He's clearly suffering from a severe mental health issue.
It's astounding that he got to a position of power in the first place obviously, but now his delusions are absolutely off the scale.
He genuinely believes that the election results were a conspiracy, very publicly announced that it was a landslide victory in his favour when it so blatantly wasn't.
He obviously has a long history of utter lunacy, but reading his tweets and seeing recent events makes it clear that he's mentally unwell and a danger to himself and others.

Yep. Sadly he still has many other patriot ( cough cough lunatic) fans. Even after recent events.

B33Fr33 · 09/01/2021 10:30

I said that around 4 years ago. Posters were astonishingly rude. He has a big fan base. But yes. He's not well and finally people are taking note that he is a danger to others.

MrsPinkCock · 09/01/2021 10:32

He’s a narcissist on a huge scale but I’m not sure that he’s unwell.

Having spent a lot of time in the states, I do think culturally that Americans are a lot more passionate than we are... even when they’re clearly wrong. I did a lot of nodding and smiling in my time over there!

They won’t impeach him though. Not worth the effort for the time he has left in office.

Really I know no one who thought otherwise even back then - We could not believe how he got in.

For us it was - fuck me, how much do the USA hate Hilary that they would vote in this arsehole

WoolyMamamoth · 09/01/2021 10:33

Is he mentally unwell or just a really shit person who likes a power trip? They are two very different things.

Poor behaviour does not mean someone has a mental illness.

Northofsomewhere · 09/01/2021 10:33

While I think he definitely has some kind of personality disorder I think his current actions (and many in the past) are a combination of mental health problems and never being told no or having to compromise. He wants to hurt the opposition because he lost, essentially I think he's an adult with power throwing a massive tantrum while also being affected by mental health.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 09/01/2021 10:33

He is a narcissist and compulsive liar but by his own admission he has taken all the cognitive tests there are to demonstrate his sanity. He should certainly go to prison if convicted of any of the crimes he is about to be charged with though!

NameofTheWind · 09/01/2021 10:35

Apparently "Malignant Narcissism" is considered a mental health issue and it's been linked to Trump's behaviour - it's being compared to delusional schizophrenia in terms of it's strength and risks.

You'd have thought that in order to become a World Leader you'd have to pass a large number of very significant health checks. That's a lot of power in the hands of a terribly unstable man.

Absolutely; but when is behaviour no longer just poor and actually indicative of an underlying problem?

He needs to be impeached even for the short time left so he loses his security detail, protection and allowances he will get as a past president.

DanielODonkey · 09/01/2021 10:40

Nope. Because then he will not have to deal with the consequences and repercussions of his actions and the actions of those acting on his words.

He needs to be stripped of Potus Status to remove any benefit to him of his awful 4 year power trip. And he needs to be judged and made to justify what he did and not allowed to weasel out.

I hate that man. And getting committed means he has an easy and sympathetic way out. He doesn't deserve it.

His children and his wife need to be taken to account too for their actions either direct actions or in supporting his actions. He hasn't been alone in this. And I don't buy the "poor Melania" stuff either. He was abhorrent when she married him.

Basically Donald doesn't get an easy way out.

Frazzled2207 · 09/01/2021 10:40

He’s a horrible horrible man but I don’t think he’s necessarily mentally ill. Think about his millions of followers- Doubt that they are all mentally ill. His crazy following worries me more than Trump himself. They aren’t going to go away quietly into the night. Nor is Trump himself but at his age there is at least a reasonable chance he won’t be around in 2024.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 09/01/2021 10:41

I've been saying for 4 years bow he clearly has some form of dementia. It's astounding he's been allowed to lead a country

NameofTheWind · 09/01/2021 10:41

This is the DSMs definition of the three personality disorders (Anti-social Personality Disorder, Paranoid Personality Disorder, and Narcissistic Personality Disorder) that make up Malignant Narcissism.

He's so clearly unfit for office and "not right" I find it hard to hold him accountable for his behaviour. Those around him who toady up to him, who feed his delusions, who give him power an authority- I judge them very harshly indeed.

NameofTheWind · 09/01/2021 10:44

Yes - doesn't he get a lifetime salary for being a former President?

Mapletreelane · 09/01/2021 10:47

It's a known "thing" that when men are in powerful roles that it goes to their heads (Think old gross MPS explicitly texting young women ). That combined with a narcissistic personality, plus the mandate that 74 million people have given him, and that all his close his advisors are family have created this situation.

I genuinely am interested in how US citizens feel about their political system. It also seems to me, an outsider, that to become POTUS you need access to gazillions of dollars. Happy to be educated in this.

PicsInRed · 09/01/2021 10:53

He's not mentally ill, but he has become a danger to the Republic and I think he does need to be removed in order that he is unable to run for office again. Otherwise, he'll create disorder every 4 years. Section 25 would seem to be faster than impeachment and Pence does seem to be on board with restraining Trump who knew Pence would be the establishment man to save us all and that he was the ideal choice of VP after all?!

The one weakness is that it seems section 25 precludes only the future holding of FEDERAL office? Whilst this would be useful to stabilise matters at a national level, Trump has indicated an intention to run for Governor of Georgia. As we now know, when he says something like that he does mean it and he doesn't get bored - with the media and the attention, anyway.

peak2021 · 09/01/2021 10:56

Section 25 is the only chance of Donald Trump not serving out the remaining days. I think given resignations that is now not going to happen, as in a sense two fewer people to support the move in cabinet.

I hope Twitter sticks with the ban for good, to reduce his chance of getting support to run again.

PicsInRed · 09/01/2021 10:56

*25th amendment, that is

TeenyTinyDustinHoffman · 09/01/2021 10:58

Personality disorder? Almost certainly.
Danger to his country? Absolutely.

But I think he's got a lot more control over his actions than some people are suggesting.

PicsInRed · 09/01/2021 11:00

They also need to hurry, as reportedly Trump can remove Pence before the 25th is invoked - but not after.

RandomMess · 09/01/2021 11:04

He needs to be removed in a way so that he cannot run again nor hold a position to support another president ie his son!!

grafittiartist · 09/01/2021 11:06

He has had a whole life time of people saying yes to him.
Once you stop hearing criticism you think you can do anything.

RandomMess · 09/01/2021 11:06

My psychologist said he displays as a psychopath although he couldn't obviously diagnose based on what he said/did alone. This was 3-4 years ago.
