To not want to shop at Tesco because of this?

Prices gone up generally unless you sign up to their club card. Significantly cheaper (reasonably priced) products if you're a club card holder. I reckon most people just sign up to the club card. I can't help but feel massively inclined to shop elsewhere (aldi) because I hate this kind of marketing. Not sure why it makes me feel like this. Pretty trivial. Maybe I'm far too stubborn. Anyone else feel like this or just me?

@ToastTriangles

I agree op, I think a lot of people aren't realising that it's £7.99 a month now for the clubcard plus that gets you those low prices on the yellow circles in store. I occasionally shopped there as its not my closest store but almost never do now since they brought in clubcard plus (only twice when I'd forgotten the change!) just feels like I'm not getting good prices and I don't live close enough to be worth £7.99 a month to get them so I shop elsewhere even when I'm in the area anyway now.
You dont need to be paying £7.99 to get the discount

I dont pay anything a month and get the clubcard discounts in store and when i do an online order.

smithyca · 30/04/2021 22:11

The prices you see for clubcard holders are exactly the same as the offers used to be before they changed to clubcard prices. Kettle chips from £1.99 to £1 etc, people just feel as though they are getting a special deal and part of an exclusive club when in reality they are just getting the same offers as before.

Honeyroar · 30/04/2021 22:12

@Moonmelodies

Sign up to Clubcard Plus and you'll get 20% off your entire shop, twice a month.
I just go to Aldi instead nowadays and get 30% off.

What an odd thing to say

ThetaSigma · 30/04/2021 22:12

Doesn’t bother me but that’s probably because I have a Club Card.

Actually a lot of them the 'reduced' price is the same price as other supermarkets. I'm in the minority. I'll stick to my market shop 😁

Thats a myth Aldi dont compare like for like

@radiateforme

Yes but you know you aren't saving much, if anything... If you Google a lot (not a, but a lot) of their club card prices they're the same as the normal prices in other supermarkets. It's total psychological pricing and it clearly works!
I don't use mine for savings, I use it to collect loyalty points which I swap for British Airways airmiles. I've been to Australia in First Class for £800 and to New York in First Class twice for about £500 each time. I'll do pretty much anything for a Clubcard point. I love it.

I regularly say odd things. My colleagues would probably agree. One told me my random commentary on life is endearing. I took it as a compliment. Maybe mumsnet isn't the right place to voice my odd thoughts.

I think they meant because it is generally just a lot cheaper?

Yabu. I'm happy to shop there and get the discount, I've never had spam emails from Tesco. Seems to be popular with friends, I save my club card points and get free days out with the kids, so win-win for me. I dont like Aldi as they don't stock most of the things I like - mostly vegetarian food.

littlepieces · 30/04/2021 22:17

Tesco is utter garbage. Never shop there anyway.

JellyBabiesFan · 30/04/2021 22:19

I wonder how many objecting to giving your email to Tesco are frequenting places like Instagram, Facebook or Youtube. A damn site more advertising on those than Tesco email out.

I'm veggie and shop mainly at Aldi and my local market. I found the biggest saving I've made is cutting out processed food (but that's another story and takes shit loads of willpower). But yeah I can see how it isn't the best for veggies, as I am one! Sainsbury's is amazing for veggie/vegan but a bit out of my price range!

I'm impressed you know where your friends shop I wouldn't have a clue!

@ghostsliveinmyhouse

Why wouldn't you want a Clubcard?

I get money off coupons in the post, and my points get me free meals or days out.

Some people don’t like the big brother aspect of it, tracking you and your shopping habits.

That’s the reason Tesco offer club cards, not to just give you discounts out of the goodness of their heart.

toocold54 · 30/04/2021 22:20

The items I regularly buy have stayed the same price but are then cheaper for Clubcard holders which is no loss to non Clubcard holders.
I haven’t noticed that they have increased in price to non Clubcard holders.

I have zero social media. I used to but feel mentally so much better for getting rid.

I only go to Aldi and then Tesco for a couple of things they sell there. I might buy Carte Dor icecream if it is on offer for £2. I don't have time to go to all the supermarkets so don't care if it's £1.80 at Iceland or whatever. I know the prices if what I normally buy at Aldi and I compare to there and whether it's worth paying a bit more for a product we prefer.

bruffin · 30/04/2021 22:23

Mumsnet is really not great for MH!

Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2021 22:23

I don't care that Tesco know what I buy in Tesco. Confused
