Aibu to think Christmas bedding is a waste of money and space? Let's face it its only going to be on for a few weeks max each each.
Dc want some and tbh I'm tempted given the shitty covid year we have had, tempted to go full on Santa's Grotto but the other bit of me thinks.... More clutter.... More money that could go on better things.... But what's better than sharing a bit of joy with the kids in a fairly joyless year Confused

I want Christmas bedding.

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 27/11/2020 09:57

I have Christmas bedding and plates and glasses. I'm in my 40's and live alone but I like it so why not? If it brings you joy then do it. If not, don't.

Bluesheep8 · 27/11/2020 10:01

I didn't know christmas bedding was a thing.
Off to amazon

Careful, you'll be accused of joining the ranks of the morally superior! But I've found them to be very welcoming and it seems I fit right in!! Grin

Bluesheep8 · 27/11/2020 10:05

Come on - you KNOW that they are saying that for effect . It's MN and no one is so oblivious ! Of course it was rude - it was meant to be

Grin maybe a common trait of the morally superior is a low tolerance level for rudeness then!

We use ours every year and store with Christmas pjs, jumpers table cloths etc for the next year. They don't need to be expensive, supermarkets usually have them in for around £10.

It depends on the kids, my two love theirs and get really excited and its part of Christmas, we have some for our bed too and it make me feel festive. If they'll help you feel festive I think its worth it but I won't give a second thought if someone didn't want them. I haven't got a Santa cover for my loo but plenty of people too. Its just about how you want to decorate your home.

notafanoftheman · 27/11/2020 13:28

Santa loo covers? Fuck me, late-stage capitalism really is eating itself.

MercurytoLibra · 27/11/2020 14:09

@NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs

I also have a Christmas shower curtain that I bought 3 years ago
I have the bed linen in that design gutted I missed the shower curtain.

We have some tasteful-ish Christmas bedding from JL. It’s pure white and just has little people scattered around occasionally in the “snow” doing things like getting Christmas trees or carrying presents. It’s a bit of fun for a couple of weeks, and it will last for years as it doesn’t get much use.

I feel the same about Christmas nighties etc for the DC though; you’re buying them something they’ll only wear a handful of times. Especially if people buy them as a present, as they don’t even open them until Christmas Day!

silverbubbles · 27/11/2020 14:14

can't believe its a thing!. Never even crossed my mind - total waste of money

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 27/11/2020 14:26

I have that Dunelm one, can't wait to put it on the bed. I'll probably use it till February.

I'm planning to use a top sheet though in case of bobbliness, after reading this thread.

It just looks...comforting. Nothing wrong with indulging in a bit of that.

Just thought I’d leave this here. Grin

To think Christmas bedding is a waste.
WellTidy · 01/12/2020 14:06

Ours went on yesterday and will stay on until January 6th, or thereabouts. So it gets 5-6 weeks' wear every year. I can't get Christmas bedding to fit our bed, so its just the DC that have it. Actually, they have two sets each, one on the bed, one in the wash.

It isn't a waste - their usual bedding gets less wear as a result of the Christmas bedding being on the bed.

DS2's is proper tacky and embracing of Christmas - think red and white polycotton, snowmen, countdown to Christmas Day etc. DS1's is really lovely - crisp cotton, cream background with lots of small Christmas trees (M&S, last year or the year).

Icanseewhyichangednyusername · 01/12/2020 14:07

@Angeldust747

Ours gets used for a month each year (I wash and dry and put back on the same day) so gets a fair amount of use, and then it's put away for next year. The bedding will last for years as it's not on year round and adds a bit of Christmas cheer. If they would enjoy it, then why not?
Do you wash abs change your bedding every day?!
lakesideadvent · 01/12/2020 15:52

I think what Angeldust meant was that they use the bedding for a solid month by washing, drying and putting back on the Xmas bedding.
Not that they wash daily but the washing they do do happens in the same day allowing them not to swap the bedding out.

Holothane · 01/12/2020 19:15

Well I’ve just brought the one I I wanted, the one with a Christmas tree in the snow on.

MaryShelley1818 · 01/12/2020 19:22

I love Christmas bedding, how can it be a waste of money? It's just bedding.

Brissiegirl · 01/12/2020 19:31

Dd 22 phoned me today - to check it Christmas duvet cover will be on the bed tonight when she gets home 😂. She's a Christmas baby and embraces christmas the whole month of December.

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 01/12/2020 19:40

Ours is a nordic style with red stars. Used Feb to Jan. Brushed cotton and so far lasted 5 years xx
