To think Christmas bedding is a waste.

Aibu to think Christmas bedding is a waste of money and space? Let's face it its only going to be on for a few weeks max each each.
Dc want some and tbh I'm tempted given the shitty covid year we have had, tempted to go full on Santa's Grotto but the other bit of me thinks.... More clutter.... More money that could go on better things.... But what's better than sharing a bit of joy with the kids in a fairly joyless year Confused

I’ve bought some for this year and now wish I’d bought it years ago. Obviously you can use it every year which I hadn’t even thought about till this year Blush

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 24/11/2020 14:29

When I bought my Christmas bedding for us (me and Dh, dc1&2) about 9-10 years ago people thought I'd gone crazy.
It was unheard of then and I paid a small fortune for them from Groupon (the only place I could get them from).
Now you can get them everywhere and pretty cheap too.
We still use ours every year.
If I work out what I initially spent, how many times we've used them and for how long I'll continue to use them they work out very cheap per use.
It still puts a smile on my DC's faces, even the older teen, when I change their usual linen to the Christmas ones. So I think in terms of waste, yabu.

liveitwell · 24/11/2020 14:29

Absolute waste of money. Same with Xmas clothing, plates etc.

theneverendinglaundry · 24/11/2020 14:29

I'd say after the year we've all had, if it brings you joy and you can afford it, DO IT!

Sparklingbrook · 24/11/2020 14:30

How about a Christmas rug?

To think Christmas bedding is a waste.

We have a set I bought dd about 5 years ago - we only use it for 6 weeks or so but it’s nice to have (as a PP, I wash and dry in a day). It lives with the decorations the rest of the year - I bring home a few things at the start of December (mugs, hand towel, bed set, advent calendar) but we won’t decorate the rest of the house until later in the month.

I think it's going to take a bit more than some bed linen to bring Christmas joy this year.
MillieEpple · 24/11/2020 14:32

We caved in this year too. I think they will last years and we have the space to store them.

Bustingitthistime · 24/11/2020 14:33

I tbink clothes and pjs are to an extent as kids outgrow them (but then they can be passed down or on). However nothing is stopping you bringing out the Christmas plates, cushions etc year on year so I disagree. Obviously unnecessary but lots of things are.

Sparklingbrook · 24/11/2020 14:34

Christmas plates? Shock

Brighterthansunflowers · 24/11/2020 14:35

I love my Christmas bedding! I’ve had one set for five years and would wash dry and remake my bed so I had it for the whole of December. Then last year I got given another set so now I alternate them

I wouldn’t buy new every year, i agree that is wasteful, but I don’t see the issue with something I use for five weeks or so every year for five years and counting! I’m sure I have lots of things in my home I get less use out of!

sapnupuas · 24/11/2020 14:35

I have two sets that I alternate every week for the month.

GroundAlmonds · 24/11/2020 14:36

I used to think it wasn’t worth it, but I have cracked this year. Didn’t buy expensive sets. Maybe just needed the extra cheer after this year.

LemonsYellow · 24/11/2020 14:37

I’ve never heard of Christmas bedding!

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 24/11/2020 14:38

We have winter linens, I like brushed cotton once it gets chillier, it's not Christmas themed so I usually get October to March from it, but definitely not summery , one set is just a check/tartan, one has stags etc, and the other has a scandi type pattern. Best of both worlds

Holothane · 24/11/2020 14:38

I’ve got red silk pillowcase and a red cover for my v shaped pillow I love them it’s cheers me up.

magicstar1 · 24/11/2020 14:38

We didn't want to go full on Christmassy, so got red tartan duvet cover instead. It's lovely and bright. I've just got matching ones for the dog's beds downstairs for this year lol.

yellowmaoampinball · 24/11/2020 14:39

I bought some this year. All the stuff we'd like to do or normally do isn't on. I'm going to put it on their beds on the 1st of December while they're in school as a little surprise to put a smile on their faces.

APurpleSquirrel · 24/11/2020 14:39

I've bought a red check brushed cotton set from Sainsburys - it's lovely & wintery but not too Christmasy

pippistrelle · 24/11/2020 14:41

I don't have it and think it's pretty unnecessary. However, I am a massive hypocrite as I have a real hankering for some Christmas glassware. The vintage sort with transfers on the side. Haven't come across any yet in suitable locations, and I'm not mad enough to pay international shipping costs.

Devillishlypicklypickles · 24/11/2020 14:45

I have a lovely wintery duvet set from Sainsburys, its white and fuzzy with little grey penguins and tiny little fir trees and stars, I use it pretty much all through the winter.

I bought a really nice quality Santa bedding set for DS when he was about 3. I put it on every year on Christmas Eve until New Year’s Eve and it’s part of our Christmas rituals. I also have winter themed bedding for after Christmas. As he’s in a single bed and likely to be in a single bed for at least 15 years, it seemed a good buy to me.

(Never bothered with Elf on the shelf, Christmas Eve PJ’s, gift boxes etc.)

Wavey123 · 24/11/2020 14:49

John Lewis do a really good quality ski scene bedding, use it from around Nov to Feb/March so gets plenty of use without being too Christmassy

rsababe · 24/11/2020 14:50

It's a bit of fun isn't it? My inner scrooge thinks why bother but then if you children are younger and not teenagers maybe they'd like it.

It's not hurting anybody.
