To think Christmas bedding is a waste.

Aibu to think Christmas bedding is a waste of money and space? Let's face it its only going to be on for a few weeks max each each.
Dc want some and tbh I'm tempted given the shitty covid year we have had, tempted to go full on Santa's Grotto but the other bit of me thinks.... More clutter.... More money that could go on better things.... But what's better than sharing a bit of joy with the kids in a fairly joyless year Confused

It's just like any other Christmas decorations, surely?

If you can afford it and it makes your family happy, why not?

Sparklingbrook · 24/11/2020 14:08

We have perfectly good all year round bed linen. Maybe if I had a preschooler I might be tempted but certainly not for older children and definitely not for adults.

Angeldust747 · 24/11/2020 14:09

Ours gets used for a month each year (I wash and dry and put back on the same day) so gets a fair amount of use, and then it's put away for next year. The bedding will last for years as it's not on year round and adds a bit of Christmas cheer. If they would enjoy it, then why not?

Excited101 · 24/11/2020 14:09

It’s just a Christmas decoration, no obligation either way but don’t overthink it.

CuteOrangeElephant · 24/11/2020 14:09

I feel the same OP. I will admit to having a Christmas pyjamas that I wear year round. Couldn't resist the sales last year Grin.

If I had all the money and storage space in the world I would love some Villeroy and Boch Toys delight Christmas plates. But because I don't I'll keep on dreaming.

Iamblossom · 24/11/2020 14:09

I have two xmas duvets each for my kids' beds - I bought them 10 years ago and they get used every December.

I get joy from them. My kids are now "meh" but indulge me. If it gives you joy why WOULD'NT you?

GreyishDays · 24/11/2020 14:11

If you get wintery rather than Christmassy then you could use it in January and February too.

Depends if you have the storage space I think.

PenguinErector · 24/11/2020 14:12

We have Christmas bedding that goes on for the 12 days of Christmas (well sort of, School holidays anyway). Each set cost under £12 and has been in use for 3 years so far.

I love mine too 😁

Sparklingbrook · 24/11/2020 14:13

I have had a Google and there are some shockers out there but there's a reasonably ok M&S one with ice skating penguins which isn't too in your face.

MsVestibule · 24/11/2020 14:13

If they're on the beds for a month a year (and you use them every year for years) it means your normal bedding would last 12% longer than usual, so not really a waste of money. They can be stored in the loft with the rest of the decorations, so not taking up too much space.

If you can afford it and the children really want it, go for it!

QueenOfPain · 24/11/2020 14:13

It’s all that cheap sweaty polyester stuff as well, couldn’t think of anything worse, tbh Envy

RozHuntleysStump · 24/11/2020 14:14

Maybe have special’winter’ bedding instead.

formerbabe · 24/11/2020 14:16

I just can't be arsed with all this stuff

lazylinguist · 24/11/2020 14:17

Well I wouldn't buy it, but I don't see how it's any more of a waste than Christmas decorations... or bikinis you only wear on holiday, or really thick jumpers it's rarely cold enough to wear etc etc. At least the bedding can be kept and used for years and years. As for a wate of space - well it depends if you're lacking space!

vanillandhoney · 24/11/2020 14:19

We have Christmas bedding. Yes, it only gets used for a month or so but the same goes for all the other Christmas decorations.

TheDogsMother · 24/11/2020 14:20

I think I may have been living under a stone as I didn't even know Christmas bedding was a thing Confused

Nacreous · 24/11/2020 14:20

I don't have it, but I don't really see how it's much different from any other Christmas decorations. Put it in a vacuum bag and put it in the loft with the other decorations surely?

I think it's been a pretty miserable year and if you can afford it and it would make people happy then it's not really any more wasteful than anything else!

Sparklingbrook · 24/11/2020 14:20

I do have a single Christmas settee cushion I bring out every year. Late MIL bought it for DC1 when he was a baby. I did wonder about adding a few more but I had a word with myself about having a loft full of cushions for 11 1/2 months each year.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 24/11/2020 14:21

I agonise over this every year when I see duvet sets in the shops 😂 I would really like Christmas bedding but I can't bring myself to buy bedding that won't be used very much. I should just do it really. The longer I leave it the fewer uses I'll get...

You mean you aren't secretly longing to buy this? Grin

melisande99 · 24/11/2020 14:23

Had no idea this was a thing.

LuckyAmy1986 · 24/11/2020 14:24

I think it’s fine as long as you don’t buy new every year and keep reusing the same one! I don’t personally have any but am always tempted!

You don't need a loft full of cushions.

You just put an ordinary cushion cover on for the rest of the year.

Sparklingbrook · 24/11/2020 14:27

Or buy Christmas cushion covers I guess. DH would be Hmm but I could add one every couple of days. Grin
