To think that Trump is not going to get re-elected?

There are still a few fringe types who think he’s going to get a landslide victory.

Personally I find this unlikely.

Any MNers from across the pond have a view more informed than myself?

The news were reporting a 90% chance that Hilary Clinton would win in 2016, I wouldn't be so sure he won't be re-elected (as much as I hate the idea)

Anon778833 · 23/10/2020 20:52

Oh dear 🤦🏻‍♀️

Apparently most Americans have already voted?

Since 2016 there are no more certainties. Nothing is the same anymore.

Never underestimate the potential of an ambitious populist - just look at what we've got. It could happen there again.

Id put a bet on Biden winning but far from a sure thing.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 23/10/2020 20:53

There's a long running thread in AIBU about American politics - very useful! Will link in a mo.

MordredsOrrery · 23/10/2020 20:54

As much as I loathe the idea, I think he will be reelected. Partly because of the 'better the devil you know' factor, and partly because he's doing everything in his power to reduce voting opportunities in areas where Democrat support is higher.

Thank you @HoneysuckIejasmine

I think you are making the mistake of assuming that the majority of American voters are rational, intelligent and well-informed.

KindergartenKop · 23/10/2020 20:55

I'm firmly on this side of the pond but I bloody hope Biden wins.

ramblingsonthego · 23/10/2020 20:55

I have a feeling trump will win due to how it went in 2016. Everyone said he wouldn't and he did. I pray for humanity that he doesn't win, but 2020 is the year that keeps giving us shit.

stopgap · 23/10/2020 20:55

Biden is generally up by nine points in the polls. Early voting indicates that this will be the biggest turnout since 1908. I am praying to the heavens that Biden will win, but I’m nervous after the 2016 outcome, when it was anticipated Clinton would win by a landslide.

contrmary · 23/10/2020 20:56

I'd say it's 55/45 against Trump. But that's within the range where the outsider could win, see Trump v Clinton or Brexit referendum.

A lot of it is people - normal people and media, US and abroad - wishing Trump loses, the feeling that he can't possibly win because he's so awful. This adds to the feeling that he CAN'T win, because they only socialise with other people who "know" he can't possibly win.

If my odds (55/45) are correct, Trump would still win 45 times out of a hundred. More than possible, especially considering I had a run of 11 straight reds on online roulette last night!

Anon778833 · 23/10/2020 20:57

The problem with Clinton is that she’s an equally and person in a different way. Just my opinion...

Prepare yourself for the worst. He will likely win. Then if he doesn't, great news.

Gertrudetheadelie · 23/10/2020 20:58

I need to believe he won't. I've promised myself champagne

Anon778833 · 23/10/2020 20:58

Well, I’m basing my own view on Americans saying that they are sick of hearing Trump talking about himself and hearing him make everything about him.

BruceAndNosh · 23/10/2020 21:00

He might well win, in which case USA is totally fucked

jasjas1973 · 23/10/2020 21:01

I think Trump will win, 50m mainly democrats have voted already but he will win the electoral college but not the popular vote.

If Trump loses by a small margin, he'll contest it.

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 23/10/2020 21:01

I think Biden will win, but nothing is certain... will be interesting to watch what happens

VeryQuaintIrene · 23/10/2020 21:04

I hope with all my heart that he doesn't, but I doubt it will be the landslide that is being predicted. That @#$%ing electoral college that gave us the "gift" of GW Bush and Trump 2016 is the thing that I am most scared of for subverting the popular will.

HateIsNotGood · 23/10/2020 21:05

Who knows really - i was uber surprised he was elected before and have no idea if he does it again.

He's not against Hills this time - a much harder candidate than the ineffective Biden - so who really knows.

It's the US of A and their thing - whilst nice to know about their elections, I'm not too bothered really.

aLilNonnyMouse · 23/10/2020 21:07

I'm expecting him to win. I really really hope he doesn't, but I've hung around the internet where his supporters talk and there are a lot of them.

MarshaBradyo · 23/10/2020 21:07

Listening to R4 the polls would have to be historically out for him to win.

But I still think he might, hopefully not though.
