won’t.

🤷🏼‍♀️

Exactly.

I agree with you op.
Tesco is the supermarket I use the most.
I didnt sign up for their Clubcard.
Not sure I am going to either. Started to shop elsewhere.

Ok, grumpy then. Oh yeah I hate spam it does my head in! Not quite freaking out 😉

Yanbu but what does make you unreasonable is coming on here to post about it. Just go shop elsewhere it’s fine.

RampantIvy · 30/04/2021 21:59

My opinion it's a cheek and they will lose customers over it

I doubt it.
Most large chains and supermarkets have loyalty card schemes. Just don't sign up to them. Or if you do just create another email address for them.

I know these are used to harvest data, but in the grand scheme of things I don't really care that they know what brand of coffee I drink.

Honeyroar · 30/04/2021 22:00

I’ve been a club card member for ages (even though it’s always annoyed me!) but I still find this new idea annoying. They tell you at the till “how much you’ve saved with your clubcard”, when really it’s the same price as before, they’ve just hooked up the prices for people without a card.

Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2021 22:00

Oh yeah I hate spam it does my head in!

But there is no Tesco spam. Confused So that argument doesn't stand up.

MrsMaizel · 30/04/2021 22:02

@radiateforme

And sorry if it has been like this for ages. Haven't been in a Tesco since way before lockdown. Was a bit meh to see nappies at £9 for regular customers and £4.50 for club card holders.
The basic level Club Card is free !
Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 30/04/2021 22:02

I swapped to Asda during the first lockdown because it is nearer, cheaper and the staff are nice.
I think Tesco are probably doing the 'offers' as a kind of loss leader. I still shop there occasionally, and have a club card. I never get emails from them.
We use Tesco mobile and it has been good for us.

This is true, kindof. I'm now newly informed that there's no spam (thanks all), however was not when I started this thread.

I've had clubcard forever. Tesco don't spam. I used the points for railcards, hotels, ferries etc.
I have my shopping delivered but get bits from Aldi.
Never buy anything just for points. I have tried every online supermarket and prefer tesco.

Toooutingooos · 30/04/2021 22:05

I completely understand OP. When I first moved to where I live now (near a Tesco) I was shocked at how much more expensive it is than the supermarkets I used to live near (unless you get a Clubcard). I didn’t want to get one out of principal as it seems so cheeky 🤣, but did in the end and sometimes it’s worth it when the purchase is discounted and of course you do get points which you can then spend (makes it more bearable lol)

Moonmelodies · 30/04/2021 22:05

Sign up to Clubcard Plus and you'll get 20% off your entire shop, twice a month.

Mum2jenny · 30/04/2021 22:06

I have loyalty cards for both tesco and morrisons, but I tend to shop at sainsburys more often as it’s nearer me. It’s for convenience as for no other reason though!

LovingBob · 30/04/2021 22:07

I shop at Tesco as it does the best online service and I use my Clubcard points to get free delivery. I also shop at Waitrose and use their card too, neither send me spam.

ToastTriangles · 30/04/2021 22:08

I agree op, I think a lot of people aren't realising that it's £7.99 a month now for the clubcard plus that gets you those low prices on the yellow circles in store. I occasionally shopped there as its not my closest store but almost never do now since they brought in clubcard plus (only twice when I'd forgotten the change!) just feels like I'm not getting good prices and I don't live close enough to be worth £7.99 a month to get them so I shop elsewhere even when I'm in the area anyway now.

LovingBob · 30/04/2021 22:10

I don't pay £7.99 for the lower prices
