The US as somewhere which is strangely disconnected to the rest of the world and a large percentage of the public having very little idea of the world outside is a big factor in its inability to process (and accept) reality.
I genuinely don't think this is an American problem. It's everywhere.
The fastest growing country for QAnon is Germany, despite them having a very robust anti-extremism and anti-cult education programme for decades.
France is barely vaccinating anyone against covid because the antivaxx disinfo has been so effective.
I think it's a global problem. I think essentially so many people are dissatisfied with the status quo and looking for an alternative reality. Traditional politics and religions aren't cutting it anymore and so new ones are emerging.
