To not want to shop at Tesco because of this?

radiateforme · 30/04/2021 21:18

Prices gone up generally unless you sign up to their club card. Significantly cheaper (reasonably priced) products if you're a club card holder. I reckon most people just sign up to the club card. I can't help but feel massively inclined to shop elsewhere (aldi) because I hate this kind of marketing. Not sure why it makes me feel like this. Pretty trivial. Maybe I'm far too stubborn. Anyone else feel like this or just me?

I've been a Tesco shopper for well over 20 years as I used to work practically next door to one and it was great to be able to shop at lunchtime and save myself time in an evening or at weekends. I've had a Clubcard all that time too. I find their loyalty card incredibly useful as I manage weekends away and meals out too from the vouchers. In a few weeks, I am going to buy a railcard with points too. I can't see what's not to like.

@JellyBabiesFan

I have zero social media. I used to but feel mentally so much better for getting rid

You know forums are social media too right?

Yes, I do apologise. I'm a member of this forum. I should have referred to 'social networking'.

YANBU. I don't have a cluv card as I don't want Tesco to know so much about me. I don't want them to know I have sensitive teeth or incontinence issues, or my daughters have started their periods. I don't want them to know I have a cat, or that I need gluten free food. It is none of their business.
I also object to paying more because I don't want them to know so much about me. I shope elsewhere.

Changingchange · 30/04/2021 22:24

Yes! OP, me too. Irritating. I’ve stopped going entirely and I won’t be returning.

Do you not think this may be the reason I deleted it?

@radiateforme

And sorry if it has been like this for ages. Haven't been in a Tesco since way before lockdown. Was a bit meh to see nappies at £9 for regular customers and £4.50 for club card holders.
Actually they are £7 regular price, £4.50 for Clubcard holders (Pampers baby dry size 6 33s) They are £9 in Morrisons and Waitrose and £6.75 in Sainsbury's, so it's not very accurate to say that prices have gone up unless you have a Clubcard, it's just an offer, and it ends on Tuesday anyway, next week there'll be an offer on something else.
JellyBabiesFan · 30/04/2021 22:26

Damn rodents. Why dont they paint the bloody fence properly.

saraclara · 30/04/2021 22:26

@ToastTriangles

I agree op, I think a lot of people aren't realising that it's £7.99 a month now for the clubcard plus that gets you those low prices on the yellow circles in store. I occasionally shopped there as its not my closest store but almost never do now since they brought in clubcard plus (only twice when I'd forgotten the change!) just feels like I'm not getting good prices and I don't live close enough to be worth £7.99 a month to get them so I shop elsewhere even when I'm in the area anyway now.
No, the free Clubcard gets you those prices.
Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2021 22:27

No it's not that. At least you know you are being unreasonable though.

LovingBob · 30/04/2021 22:27

Most shops know what I buy as it is in my purchase history, why should it matter that Tesco know. Most shops that know what I buy send me discounts.

We have a Tesco credit card which is a clubcard and you earn points shopping in Tesco but also point for any other spending you do.

I don't care if Tesco have known for the last 20 years where I shop and what I buy. Plus like a lot of people we have never used the Clubcard points in store, always on the partnership deals.

This has paid for RAC full membership, magazine subscriptions, tickets to Legoland, days out and money off hotels we have stayed in abroad. You get 3 times the value of the Clubcard voucher, so £10 is £30. It used to be 4 times.

I also have a Nectar card for Sainsburys and a Boots loyalty card too. They give me points which means money off stuff I buy.

Information about you is collected all the time from a lot of different places. How many people think before they say hey Alexa or hey google or anything you type, websites you visit, places you use your credit or debit cards, your phone having GPS unless you have a brick.

AfternoonToffee · 30/04/2021 22:30

OP I have a clubcard but I am still with you on this, it is an underhand way of getting people to sign up. Our data is very valuable and they are over enticing people to sign up.

The club card vouchers will go soon no doubt.

Hoolihan · 30/04/2021 22:32

Yes I feel exactly the same! Nothing is on offer now for non-clubcard customers. I don't want a fucking clubcard so I now go to Sainsbury's.

Cherrysoup · 30/04/2021 22:32

I don't sign up to anything as they always find some way or another to email you and I hate spam 😅

So you’d rather spend double on nappies etc? Seems like you’re cutting off your nose....

radiateforme · 30/04/2021 22:33

@saraclara

So you "don't have any social media" - except for Facebook and Mumsnet?

I'm starting to think that this OP is not what it seems.

I don't have Facebook. I did, until recently. Until it made me question whether my race was an issue, a common worry for black women. So I deleted it. I even said in my comment that I used to have it. Yes I also have mumsnet. Fully admit that I thought of mumsnet as an entirely different beast to Facebook/Instagram etc.

No I'll just get some from Asda tomorrow for 25p less than the club card price. I can get some fuel at the same time 😁 I can't believe how upset people on this thread are 😅

@ghostsliveinmyhouse

Why wouldn't you want a Clubcard?

I get money off coupons in the post, and my points get me free meals or days out.

They're not giving you money off for free.

You give them your data, they give you the better prices.

CounsellorTroi · 30/04/2021 22:35

I've got cards for Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose. The latter have quite good offers.

LovingBob · 30/04/2021 22:36

Yep, I have Tesco card, Waitrose card JL card, Lakeland card, nectar card, M&S card, Boots card, all give points or discounts. Tesco Clubcard is very good value, I always take the loyalty card if there is one, though as I have many cards one would question my loyalty.
