Hi all, partner and I have disagreed when the tree should come down.

Growing up in his house it always come down in Jan.

In our house it was often Boxing Day.

But in more recent years I’ve wanted to keep the tree up until at least New Year’s Day but partner wants it down ASAP.

So aibu to keep the tree up for another week?

Technically it doesn’t have to be down til the 12th night?

I just worry I’ll feel so gloomy taking the tree down after such a poop year 😫

Ours usually comes down the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve, it's definitely down before New Year's Day!

Lolly86 · 27/12/2020 13:00

It's going today! Love it for Christmas but the day after the boxing day I love the clear upGrin

Farcry66 · 27/12/2020 13:00

Mine always comes down the first weekend in Jan. Once schools go back I'm knackered and too busy at the weekend, so decs down and big clean ready to go back to school on the 4th. I'm not expecting next term to be easy!

AliceMadHatter · 27/12/2020 13:03

I will take ours down next Sunday. We are all off till the New Year so to us it's still Christmas. I'm back to work on the Monday so will be cleaning and getting ready for work on the Sunday.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 27/12/2020 13:04

I used to take it all down Boxing Day when I was dealing with poor mental health and getting through Xmas was a struggle. This year I can see why people want to keep theirs up. We've had a really good time and I've enjoyed having the decorations up.
I do like to start the new year with a nice tidy home though so probably new years eve I'll pack everything away.

PatchworkElmer · 27/12/2020 13:08

Today. Need the space for DS’s toys from Christmas 😬

Umbongi · 27/12/2020 13:09

I think typically it would be 1st Jan in my house growing up.

But now I'm honestly ready for it to come down once the fucking presents have been opened on Christmas day. I hate it, the bloody pine needles everywhere 😤

DappledThings · 27/12/2020 13:12

6th January. No other day is acceptable. I would refuse to put one up at all if it was going to come down early.

Today is the 3rd day of Christmas with 9 to go. There is no argument here!

snugglepuff · 27/12/2020 13:13

I'll usually take ours down by New Year's Day at the latest. My mum is old school and waits until 6th jan! I'm ready for it to come down now tbh!

Lookslikerainted · 27/12/2020 13:14

This is my favourite part the days between Xmas and New Years. We keep the tree until jan 1st!

caperplips · 27/12/2020 13:14

We'll have ours up till 5 Jan. Usually try to keep them up till 12th night but back to
School/ work on 6th so might tackle them on the 5th
I never ever understand people taking everything down on 26th - in fact one person was on here on Christmas night saying they were packing away the decorations. I figured that had to be a wind up. So joyless otherwise!
We don't put ours up till around the 18th though we caved a week early this year due to pressue from the teen (who then got bored doing it after half an hour!)

Plsv87 · 27/12/2020 13:15

Pre-kids it was Boxing day or the day after. More recently around 2nd Jan, or the day before we go back to work. Not sure this year, when the mood takes me. Possibly 2nd or 3rd Jan but Might leave a little longer.

DappledThings · 27/12/2020 13:15

All the people who hate the clutter so much they are pulling it down on Boxing Day - why put it up in the first place if it irritates you so much?

DariaMorgendorffer · 27/12/2020 13:15

Usually goes up around the 20th, and down first week January. Love having it twinkling for NYE & even more so for a lazy day on NYD.

AlwaysLatte · 27/12/2020 13:18

I always used to want to take it down between Christmas and new year, but now the children like it up as long as possible so we usually take it down on 2nd Jan. but having put it up earlier on their request too it's usually haemorrhaging needles by the time we manage to get it onto the bonfire.

maddiemookins16mum · 27/12/2020 13:32

This Wed or Thursday.

81Byerley · 27/12/2020 13:34

6th January

Heartlantern2 · 27/12/2020 13:36

3rd jan, a few days before the kids start school again.

Chloemol · 27/12/2020 13:39

New Year’s Day

Amanduh · 27/12/2020 13:40

After New Years is over, usually twelfth night but could be any day. Need the decs up looking nice for New Years Day buffet and games celebrations with the family and for bank holiday dinner tomorrow too!

Lastbonestanding · 27/12/2020 13:42

Ours is down. I wanted it down in Christmas day night but mañana to leave it until the morning after boxing day. I hate the sight of a Christmas tree after Christmas.

speakout · 27/12/2020 13:45

Quite soon, this week sometime.

We have 3 trees though!! OH is back to work on the 2nd Jan, and it's quite a lot of work to box everything up, ladders take it up to the loft. So has to be done before he starts work again.

triceratops12 · 27/12/2020 13:45

Boxing Day

Alternista · 27/12/2020 13:46

Usually NYD here.
I’ve done a big tidy and clean and hoover this morning which has made things look nice and less overwhelming.

bruffin · 27/12/2020 13:48

Twelthnihht but our tree has only been up a week
