Dd 4 months. Sod all to do at weekends other than go for walks.

We have a baby carrier but DH is obsessed with the pram and insists on putting the poor child in it trudging through thick mud, clambering up mountains and hills and clattering over bumpy gravelly roads.

My nice pram is covered in mud and people look at us like we are batshit.

Is he possibly not comfortable with using the carrier himself? Or would you be carrying the baby?

I’d carry her! I think he is uncomfortable with it as evidenced by constant cries of ‘oh careful mummy!’ but so so SO much easier than getting a pram up a fucking mountain!

Yup. I think it's great you are getting out into nature with the baby. Just tell DH that when the pram gets covered in mud, it is his job to clean the mud off before it gets all over the house (and baby).

Lots of babies love bumpy ground in the pram. We would always aim for gravel or bumpy ground to help DD go to sleep. My other mum friends say the same.

Do they? Can't say I have ever noticed anyone looking at us like we are batshit when out walking with the pram no matter what the terrain. We did have to hose ours down the weekend as it was so filthy (which was a pointless exercise as it is muddy again today), ours is an all terrain buggy though so I would expect it to get muddy.

I bought a second hand off road pushchair (2 actually ).. Kept my nice pram well, nice!!

The number of kids makes precisely no difference. You don’t have to use slings but I do.

Suppose it depends... Our Vennici has big tyres and we have been round beach banks, over fields and round the paths of Hamsterley Forest...

I loved my pram so wanted to use it all the time!
I would be pissed off if he was dragging it through the house but then I would be worried using a carrier up in a mountain in case I fell or slipped so would probably prefer the pram!

I get it OP, that's lunacy! But then I hated the bulk and inconvenience of a pram. I have 2 kids, one hates the along, then the next one came along and loved it. Even with a toddler in tow, life was 100x easier having a baby in a sling, both hands free and no worry about farting about with the prams going in inaccessible places and squeezing through tight spots.

I'd also look at a couple trudging a pram through the mud like they were mad.

I agree with you OP, a sling or carrier is so much more convenient when you’re on terrain your pram isn’t designed for. Just tell him you’re using the sling next time!

THEY are taking the baby out. Not just him. The problem is OP is there and he won’t let her use the sling to carry DC herself. Which is just ridiculous.

I’d be glad he was participating and use it as an excuse to get a second off road three wheeled mountain buggy for muddy trips.

I mean a sling is more convenient I know but maybe he wants a turn holding / pushing his baby. I feel like asking AIBU to say that the baby is not just your decision and the more involved he is now the better it will be down the line.

Well you asked for opinions no need to get annoyed that people don’t agree with you, I can’t stand slings! I’ve used my pram everywhere never been a problem, slings sound more dangerous to me if you slip over!

Don't clean the pram. If he insists on using it, he will have to clean it.
