Hi all, partner and I have disagreed when the tree should come down.

Growing up in his house it always come down in Jan.

In our house it was often Boxing Day.

But in more recent years I’ve wanted to keep the tree up until at least New Year’s Day but partner wants it down ASAP.

So aibu to keep the tree up for another week?

Technically it doesn’t have to be down til the 12th night?

I just worry I’ll feel so gloomy taking the tree down after such a poop year 😫

Epiphany

I have a real tree so if it lasts, Epiphany. I had a real wreath one year that was still going strong, so I left some decorations up until Candlemas.

Twelfth Night, and not before.

SkiingIsHeaven · 29/12/2020 19:13

Unfortunately we had to take ours down today as it was dry and drooping and the decorations were falling off and smashing. Very sad to take it down.

Epiphany for us too.
We are an Anglo-Spanish family so we celebrate 12th Night as well as Christmas Day, and decorations come down on 6th Jan. I 'm a bit dubious about this year's tree though - it is shedding needles quite profusely already so it might not last!

New Year's Day. We always get a real tree and usually do so mid-December. I like to have it up still on New Year's Eve but after that it's definitely time to take it down. 2.5 weeks is plenty for a real tree.

I get the impression that a lot of people (or just mumsnetters?!) put up their tree at the beginning of December and take it down on Boxing Day, I don't really see the logic in that myself but it seems quite common.

Traditionally, of course, the tree would be up from 24th December to 6th January, wouldn't it? The 12 days of Christmas.

Today, glad to see the back of it!

2nd January.

New Year's Day of the day after if we are busy.

WeeDangerousSpike · 29/12/2020 19:52

12th night.

Fake tree, so new year's day for us. Normally I'm itching to get it down and get tidy, but not in such a rush this year, as its the only christmassy thing we've got in tier 4.

Quornflakegirl · 29/12/2020 20:02

Mines in the loft already.

I could say the same with your logic of taking it down on New Years Day. That is still a holiday and in our house we are too busy enjoying New Years Day dinner (better than Christmas dinner in my opinion) to worry about taking the tree down.
