The more arrests they make, it becomes clear that within the unruly mob, there was a core of hardcore militia types who intended to do something horrible to senior lawmakers. One of them was carrying napalm ffs. This could all have ended really badly.

Still catching up and at yesterday teatime posts.

The worrying thing about trumps tweets about not being at the inauguration and his supporters will not be disrespected is the risk that he's whipping up a crowd of people willing to do his bidding.

They want him out of harms way. They want him safe and to await his next instruction. They are willing to put their lives in danger on his behalf.

I know this isn't a new thing in society but we've previously only seen it at this level where it's terrorism or war? With revolutions usually the leader stands and fights with his supporters for what they believe in?

I've been following with fascination but not posted before. I have a few questions so hopefully I'll get some answers.

The mob that broke into the Capitol building were right wing racist militia types judging from all the camp auschwitz t shirts on social media. How does Trump, particularly Ivanka as she & her husband are both Jewish, square that with their conscience. Assuming they've got one of course but Jared's family presumably have lost family during the Holocaust. I don't understand why and how he would want to do business or marry the daughter of a right wing racist. Maybe I'm a bit simple.

The lack of conscience is obvious; you only need to look at the lack of empathy for the 350k (give or take) who have died of COVID. The death toll yesterday was 4,000. Trump has hardly commented on this at all; he's just focused on blaming China.

I genuinely don't think this is an American problem. It's everywhere.

The fastest growing country for QAnon is Germany, despite them having a very robust anti-extremism and anti-cult education programme for decades.
France is barely vaccinating anyone against covid because the antivaxx disinfo has been so effective.

I think it's a global problem. I think essentially so many people are dissatisfied with the status quo and looking for an alternative reality. Traditional politics and religions aren't cutting it anymore and so new ones are emerging.
