Hi all, partner and I have disagreed when the tree should come down.

Growing up in his house it always come down in Jan.

In our house it was often Boxing Day.

But in more recent years I’ve wanted to keep the tree up until at least New Year’s Day but partner wants it down ASAP.

So aibu to keep the tree up for another week?

Technically it doesn’t have to be down til the 12th night?

I just worry I’ll feel so gloomy taking the tree down after such a poop year 😫

January 2nd. Daughter's birthday is the 4th so take tree down to put birthday stuff up.

LooneyLovefood · 27/12/2020 16:46

Ours came down today! With a 2 year old DS and two cats who were all desperate to be in the tree at all times, I'm surprised it's lasted as long to be honest. We'd normally take it down somewhere between the 28th Dec and the 1st January. DS has so many toys this year that there just wasn't room for the tree and all the new things. My living room feels great today now - though I do feel a little sad that Christmas is over given that due to restrictions this year it never really got going in some ways.

Marshmallow91 · 27/12/2020 16:50

For some countries its March!

For me, everything was down and put away boxing day before dinner. Couldn't stand the bloody sight of it any longer, and the living room was a glittery mess!

Tomorrow but if I had had my way it would have been yesterday.

Londonmummy66 · 27/12/2020 19:29

6th Jan. One year the local Council tried to do its tree collection on 3rd Jan. No one on our street had taken theirs down so they had to come back and collect them the following week.

partyatthepalace · 27/12/2020 19:42

Last non working day before 12th day - so next Sunday.

Absolutely amazed to hear of people talking it down before New Year - I had no idea people did that.

Grapewrath · 27/12/2020 19:44

Mine come down today. Im glad to get Christmas done and dusted and routine back to normal
We are very much a candles and fairy lights house all year round though so it’s never stark

MeringueCloud · 27/12/2020 19:49

How can you be "sick at the sight of it"? Do you change all furniture after a couple of weeks? Wink

I will take mine down when Christmas is officially over.

Grapewrath · 27/12/2020 19:53

Also I didn’t put them up early and don’t believe in the Christmas story so the twelfth night doesn’t have any meaning to me

DrCoconut · 27/12/2020 20:46

I get mildly annoyed that the radio stations started playing Christmas songs in November and have stopped already when the Christmas period has only just started. Luckily Alexa understands. Our tree has been up a week today and will stay up until 3 kings day.

Womencanlift · 27/12/2020 20:49

The Sunday before going back to work so depends what date that falls. This year it will be the 3rd. I have had mine up since end of November this year and it still feels too early to take it down this weekend

Chimeraforce · 27/12/2020 20:49

When it goes bald.

DrunkenKoala · 27/12/2020 20:54

NYD or just after. DD’s birthday is the first week of Jan and I like it down by then.

inappropriateraspberry · 27/12/2020 20:56

It all comes down before school starts. This year we'll take it down next weekend. Depends when Christmas and new year fall.

inappropriateraspberry · 27/12/2020 20:57

I think it also depends how much room the tree takes up or how big the room is! If it's I the way a bit, I can imagine it's good to get it down earlier and out of the way, especially with lots of new toys etc to find space for!

whoamongstus · 27/12/2020 21:15

Tomorrow for us, it's getting on my nerves now because our living room is quite small.

Flaunch · 27/12/2020 21:27

I’d have usually taken it down today but it’s still looking lovely so I’m going to leave it up a few more days. May take it down on Thursday or Friday then get the house clean again before we go back to work 😬

PandemicPavolova · 27/12/2020 21:29

When I want too, when feel like the fresh start is due and that could be shortly in January or once it was February and looking gloriously miss havishimmy

MervGriffinShow · 27/12/2020 21:34

12th night, as long as we're home.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/12/2020 21:34

Twelfth night here, but we put it up close to Christmas Day usually around the 23rd or even Christmas Eve .

Midnightstar76 · 27/12/2020 21:36

Taking mine down tomorrow

RabbityMcRabbit · 27/12/2020 21:38

2nd February which is Candle as. My Mum is from Northern Germany and there Christmas trees used to come down then. I always thínk it's nice to still have the tree during the cold wet and dark January nights

Daphnise · 27/12/2020 21:41
