Aibu to think Christmas bedding is a waste of money and space? Let's face it its only going to be on for a few weeks max each each.
Dc want some and tbh I'm tempted given the shitty covid year we have had, tempted to go full on Santa's Grotto but the other bit of me thinks.... More clutter.... More money that could go on better things.... But what's better than sharing a bit of joy with the kids in a fairly joyless year Confused

What about winter themed bedding rather than specifically Christmas. You could probably use it til end of Feb then.

Sparklingbrook · 24/11/2020 14:50

I really hate brushed cotton, I am sure I had it as a child and vowed to never have it again.

The bedding we have matches the bedrooms, Christmas bedding would spoil the aesthetic. TBF though Christmas anything anywhere does that I suppose. Grin

Meraas · 24/11/2020 14:52

I have reindeer pattern fleece bedding which we use between Nov-March. Don't have the space to justify non-reindeer bedding just for December. I don't mind the reindeer, but yes, if I had to look at Santa or snowmen for 4 months I would get a headache.

Meraas · 24/11/2020 14:53

Sorry meant flannel not fleece!

UnicornPug · 24/11/2020 14:55

My husband said I couldn’t buy Christmas bedding about 6 years ago. I bought it anyway, put it on our bed and said nothing. He did not comment for over 3 weeks. This year, he was the one rooting about in the loft to find it and it’s on the bed already. Grin The kids have it too and none of it is tasteful. It’s full on, Christmas agogo nonsense and we all love it. Different strokes!

kirktonhouse · 24/11/2020 14:56

I've just bought fantastically over the top Christmas bedding for all and even got a shower curtain too! We're all going to be spending more time at home, longer in bed (earlier nights) and just why the hell not.

Christmas is tacky, all of it, especially the 'scandi', 'tasteful' or 'fashionable' nonsense, we all enjoy a large dose of happy multicoloured wonderful christmasness - crack open a snowball and pin up your tinsel.

Actually not the snowball Envy (not envy)

lyralalala · 24/11/2020 14:57

The kids have Christmas bedding that goes on December first, it's part of the fun after opening the first day of their advent calendar. They've had them for years. They go away with the Christmas decorations in early January.

I have Christmas cushion covers that come out when the tree goes up. They just go in the decoration boxes after Christmas.

They're no more wasteful than any other decorations.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 24/11/2020 14:58

I also have a Christmas shower curtain that I bought 3 years ago

To think Christmas bedding is a waste.
TatianaBis · 24/11/2020 14:59

It’s a hell no from me.

I barely tolerate the current fad for Christmas jumpers. In my day they were just a joke.

I do have a Christmas tea towel and table cloth though.

speakout · 24/11/2020 15:01

We compromise and have winter bedding- snowflakes and polar bears etc. Rather than santa or very specific christmas stuff.
So it means they get used for several months, and don't look out of place in February.

TatianaBis · 24/11/2020 15:02

Christmas is tacky, all of it

Don’t agree. Doesn’t have to be. Some people like tacky Christmas stuff and that’s fine but it’s not all of a piece.

lakesidewinter · 24/11/2020 15:02

We all have Xmas bedding, dc have flannel and we have organic cotton. They get a month of use each year.
We also have crockery for the season as well as soft furnishings.
DH thinks it's a bit nuts but we have enough storage space and it is cold and dark where we live.

GatoradeMeBitch · 24/11/2020 15:03

We have Christmas bedding. And it's used in rotation all year along with the rest of it. I have pink Christmas penguins on my bed about the third week in every month. (I wonder if that's outing lol)

Namerchanger42 · 24/11/2020 15:04

I am always very Scrooge like about waste and unnecessarily filling cupboards up but I’m thinking I might do this year to try and chew DD11 up. Her class are having to self isolate again and she’s very down.

Wexone · 24/11/2020 15:05

I personally don't like it, its usually that cheap cotton that goes bobbly and stiff after a few washes. To me its tacky. I have invested in good quality bedding over the years, plain white and love getting into bed with nice clean sheets. But as long as people are not throwing it away after every xmas, seriously damaging the environment, than have no problem. some people like that sort of stuff, each to their own I think what people are saying as winter bedding sounds a bit better though

I agree, a quick Google and it all seems to be the cheap stuff and the brushed cotton. There's even duvet covers made out of the teddy bear fleece stuff. Angry
HappydaysArehere · 24/11/2020 15:16

Christmas bedding! Unbelievable! Why not cover the bedspread with presents and wrapping paper? The money for the bedding should buy extra presents. We have had so many lovely Christmases without staying in bed to admire bed linen.

lakesidewinter · 24/11/2020 15:20

Christmas bedding is as cheap as you buy it, if that makes sense.
I like decent quality sheets so that is what I buy.
Looking at seasonal bedding adds to my cheer, I like a few lie ins over the holidays as well.
Not mine but I have been considering adding another set.

To think Christmas bedding is a waste.
kleew1 · 24/11/2020 15:20

I love the tackiness of christmas and everything that goes with it Grin

2 minds about bedding due to cost etc... But you have got me looking now OP!!

Sgtmajormummy · 24/11/2020 15:22

Couldn’t you justify this? It’s what DC1 had for at least three months of the year.

To think Christmas bedding is a waste.
spiderlight · 24/11/2020 15:24

If you can find some that's nice and reasonably tasteful that you'll get a good few years' use from, I bet it will be the sort of thing that will be remembered fondly when they're older as making them feel all cosy and Christmassy. It wasn't a thing when my DS was little but I'd have loved putting it on secretly ready for 1st December. My friend manages to change her kids' bedding over to their Christmas sets while they are asleep so they just wake up to it - quite how she does this, I do not know, but they absolutely love it and it's the start of Christmas for them every year.

drumandthebass · 24/11/2020 15:26

I think it's less wasteful than Christmas pyjamas and jumpers that kids will grow out of.

Glitterblue · 24/11/2020 15:26

@RozHuntleysStump

Maybe have special’winter’ bedding instead.
I was going to suggest this. We have some for both beds, we have one with rabbits, deer etc wearing scarves and DD has one with penguins and another with little deer and snowflakes. They're all brushed cotton. I start using them around October when the winter duvets go on and use them right through to at least the end of February. They don't look specifically Christmassy but could pass for Christmassy!
MaskingForIt · 24/11/2020 15:29

Aibu to think Christmas bedding is a waste of money and space? Let's face it its only going to be on for a few weeks max each each.

I suspect the kind of people who have Christmas bedding aren’t the kind of people who care about waste or their environmental impact.

But what's better than sharing a bit of joy with the kids in a fairly joyless year

Yeah, what’s more joyous than creating more waste? I really hope my children grow up in a world with depleted resources and live among rubbish tips. Ah never mind, we’ll just dump it all in some brown people’s country.

keeprocking · 24/11/2020 15:31

We bought a set of fairly cheap elf bedding for when our granddaughter was staying and managed to make up her bed while she was in the bath, she heard the jingly bell of the elf's hat which he dropped on the stairs as he tried to sneak out. The look on her face was truly amazing and worth far more than the cost and I am a reknowned tight-wad, sitting here with a throw across my legs rather than putting the heating on!
