AIBU to think that Boot cut jeans are back in?

I left the UK 11 years ago, I think skinnies were just coming into fashion at the time. Where we live now it is pretty hot all year round so rarely wear jeans.

We're moving back to the UK in November and I will need to do a fair bit of clothes shopping as I don't even own a winter coat. I've been looking online and noticed that Bootcut jeans seem to be in quite a few of them.

I look utterly crap in skinnies so if Bootcuts are no longer considered 'Mum Jeans' then my timing is impeccable.

I never stopped wearing them. They suit me and I find them comfortable.

Don't get hung up on trends - wear your own style!

alula · 29/08/2020 14:44

Everyone I know still wears skinny jeans but I love bootcut jeans. I don't care if they back in or not. They suit my body shape far better than skinnies!

RozHuntleysStump · 29/08/2020 14:45

I think bootcut is really unflattering and dated.

Goodoldfashionedploverboy · 29/08/2020 14:46

Skinny jeans look shit on everyone who is not a 13-year-old 6-foot-tall model.

NationalBust · 29/08/2020 14:47

Recommendations please! I've been looking for bootcut but all the websites I look on have one token pair for every fourteen skinnies, and I look awful in skinnies (I realise too late, owning nothing but).

This!! They are the only ones I find fit me and are comfortable on the rare occasions I am not wearing shorts. I have also never stopped wearing them 🙌
DragonPie · 29/08/2020 14:49

But how do you wear bootcut jeans without looking dated? Genuinely asking.

mamamia2020 · 29/08/2020 14:50

@Goodoldfashionedploverboy
I agree. I rarely see anyone that looks good in skinnies, myself included.

I am a skinnies fan, but I saw an article somewhere where Anna Wintour said bootcut is in, so you have stylish company OP.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 29/08/2020 14:51

Not bootcuts - straight jeans. Or cropped wide-legged.

mamamia2020 · 29/08/2020 14:51

@DragonPie
See, this is my confusion. It seems that Bootcuts ARE back in so should no longer look dated. Perhaps skinnies will be dated soon?

nationalbust Surprisingly my best pair actually came from Tesco’s! I even got them in the sale so think they were only about £6 but normally £10-£12
They are genuinely the best jeans I have ever had

Bluntness100 · 29/08/2020 14:52

I think op you need to wear what you feel good in and not what you deem fashionable.

For me, yes boot cuts look very dated, I think straight are much more flattering and current, or relaxed skinny, if you don’t wish to wear skinny jeans.

Again though really it’s about what you like and feel good in

PinkBuffalo · 29/08/2020 14:53

I Genuinely have no idea what is fashionable or not. So i may well look dated I would have no idea

mamamia2020 · 29/08/2020 14:53

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar
I would have no clue what footwear to wear with cropped wide-legged. Also, I'm 5ft 10 and when I was growing up you could never buy long length trousers so must of mine were half mast, not through choice. Wearing cropped wide-legged jeans would give me flashbacks. I'm quite partial to a full-length wide leg. Or is that naff? I have no clue.

I bought Next enhancer jeans. Not skinny and not bootcut either. I'll see if I can find them because they were last years purchase

BogRollBOGOF · 29/08/2020 14:56

Due to having muscular legs, there's little distinction between straight and bootcut on me anyway Grin

Skinnies are hard work to keep up in the right position because they're not well cut for my curves.

I've bought straight in the last couple of years and they are much more comfortable. I'd happily go back to boot cut again, plus they're much easier to wear with a broader range of socks and footwear.

DragonPie · 29/08/2020 14:56

@mamamia2020 problem is the only people I see wearing bootcut jeans are on the school run, with a pair of ‘mum Boots’ or walking shoes and a fleece. I don’t want to look like that. 🤷‍♀️

Northernsoullover · 29/08/2020 14:56

These. They have the merest hint of a bootcut..

mamamia2020 · 29/08/2020 14:59

@Northernsoullover
I like those, I think they're a nice 'inbetween' jeans until the world embraces Bootcuts and openly mocks skinnies for being the new 'mum jeans'. Grin

Full length wide leg jeans in my opinion make everyone look much bigger than they are, the material is not soft enough to drape. They are fashionable but personally I’d be in dated boot cuts before I was wandering round in Wide legged.

A friend of mine bought some wore them to a party, she’s tall and slim and god she looked ridiculous, with these massive wide legged stiff jeans on, you could see everyone looking at them sideways, she’s never had them on since.

Possibly it was just hers, they were genuinely massive, so maybe a neater wide leg would be more flattering.

At the opposite end of height, cropped wide leg both give me the look of little-girl-just-had-growth-spurt, and chop me off at one of the most unflattering parts of my body and make me look very stumpy.

Close fitting capri at the knee is fine for leggings as it's a slimmer point to cut off and the line of legs is still evident. Otherwise I need full length or for dresses just above the knee.

(Still traumatised by the horrific untrendy, impractical straight school skirt that had "growing room")

CatBatCat · 29/08/2020 15:07

Everyone seems to be saying they're back in and they're making an appearance on the shelves but I'm yet to actually see anyone wearing them out in the streets.

Bluntness100 · 29/08/2020 15:08

Northern I think they are straight cut?

KrabbyPatties · 29/08/2020 15:11

Boot cut only work if you are lean of thigh

My legs are not bad but complete tree trunks in bootcut!!
