AIBU to think that Boot cut jeans are back in?

I left the UK 11 years ago, I think skinnies were just coming into fashion at the time. Where we live now it is pretty hot all year round so rarely wear jeans.

We're moving back to the UK in November and I will need to do a fair bit of clothes shopping as I don't even own a winter coat. I've been looking online and noticed that Bootcut jeans seem to be in quite a few of them.

I look utterly crap in skinnies so if Bootcuts are no longer considered 'Mum Jeans' then my timing is impeccable.

@TheRealHousewife

Jeans confuse me.

Are ‘boyfriend’ jeans, ‘girlfriend’ jeans and ‘mom’ jeans all the same cut? On just perusing styles I can’t differentiate between them.

Not a whole lot of difference. Boyfriend's are usually slightly lower rise and loose in the leg. Girlfriend are are like slimmer versions of boyfriends. Mom are high wasted and have legs ranging from loose (like BF) to slimmer-loose (like GF)

The problem I find with bootcuts is that they really only suit the slim of thigh. Lots of heavy thigh women seem to think they are flattering but in reality, they just fit at the widest part of the leg (thigh) and then taper ever so slightly and go out again at the bottom. So they focus on the thickest area of the leg and don't show anything slimmer, like an ankle. So they give the illusion that the whole leg is as thick as the thigh. Same with wide leg jeans.Unless you are really tall, they make you look like your widest part all the way down.

Hangingbasketofdoom · 30/08/2020 17:34

I'm not convinced, I have thin ankles and lower legs (thighs on the other hand..) and skinny jeans cling to my thinner bits but they don't make the overall "look" any better for showing that. I think basically if you're fat you look crap in anything, or that seems to be the overall message!

Asuitablecat · 30/08/2020 17:45

damn yes! I like skinnies cos I can.show my legs without having to wear a skirt and get cold. Bootcut will hide all.that.

Bwlch · 30/08/2020 18:14

Not if you wear them tight enough.

Asuitablecat · 30/08/2020 18:19

Then they're not boot cut!

TellYourCatISaidHi · 30/08/2020 18:19

I do find them terribly dated, I remember wearing them in the late 90s/early 2000s and they were often paired with pointy shoes, would get raggy at the bottom, and soak up the rain.

I wasn’t sure about skinny jeans when they came out but I’ve been wearing them since about 2006 (I remember being at Uni and trying some on and being surprised to like them). I wear them with Doc Martens or Converse. I find Primark skinnies are perfect for me - the size 12s fit perfectly and don’t sag throughout the day, they wash well too.

Bwlch · 30/08/2020 18:44

Then they're not boot cut

Tight around your thighs and bum, I meant.

MangoFeverDream · 30/08/2020 18:53

People have been wanting boot cut to come back
for years now ... it’s always just been on the cusp

damnthatanxiety · 30/08/2020 20:43

Anyone with weight concerns thinking that bootcuts are flattering is unlikely to wear them skin tight around the bum and thighs though
minipilling · 31/08/2020 03:34

The real question is why everything has to be high waisted now. I like the look, but I have endometriosis and bloating issues and absolutely can't have anything tight or binding around my waist. But I can barely find low rise jeans anymore! Same with leggings... everything is high waisted and has a thick band which is murder on my abdomen. I just want a nice thin elastic waist with less pressure! I know some people like them because they hold tummies in (some of my friends with endo love them) but it's the last thing I need.

Ihave2dogs2cats5dc · 31/08/2020 03:40

Cropped bootcuts are in.

Speak for yourself! Rude. 😒

What about flares, they seem in at the minute and I always think they look very fashionable!

MsMarple · 31/08/2020 06:41

@ChandosBucks I don’t know about fashionability, but Dorothy Perkins do longer length jeans and they are relatively cheap. Size guide super helpful so you can see what length/style comes in 34”/86cm www.dorothyperkins.com/size-guide/DenimFitGuide

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 31/08/2020 06:47

I’m wearing full on flares. I love em

SexyGiraffe · 31/08/2020 07:04

I am very tall but have big hips and bum. Skinnies make my legs look like parsnips so I've never really worn them. I can wear cropped jeans but bootcut balance my figure - I've always had at least one pair on the go.

Bwlch · 31/08/2020 07:14

Cropped bootcuts are in

For that original Star Trek look.

Ihave2dogs2cats5dc · 31/08/2020 07:21

Well i didnt say i like it. Lots of trends are daft.

Riojasmoothy · 31/08/2020 07:41

@ChandosBucks I buy my jeans from Next, I'm 5'9ish with long legs. The 10l fit with flat shoes and 10xl or tall with a small heel.
They do beautiful slim leg jeans. I gave had one pair of the lift, slim and shape for at least 4 years so worth the price. They range from about £20 to £50 so not that expensive either.

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/08/2020 07:46

I saw some for sale. Can’t remember where so did a google. According to NEXT they’re back.

ThunderSkies · 31/08/2020 07:53

Boot ut jeans look bad when they’re too short. They should be resting on top of the boot/ shoe. Worn properly, they look really flattering. Much more flattering than skinnies on most people.

NomadNoMore · 31/08/2020 08:00

@mamamia2020 I'm 5' 9 and just got some excellent wide legged, high waisted jeans in the Massimo Dutti sale for €30. Had to send back the button fly ones because they came up two sizes too small

MaybeIDidMaybeIDidnt · 31/08/2020 08:05

Tons of young and trendy teens wearing bootcuts round here, my skinnies are so 'last year' and apparently I need to 'get with the programme' according to DD 🙄
