To think Christmas bedding is a waste.

Aibu to think Christmas bedding is a waste of money and space? Let's face it its only going to be on for a few weeks max each each.
Dc want some and tbh I'm tempted given the shitty covid year we have had, tempted to go full on Santa's Grotto but the other bit of me thinks.... More clutter.... More money that could go on better things.... But what's better than sharing a bit of joy with the kids in a fairly joyless year Confused

DD has "winter" bedding even if it was bought with Christmas in mind two years ago.

It's the fluffy bedding type and stays on from mid/late November until February/March so I don't consider it a waste.

PattyPan · 24/11/2020 16:42

I think something you can use all winter is better value for money/space than Christmas specific. We currently have brushed cotton bedding on and it’s so cosy, but not suitable for summer use.

I have been lusting after Christmas crockery for ages and unable to justify it to myself so understand your predicament!

PenguinErector · 24/11/2020 16:43

What "type of people" buy Christmas bedding and how do we know what their environmental considerations are?

I limit what I buy new all year, wrap gifts in recyclable brown paper/newspaper. I've been using cloth sanitary pads for 10 years alongside cloth nappies/wipes for the kids and use bars of soap, plastic free deodorant and natural/plastic free cleaning products as well as the usual recycling.

But please. Feel free to tell me what "type of person" I am for using a duvet cover with some reindeer on for 5+ years...

I’m 60 and this sort of stuff didn’t exist when I was a child. But I’ve decided that I want some just to cheer myself up.
Any suggestions for the best place to get some?

Just Google-it's everywhere! Dunelm, John Lewis, Asda...

Very reasonably priced and some not so tacky designs

nosswith · 24/11/2020 16:52

Just not a good idea. Low use bedding, though at least it can be used for a few years unlike Christmas jumpers which children grow out of.

reginaphalangeeee · 24/11/2020 16:53

Mine is more winter theme rather than Christmas, my son has winter themed ones and then a Christmas one. I would need warmer duvet covers anyway as it's so cold, so doesn't really matter what pattern is on them as I would be buying them regardless. The wintery ones start getting used when I switch out the duvets for thicker ones.

Brakebackcyclebot · 24/11/2020 16:54

Christmas bedding? WTAF? Is this a thing?

poshme · 24/11/2020 16:59

@MaskingForIt
'I suspect the kind of people who have Christmas bedding aren’t the kind of people who care about waste or their environmental impact. '

Well I've just bought some Christmas bedding. It'll make a nice change- I've had the same 2 sets of bedding on my bed since I got married 19 years ago.
So 3 sets of bedding in 19 years isn't that bad surely?
And yes- it's probably tacky & unnecessary. But I don't give a shit. It's been a shit year, I can't see my family for Christmas, and some bright bedding might make me smile.
And I'll use it through December & January... and then probably every year till it falls apart- like everything else I own.

Angel2702 · 24/11/2020 17:00

Ours love the Christmas bedding we use it throughout December and it last years and years. My daughter is using my original Raymond Briggs Snowman duvet from when I was a child so definitely better value than most Christmas decorations.

Angel2702 · 24/11/2020 17:03

Mind you I also have Easter and Halloween bedding. So you’d hate my house. If something themed exists I buy it.

FippertyGibbett · 24/11/2020 17:08

No it’s not a waste, it adds to the excitement and build up to Xmas 🎄

LITHIUMcomeasUare · 24/11/2020 17:09

@formerbabe

I just can't be arsed with all this stuff
Grin

Indeed..... along with the naff Christmas jumpers sported by the entire family of cheese loving individuals, the over the top naff lights etc etc all over the house/garden/windows and even on some people's cars, the Christmas Eve present box because you cannot wait a few hours, the cheap plastic stuff people display on surfaces, the 'special' cups/plates/dishes, paper/plastic table stuff...... etc etc etc....

Lots of money to burn/splurge on crap - however, having said all that each to their own - if tasteless tat is your thing then go ahead it keeps lots of factories open in China and uses up huge amounts of the earth's precious resources

Cheeseandwin5 · 24/11/2020 17:10

If you follow that process , you could say that about all decorations and even presents.
Why bother- you could save the money and not put it up or buy it cheaper in the sales a few weeks later.

It has actually crossed my mind to do this. Christmas is a huge waste of money on the whole. Everything is more expensive before.
TheDogsMother · 24/11/2020 17:15

@Sparklingbrook hmmmmm not sure it quite fits with the decor Grin

Inthemuckheap · 24/11/2020 17:17

Is that a thing? No nope no way. Not exactly classy is it? For kids winter bedding such as polar bears or penguins is ok at a push as long as the quality is good but I don't get Christmas sweaters, pyjamas etc. Waste of money and materials (yep I am the Grinch personified)

Lilliarna · 24/11/2020 17:17

I've got a Christmas bed set. We havent even got children 🤷‍♀️

Although I reckon we must have about 20 bed sets though. I dont even know how many towels we've got.

VeganCow · 24/11/2020 17:18

Is there a law I am not aware of that says you can't put Christmas themed bedding on at any time of the year? I have a nice brushed cotton tartany set and it goes on whenever unless the weather is too warm for brushed cotton that is.

Lilliarna · 24/11/2020 17:18

I want some Christmas pyjamas too. I might buy matching ones on Friday 😂

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 24/11/2020 17:19

No it's not remotely classy.
Does it make people smile 😃 Hell Yeah!

JustanotherTuesday · 24/11/2020 17:19

We have Winter bedding. My DH would never have agreed to a Christmas duvet, so we got a checked duvets in deep colours like burgundy and dark red. They can be used until about February or March.I even managed to make him think it was his idea Smile

OverTheRubicon · 24/11/2020 17:22

Yanbu. And all the people talking about how it was only £12 are missing the point on the massive amount of fresh water waste and environmental damage going to new cotton that's worn for less than a month a year...
