Hi all, partner and I have disagreed when the tree should come down.

Growing up in his house it always come down in Jan.

In our house it was often Boxing Day.

But in more recent years I’ve wanted to keep the tree up until at least New Year’s Day but partner wants it down ASAP.

So aibu to keep the tree up for another week?

Technically it doesn’t have to be down til the 12th night?

I just worry I’ll feel so gloomy taking the tree down after such a poop year 😫

I'll be taking mine down tomorrow. Nothing to do with putting the tree up early and wanting it down, for me Christmas is over after boxing day 🤷‍♀️

MikeFromSpaced · 27/12/2020 22:42

2nd Jan.

'Absolutely amazed to hear of people talking it down before New Year - I had no idea people did that.'

Oh come on. Really?

A lot of people in rl I know take theirs down before new year. Ive took mine down before new years eve most years.

I think it's true what a pp said about class. The higher the class equals tree up later..tree down later.

Expressing amazement over peoples tree choices and what they do with them is ridiculous.

I think another person said dont these people realise that christmas has only just started. Well yes. Yes I'm aware of the religious element...but I really dont care. I'm not religious.

I go back to work tomorrow. I dont have the luxury of sitting on my arse until my kids go back to school and for me christmas is over.

Everyone does things differently :)

Yes, really. I knew some people took it down a bit early but I've really never known anyone do it before NYE. Been to many a friend's house over new year for years and never seen one with decorations already down. It is genuinely bizarre to me.

Twelfth Night

JamSarnie · 29/12/2020 16:24

One of mine has gone today which was in a room we don't use very often. The other one will be taken down on Sunday because once I am back at work the Christmas period is definitely finished.

Twelfth night

But it's surely practical for many familes to take it down before 12 night?

Many parents are back at work- and all that entails, back to the usual chores, running around- I want all the christmas tree fuss away before work starts again.

LovingCountryLife · 29/12/2020 17:12

Took ours down today, always love it when it’s up but the novelty had worn off as it usually does a couple of days after Boxing Day. I always have fairy lights all over the house whatever the time of year so the living room is still very cosy. I just like things to get back to ‘normal’ after Christmas is over.

MirandaMarple · 29/12/2020 17:13

Probably would 2nd Jan. I like to spend New Year's Eve and day still feeling festive.

dementedpixie · 29/12/2020 17:14

I've taken my tree down today to free up space in the living room. I've left my window lights and icicles up though

Bronzino · 29/12/2020 17:16

Mine came down this morning. Normally it’s down either Boxing Day or the 27th

MistyGreenAndBlue · 29/12/2020 17:19

What kind of ugly Christmas decorations do people have up that they characterize them as "clutter"? I love mine.
I'll be taking mine down on the 5th as usual. I'll be sorry it's over.
I too keep some fairy lights and candles out all year round though.

ellaballoo · 29/12/2020 17:28

I took my trees down on Sunday but have plenty of candles , fairy lights and sparkle that I will keep up until 12th night .

DecemberDiana · 29/12/2020 17:29

It was up early this year so I don't think we'll make it to 12th Night.
Probably Sunday.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/12/2020 17:30

6th

Bluesername · 29/12/2020 17:32

12th Night here. Without being too strict, I like the '12 days of Christmas' tradition and the idea of Advent being preparation and waiting rather than also being part of Christmas. In any case I wouldn't put the tree up long before Christmas because I'd have had enough of it by now Grin

PuppyMonkey · 29/12/2020 17:35

Mine came down today, but tbf they were up at least a week earlier than usual this year. Was going to leave them there till after new year but as we aren’t doing anything noteworthy on New Years, there doesn’t seem much point.

DP happened to be going into attic for something else and he took down the big box where we store our Decs while he was there and before I knew it I was dismantling everything. Quite enjoyed myself.Xmas Grin

12th night but it only goes up 1-2 weeks before xmas. I suspect those keenest to remove their festive decorations are the same people desperate to put them up in November. To me the decorations are for Hogmanay too. As an atheist the celebrations begin with the solstice and end on 12th night

june2007 · 29/12/2020 17:38

12 night.

crivit · 29/12/2020 18:29

Imbolc, so about 5 more weeks to go! Hadn't realised I was so posh 🧐🎄

LenaBlack · 29/12/2020 18:34

6th of January, Three Kings Day..traditional date in my very Catholic country of origin

TurquoiseDragon · 29/12/2020 18:51

Mine will come down this weekend, Saturday or Sunday (depending on events/weather, etc). I'm "back in office" from Monday, and I like things to be cleared away by the time I'm back working again.

Moomin12345 · 29/12/2020 18:57

CoronaIsWatching · 29/12/2020 18:59
