To think Christmas bedding is a waste.

Aibu to think Christmas bedding is a waste of money and space? Let's face it its only going to be on for a few weeks max each each.
Dc want some and tbh I'm tempted given the shitty covid year we have had, tempted to go full on Santa's Grotto but the other bit of me thinks.... More clutter.... More money that could go on better things.... But what's better than sharing a bit of joy with the kids in a fairly joyless year Confused

I use my christmas bedding in July sometimes. It makes me laugh.

Bluesheep8 · 26/11/2020 11:15

I love the implied mental superiority of the "I didn't know Christmas bedding was a thing" brigade

Eh? Where's the implied superiority in not knowing about something? Isn't that ironic in the extreme? And the sentiment which accompanies your post is just rude.

Have you never shopped in Home Bargains?
Bluesheep8 · 26/11/2020 11:21

Yes I have shopped in Home Bargains.

ekidmxcl · 26/11/2020 11:23

I bought a Christmas duvet cover a few years ago. It’s one of a couple of spares and I use it all year round. No waste here and kids had a Christmas duvet cover when they were little to enjoy.

TheSoapyFrog · 26/11/2020 11:33

I've purchased some Christmas bedding this year for the kids. And they both have personalised pillows! I'm treating it as I do other Christmas decorations. I know the kids will love them.

notafanoftheman · 26/11/2020 12:01

I have never shopped in Home Bargains. It does not exist where I live. Nor does —mindless consumerist— Christmas bedding.

AdoraBell · 26/11/2020 12:07

DD1 is a Christmas fiend, if she had her way everthing would be Christmas themed. I refused to pay for her Christmas bedding so that when she moves out permanently she can take it with her.

I’m not a grinch. We have a multitude of bedding and towels that DH will not agree to get rid of, hoarding tendency. It drives me nuts.

My DS puts his on on his bed for his birthday in June. It makes him laugh as well.
SomewhereEast · 26/11/2020 12:12

I don't do Christmas bedding personally, but isn't every trivial source of fun & enjoyment a "waste" to a certain mindset? mother in law I am looking at you Honestly if it sparks joy for you & yours, go for it, especially this shitty year. If it doesn't...well, don't.

Ginnymweasley · 26/11/2020 13:21

See I don't see why people have to poke fun at what other people enjoy. Implying moral superiority if you don't have xmas bedding. My kids like their xmas bedding. They both have 1 xmas set and 2 other bedding sets to use throughout the year. I don't see how that is wasteful in the grand scheme of my life. God forbid we have something that might bring us joy once in a while.

Bluesheep8 · 26/11/2020 13:38

No one implied moral superiority though - I certainly didn't. What is morally superior about not having heard of something as a concept then getting the gist of what it is, doing some googling, and deciding you don't like it?
I don't like Christmas bedding, pyjamas or jumpers. What's morally superior about that?

RaiderOfTheKitchenCupboard · 26/11/2020 13:56

We’ve got 2 sets of winter themed bedding, one with a Scandinavian snowflake and reindeer design, and one with foxes and robins. We bought them in January sales because they were a bargain.

festivebug · 26/11/2020 14:00

Maybe you could compromise and get her cushion covers or a throw blanket instead?Smile

Duckwit · 26/11/2020 14:04

I love how on MN, any thread about something 'not strictly necessary' results in one person coming on to tell everyone they must hate the environment, and other people then listing all the eco friendly stuff they do to offset their Christmas bedding/beauty advent calendar/Halloween decorations/bottled water/washing the bedsheets every other day. It happens every single time! Grin

Lexilooo · 26/11/2020 14:28

My Mum has a Christmas Cushion, it comes out with the Christmas decorations and stays on the sofa until twelfth night. Reckon it must be nearly 40 years old now! It has probably not worked out too badly on a cost per use basis now.

And it's so UGLY as well, as are Christmas pyjamas.

What is ugly? Every conceivable seasonal design of bedding?

What a strange thing to say.

Yes, most of them. Christmas stuff is always red which I think is an ugly color for decor. I hate 'cosy', fussy looking stuff.

I only like smooth cold, white cotton sheets.

Agreed. My house is decorated very neutrally in pale colours. When I think of Christmas bedding I think reds and greens and traditional festive colours. In my house that would look ugly. I don't even have traditional festive colours on my (very small) tree, I just have white and silver. But that's just my taste and my opinion.

Me too. Cold smooth cream bedding like in a hotel. Not bobbly flannellette. Grin

We have winter bedding (ie thicker and warmer - brushed cotton).
It is not just for Christmas but looks festive enough on.

It gets used for about 4 months a year.

I store it the rest of the year - but I'd be doing that regardless of the pattern, as it's too warm for summer (except on very hot nights when we use it without a duvet inside - it's a bit heavier than just a normal duvet cover, which I find helps me sleep better).

I don't worry about using bedding less - it just means it will last longer. I find sheets start tearing anyway after about 15 years of continuous use - bedding these days does not last forever anyway.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 27/11/2020 07:24

Dunelm have a lovely brushed cotton pale grey with white deer & woodland things.

To think Christmas bedding is a waste.

VivaMiltonKeynes · 27/11/2020 09:41

Six sets of bedding is pretty unusual though. Most people wouldn't have that, not least because it presents a storage problem

Is it ? I keep mine in my ottoman bed.
