@ChazsBrilliantAttitude

Clickety the white far right mob are a tool in my view. I suspect the alt-right “elite” secretly despises them. They need them to force the situation in the way they want it to go but they wouldn’t sit down to dinner with them.
I'm sure you're correct.
BruceAndNosh · 09/01/2021 12:29

How quickly did those last few threads go?

After removing tweets from the @POTUS account, Trump also tweeted from his digital directors account - deleted. and from @TeamTRump - deleted.

this has led to some funny comments

I imagine the subtitle for this thread being The Twat can't Tweet

RedToothBrush · 09/01/2021 12:29

@dreamingbohemian

I hope it's ok to bring over something *@RedToothbrush* posted on the last thread because I think it's so important:

The US as somewhere which is strangely disconnected to the rest of the world and a large percentage of the public having very little idea of the world outside is a big factor in its inability to process (and accept) reality.

I genuinely don't think this is an American problem. It's everywhere.

The fastest growing country for QAnon is Germany, despite them having a very robust anti-extremism and anti-cult education programme for decades.
France is barely vaccinating anyone against covid because the antivaxx disinfo has been so effective.

I think it's a global problem. I think essentially so many people are dissatisfied with the status quo and looking for an alternative reality. Traditional politics and religions aren't cutting it anymore and so new ones are emerging.

I do think thats true, but where its occurred first and was always most likely to happen. Whats happening else where has been driven by it happening in the US (and how twitter etc is globalised).

PMK and also, what if (the) Trump(s) decides to split from the GOP and start his own party? Would there be enough interest?

Igotjelly · 09/01/2021 12:29

I do wonder with the veterans that are involved how much of it is Trump and his idiologies preying on those who have suffered trauma and have mental health issues as a result. It's already well known that post-service mental health care is abysmal.

DGRossetti · 09/01/2021 12:30

BruceAndNosh · 09/01/2021 12:30

@Jux

The way those - high placed and low - are scrambling to say they never liked him anyway is very unedifying.
Ditto people resigning when they only have less than two weeks left on their job. I bet they checked their severance deal first
RedToothBrush · 09/01/2021 12:31

@jsrailton thread is really really interesting and disturbing.

Especially the part about how a large number of the people who first entered the building were ex military and had taken equipment which looks like they had intent to take hostages (possibly to execute). And many knew each other well. These seem to have been some of those first in the building and responsible for breaking in rather than the 'selfie opportuntists'.

Including one of the men (who was also carrying zipties) who has been identified being seen exiting Pelosi's office very early on. (A retired lieutenant colonel - someone of this rank would have been in charge of 300 - 1200 men - on the us officer graded system this is mid level O-5 with O-10 being a general).

I do love the fact that Original ZipTie guy went to the protest with his Mum though!

PerkingFaintly · 09/01/2021 12:32

I also think it's important to remember that the tools we are seeing used for mob-raising are available to many actors.

Although what we're talking about today, ie the attack on the Capitol and on the 2020 US election, involves the far-right, the underlying power to raise and direct mobs at very low cost and from any distance isn't a right-wing problem per se. It's a universal problem.

x-posted with dreamingbohemian & RTB saying much the same.

buttery81 · 09/01/2021 12:35

@dreamingbohemian I agree with your post on the previous page and think social media is the main reason for this!

BruceAndNosh · 09/01/2021 12:39

Sadly there are people who want their 15 minutes of fame and don't realise that A) the 15 minutes might lead to 15 years and B) things can escalate out of their control
But still happy to post pictures of them iside the Capitol for Likes on their Instagram.

I agree that the "professionals" like Lt Brock are much bigger worry than the amateurs taking selfies

RedToothBrush · 09/01/2021 12:40

@cheezy

PMK and also, what if (the) Trump(s) decides to split from the GOP and start his own party? Would there be enough interest?
The problem is the US system. Its two party and the its them or us culture war.

It either splits the republican party or it forces moderate republicans more fearful of the democrats to follow Trump.

The GOP leadership are terrified of this. But this also gives them an incentive to get Trump impeached as disbarred from standing again too.

BlueCatRedCat · 09/01/2021 12:46

Trump is built in the classic mould of a cult leader. I can see him becoming the figurehead of an organisation based on an MLM, idiots paying to get the "secret" knowledge and being required to recruit other followers, while he sits atop the pyramid, raking in the cash. NXIUM's demise has left a void in crazy.

Clicketyclick21 · 09/01/2021 12:46

I think you're correct Chaz, it's just sad that Kuschner won't acknowledge that members of the Jewish community would also be on the MAGA mob hitlist. Seeing those makeshift gallows set up outside was a chilling reminder that old prejudices don't die or go away, they come back with a vengeance.

artisanparsnips · 09/01/2021 12:49

There are suggestions that some of the zip-tie people had connections to Blackwater, hence the pardons last week. Has any of that been stood up or is it just rumour?

TheNorthWestPawsage · 09/01/2021 12:54

Thanks Roussette
Any bets on the thread number when we get to Jan 20th? It would be good (safer) if it stays at #119 but I sort of doubt it will.

I guess one good thing about social media is that agitators like Lt. Col. Brock are finding it more difficult to stay below the radar.

BlueCatRedCat · 09/01/2021 12:55

During Charlottesville in. 2017, the mob were chanting "Jews will not replace us", and one of the ringleaders was interviewed saying he couldn't understand why Ivanka had been allowed to marry Jared. Trump called them fine people. If Javanka had any real feelings of religious faith, or any feelings at all beyond their own feelings of superiority, desire to grab power for themselves, and to maximise their money making opportunities, they would have walked away then. They did not. That tells you all you need to know about them.

Roussette · 09/01/2021 12:58

I, too, am perplexed at how Jared and Ivanka can square all this neo nazi stuff. Ivanka converted to Juadaism, their children are brought up in the jewish faith, yet she can stand next to her father prior to him going out at his 'rally' and stare intently at the crowd, some of whom were wearing nazi signs.

Totally agree BlueRed. They are traitors to their faith that's for sure. they must be despised amongst some

Just posted this elsewhere with a challenge to tell me which ones you haven't ticked ...

ratical.org/ratville/CAH/fasci14chars.html

Political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt recently wrote an article about fascism ("Fascism Anyone?," Free Inquiry, Spring 2003, page 20). Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile), Dr. Britt found they all had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The excerpt is in accordance with the magazine's policy.

The 14 characteristics are:

Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.

Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

Religion and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

Corporate Power is Protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .

Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.

Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections

Is this a surprise? I don't think so

Meanwhile, a current Metro D.C. police officer on the scene yesterday said in a public Facebook post that off-duty police officers and members of the military, who were among the rioters, flashed their badges and I.D. cards as they attempted to overrun the Capitol.
