Just wondered what people's thoughts were following the allegations.
I do think it's awful he's effectively been sacked from all employment before having been found guilty of any allegations.

On the contrary, I think it’s very telling that everyone has dropped him like a stone. They knew what he was like.

Sparklingbrook · 03/02/2021 21:02

How does the vote work on this? What's the AIBU?

GoryGilmore · 03/02/2021 21:03

The likelihood is that all the people making money from him knew perfectly well what he had been up to and that’s why they haven’t hesitated to jump ship, before they’re implicated in any wrong doing too.

Lychee234 · 03/02/2021 21:04

You're right there's not really an AIBU, just more of a discussion.

Happyface120 · 03/02/2021 21:04

Having read his autobiography many years ago, none of the stories emerging surprise me. I imagine it is even less of a surprise to those who have worked with him.

tofuschnitzel · 03/02/2021 21:04

What is awful is his behaviour. He's been talking about abusing women for years and years in interviews, yet people just saw it as edgy and metal. Have you read Evan Rachel Wood's speech to Congress? How you could sympathise with MM after reading that is beyond me.

HeidiHaughton · 03/02/2021 21:06

H3 has no right to earn money.
If he was so concerned about losing contracts he shouldn't have abused women.

Clymene · 03/02/2021 21:07

Don't you mean 'AIBU to wonder how Marilyn Manson has got away with being so abusive for so long?'

Lychee234 · 03/02/2021 21:07

I haven't read it but I will.
Indeed maybe they knew what was going on.
If all true the allegations are horrendous and I hope the victims received support and counselling.

I was a big fan in my yoof. None of it surprised me in the slightest. He’s completely fucked in the head.

FoxyTheFox · 03/02/2021 21:07

She has given various testimonies over the years and has said that the only reason charges were not brought was because the statute of limitations had passed, she then campaigned to support changes to the statute of limitations so that other victims of domestic abuse were not blocked from having their abuser prosecuted like she was.

I think its been an open secret for many years that he is abusive and this is why the industry has cut ties with him so quickly, it reeks of them realising that the game is up as far as Manson is concerned.

Lychee234 · 03/02/2021 21:07

Indeed it's a shame that it didn't come out earlier.

OP posts:
meltedgalaxy · 03/02/2021 21:08

None of it surprised me

Lychee234 · 03/02/2021 21:10

I didn't consider that that they may have been covering up for him but it makes sense now.

OP posts:
Meramera · 03/02/2021 21:10

Usually I would think the same thing OP.
But during his interviews in the past he’s more or less admitted to certain abusive behaviours.

whatswithtodaytoday · 03/02/2021 21:10

I expect they all knew about it but wanted to carry on making money.

I was a fan in the 90s... I guess I just assumed it was all an act? He was hiding in plain sight, like so many abusers.

Lychee234 · 03/02/2021 21:10

I haven't ever read interviews with him but I will certainly have a look.

OP posts:
Washimal · 03/02/2021 21:13

I am so sick people bleating "what happened to innocent until proven guilty?" in relation to this story. He hasn't been thrown in jail, he's just lost a record deal! His label shouldn't need a high court judgement to decide they don't want a business relationship with him anymore.

I'll save my sympathy for the many, many women and girls whose lives are ruined by male violence before I worry about poor Marilyn Manson's loss of earnings.

IdblowJonSnow · 03/02/2021 21:13

Did you think all those abused by him were making it up? Or those who have witnessed many of the alleged incidents?

I'll keep my sympathy for those abused rather than for him.

Ballstothis148 · 03/02/2021 21:14

Oops I pressed YANBU by mistake. Often employers / similar drop when they don’t want to be liable. Not sure if it’s the case here but he has said awful things in the past

Sciurus83 · 03/02/2021 21:15

Also read his autobiography, and not surprised. Disappointed my parents were right when they confiscated the book and banned his music. All those "oh it's all an act" arguments, seems pretty likely he was a monster after all. I believe her, obviously, and the others. I'm sure there will be many more. You heard the stories as a young fan, this is depressingly unsurprising.

colouringindoors · 03/02/2021 21:17

These allegations are no surprise to anyone who's ever had any dealings with him.

Read the accounts of his music technicians (men) if you don't believe these women.

This man is toxic. Imvho.

Sciurus83 · 03/02/2021 21:19

Oh read the interviews OP, and his autobiography. This is in plain sight. Also his band mate Twiggy Ramirez has been accused of rape by his ex Jessicka from the band Jack off Jill. They thought they were gods.

1Morewineplease · 03/02/2021 21:20

It seems, like so many others cases, that there's a queue of people who are lining up against him. And all of them seem to have pretty shocking allegations.
Best leave it to the courts.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 03/02/2021 21:22

I don't think its awful he has been dropped at all.

I think its awful that he has effectively boasted about his behaviour and has been held up as some sort of groundbreaking, edgy hero whos just pushing the boundaries.
