Hi all, partner and I have disagreed when the tree should come down.

Growing up in his house it always come down in Jan.

In our house it was often Boxing Day.

But in more recent years I’ve wanted to keep the tree up until at least New Year’s Day but partner wants it down ASAP.

So aibu to keep the tree up for another week?

Technically it doesn’t have to be down til the 12th night?

I just worry I’ll feel so gloomy taking the tree down after such a poop year 😫

The day after New Year’s Day

ZebraSpotts · 27/12/2020 12:15

Well.....i never did put a tree up this year. Decorations and lights were plenty and looked amazing without the effort and faff of unpacking and fluffing up massive tree this year. Will be able to clear most of it away very quickly too
(I may, quite possibly never get tree out again at this rate)

Pipandmum · 27/12/2020 12:17

Sometimes til Jan 6 but after New Years I'm pretty fed up with it, so earlier this year.

bridgetreilly · 27/12/2020 12:19

Jan 5th.

If you’re taking it down on Boxing Day, you’re putting it up too early, imo.

Hohomerryxmas · 27/12/2020 12:21

For the first year ever we're waiting until the 12th night. I start taking down the small decorations from today like the ornaments, plush teddies but the tree will stay up until the 6th.

Bluntness100 · 27/12/2020 12:22

The fifth of JAN is twelfth night, I will likely takes ours down on the second.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 27/12/2020 12:23

Twelfth Night.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 27/12/2020 12:25

Mine usually comes down on the 2nd so it's still up at New Year.

OhToBeASeahorse · 27/12/2020 12:29

The weekend just before twelfth night. I try to cook a lovely meal and then sit down and write down some things to look forward to - might be trickier this year!

Only ever heard of people taking them down before NY on MN. To me Jan and Feb are the most depressing months of the year - I like to make them feel as short as possible!

Terracottasaur · 27/12/2020 12:29

New Year’s Day / 2nd January normally

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 27/12/2020 12:30

It’s only the tree, window decorations and outdoor windows though. All other Christmas decorations have already been taken down. I might actually take the tree down on the 1st of January this year, just because I’d like a new start for the new year. But if you want to leave yours up for a bit longer, do it!

One year we kept the (small) tree up til at least mid Jan - all the decorations were taken off and just the lights left on it. We just didn’t feel like taking it down yet, and it did make a big difference to the January dreariness.

Nottherealslimshady · 27/12/2020 12:32

Usually by Easter. I really cba with the faff.

Coasterfan · 27/12/2020 12:32

The day before going back to work and school usually so this year will be next Sunday even if we don’t go back to school!

halcyondays · 27/12/2020 12:32

Never before Twelfth Night.

Dowermouse · 27/12/2020 12:35

King's Day here. Useful as it's after the kids are back in nursery /school and I can dispatch it without any helping hands of complaing that it's going.
I like keeping the twinkly lights going as long as possible to get though the darkness of winter.

longhaulstress · 27/12/2020 12:36

Usually around January 2nd but I'm keeping them up till the 6th this year as they've really cheered me up this year and January is going to be a crap month.

Dearmaria · 27/12/2020 12:36

Mine came down first thing boxing day morning. But I do have autistic children who find the festive period very overwhelming so when christmas is done, it's done.

I think though that people should put them up as early as you want and take them down as late as you want, or equally put them up as late as you want and take down as early as you want! Do what makes you happy.

Eminybob · 27/12/2020 12:52

I’d usually keep it up until the new year, but the tree is looking half dead (my fault for not watering it enough) and I’m desperate to take all the cards down and chuck all the clutter back in the loft.
I think it’s because we have so many more toys this year now ds2 is 2 and it’s all so overwhelming. I have no idea where anything is going to live and I feel that taking the tree and decs down will give me a bit of order back.

Gonkytonk · 27/12/2020 12:53

Ours came down this morning.

NightOwl19 · 27/12/2020 12:54

Ours will be down tomorrow, I can't cope with the clutter and the mess anymore

Yubaba · 27/12/2020 12:55

I always take ours down on New Year’s Eve, I like to start the new year with a clean tidy house.
My mum always kept hers up till twelfth night but these days she takes it down on Boxing Day or the day after.

nokidshere · 27/12/2020 12:56

I take ours down on New Years Day

saoirse31 · 27/12/2020 12:57

6th January!

Oooohbehave · 27/12/2020 12:57

The weekend before the kids go back to school. 2nd January this year. Once I'm back at work and DC back at school I want it gone.

Changi · 27/12/2020 12:59

When Christmas is over.
