Hi all, partner and I have disagreed when the tree should come down.

Growing up in his house it always come down in Jan.

In our house it was often Boxing Day.

But in more recent years I’ve wanted to keep the tree up until at least New Year’s Day but partner wants it down ASAP.

So aibu to keep the tree up for another week?

Technically it doesn’t have to be down til the 12th night?

I just worry I’ll feel so gloomy taking the tree down after such a poop year 😫

YANBU. It comes down on New Year’s Day in our house. But the fairy lights will be staying up longer this year.

OnceUponAnEnzyme · 27/12/2020 11:46

The day after New Years Day, unless the weekend falls awkwardly. This year: Sat 2nd Jan.

Jalapinot · 27/12/2020 11:46

Mine came down this morning.

SFHJ · 27/12/2020 11:47

Mine would be coming down today but I have an appointment. It will either come down late tonight or early tomorrow morning.

BashfulClam · 27/12/2020 11:48

12th night, I hate the darkness from now until mid February and could Sit and cry at the thought.

spanieleyes · 27/12/2020 11:48

Twelfth Night.

lockitdown · 27/12/2020 11:49

new years day here

I would love to get rid now though.

Northernsoullover · 27/12/2020 11:50

New Years Day. My mum used to leave it up until 12th night and it depressed me knowing that Christmas was almost a year away. Mine doesn't go up until the 20th though. It was effort to put it up at all this year.

AnyOldPrion · 27/12/2020 11:50

Twelfth night, probably.

Floralnomad · 27/12/2020 11:50

Normally mine comes down between Christmas and New Year but this year it’s staying up 2nd Jan .

Sojo88 · 27/12/2020 11:51

Twelfth Night too.

AvoidingRealHumans · 27/12/2020 11:52

Usually 2nd or 3rd January, this year it will be the 2nd. This week for me is when I really relax after all the prep and love having the tree twinkling while I watch crap on tv and eat junk.
Each to their own but I would feel so down tearing it all down on boxing day.

Bookworming · 27/12/2020 11:52

1st January

RaininSummer · 27/12/2020 11:53

Next weekend before back to work. Too much work to only have it up for 2 weeks

Butterbeeeen · 27/12/2020 11:53

Normally 1st jan but ours came down this morning as it was a real tree and had started to smell of vomit. Other decs are still up though as is dd tree in her room.

latheritup · 27/12/2020 11:53

Last night once the baby was in bed. It feels so nice to have the living room back to normal!

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 27/12/2020 11:54

I'm going to take all the Christmas stuff down today or tomorrow, but I'll leave the fairy lights and candles to try to maintain the cosy feeling. When I was a child we would put the tree up on the last day of term and leave it up until 6th January, but now I have my own kids I put the tree up in the first weekend of December and I'm sick of the sight of it by now. Wintery candles can stay though.

Poptart4 · 27/12/2020 11:54

New years day here.

DressingGownofDoom · 27/12/2020 11:58

Probably Friday or Saturday. I've taken mine down before NYE before and it was a bit weird drinking Prosecco and watching the celebrations but with no decorations up.

diversity101 · 27/12/2020 11:58

First weekend in January for us. I would hate to go to all that effort and not get to enjoy it for very long.

CounsellorTroi · 27/12/2020 11:58

Twelfth Night. We traditionally put it up on the day of the Strictly final, that’s when Christmas officially starts for us.

Nonamesavail · 27/12/2020 11:59

Gone here already. Yule tree is still up though

cleanasawhistle · 27/12/2020 12:00

Mine is always 2nd Jan.To me that is when Christmas is over with.
Whole house will get cleaned and back to normal.

Similar (today)day after Boxing Day all cards down ,all gifts put away and whole house cleaned.

Thats just me though, cant cope with clutter.

devildeepbluesea · 27/12/2020 12:00

Usually it'd be down Boxing Day or today, but I'm going to keep it up til NYD this year. Feels nice to have the bright lights.

Kljnmw3459 · 27/12/2020 12:01

Usually 2nd Jan or thereabouts. It's very much part of NYE decoration.
