AIBU to think that Boot cut jeans are back in?

I left the UK 11 years ago, I think skinnies were just coming into fashion at the time. Where we live now it is pretty hot all year round so rarely wear jeans.

We're moving back to the UK in November and I will need to do a fair bit of clothes shopping as I don't even own a winter coat. I've been looking online and noticed that Bootcut jeans seem to be in quite a few of them.

I look utterly crap in skinnies so if Bootcuts are no longer considered 'Mum Jeans' then my timing is impeccable.

Straight leg, wide leg and flares are in. Bootcut I don’t think are in with younger people

Happynow001 · 30/08/2020 03:11

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar

Not bootcuts - straight jeans. Or cropped wide-legged.

Yep straight for me too. I find them flattering and comfortable (High waisted wherever possible). I never suited bootcut and skinnies only under longer tops, given my tendency to being an "apple" shape even after losing some weight. Happy shopping! 🌹

I'm happy to see the return of bootcuts - I've worn them all along, but hopefully now they will be easier to find.

Couldn't care less whether they look dated or not, having said that people here (NZ) wear whatever jeans they want, and no-one gives a toss - well not in this part of the country anyway.

MsSweary · 30/08/2020 07:21

I have a waist and hips and no matter what I've done in the past my saddlebags are here to stay. At 60 I have no fucks left to give.

I wear Gap selvedge girlfriend or Diesel Fayza boyfriend jeans but I've also got some Levi 701's which are somewhere between a wide straight and a wide leg IYSWIM. Also Levi barrel legged too which I quite like.

But I think there is a trend for bootleg jeans, I'm seeing more and more adolescent and young women in them.

BigBlondeBimbo · 30/08/2020 07:42

dragon

The most common way I have seen them styled, is high waisted, often with a belt and top tucked in. But there have also been more boho looks, with tops and shirts untucked, which is what I will be going for. Shoes, I have seen platform sandals, trainers and boots. I read an article which says they should be worn too short, but I'm not keen on that. Have a Google or look on pinterest or instagram if you have those. Look for bootcut jeans 2020 (obviously you need the 2020 part)!

FWIW, I didn't think there was anything wrong with what you asked. I did find it funny when you said "I don't want to look like myself 15 years ago", and I was jokingly wondering what you looked like 15 years ago which made you never want to look like that again 😂! Was she in prison uniform? Omg what happened 15 years ago?? Obviously, that's not what you meant, but the way I read it was funny Grin!

DragonPie · 30/08/2020 07:53

Haha!

Actually I went around in a large bear costume. 😄 was that not the fashion?

Thanks for your reply. 15 years ago I didn’t have kids so probably looked a lot less tired! No mum tum and my hips were smaller!

BigBlondeBimbo · 30/08/2020 07:55

😂😂😂😂😂

Omg, yes! High fashion.

CalmConfident · 30/08/2020 07:57

I recently bought some high waist, wide leg jeans From next. I love them. I am an inverted triangle shape so wide leg suits me. However DH keeps saying “the 90s called and want their jeans back” however my stylish friend says they are great Grin

Wear what you like with a bit of attitude !

BigBlondeBimbo · 30/08/2020 08:19

From last year, but this made me laugh

www.google.com/amp/s/www.whowhatwear.com/amp/bootcut-jeans-trend

"Everybody needs to calm down about bootcut jeans. You're all going to be wearing them and it's going to be fine"

😂😂😂

Also, "we don't know what it is about bootcut jeans that means people hate them with the fire of a thousand suns" 😂😂😂.

It's truuuuuueeeee!!!

Asuitablecat · 30/08/2020 08:27

It's because people think they suit them. But unless you're the same shape as the models earlier, they really don't. They make people look like my little ponies (the 80s style ones).

ibblebibbledibble · 30/08/2020 08:27

Oh no, I’ve been wearing my bootcut jeans all the time! I had no idea they were now considered grumpy! 😃😩

ibblebibbledibble · 30/08/2020 08:27

Frumpy!! Not grumpy

BigBlondeBimbo · 30/08/2020 08:40

Ooooh snarky! Are you suffering from bootcut rage? It's ok cat, let it all out!
Asuitablecat · 30/08/2020 09:14

No, I wore them. And I remember being gutted when I couldn't find a pair in New Look for work, and the shop.assistant looking at me like I was seriously behind the times (2004). I was never going to wear skinnies cos I grew up in t h e baggy 90s. But I have seen the error of my waysSmile my personal trouser choice is a Katherine Hepburn wide leg style cos it suits me.

looperb · 30/08/2020 09:46

also trainers are massively in & bootcuts tend to look better with a heel. I love my trainers too much!

Like @DragonPie says trends of course are cyclical but when I see kids wearing the 90s look now they literally look exactly the same as I did when I was young. I was in Brighton yesterday & saw kids in tracksuit bottoms. baggy jeans, adidas/fila trainers, crop tops & vest tops. Some even had those little rectangular sunglasses on. Even footwear has a 90s slant eg square toe. I wear mom jeans but I'm not rocking a perm & a lovely patchwork sweater tucked in so I don't look like my mum in the 80s. Maybe it's because the last decade or so hasn't really had strong trends that define it all I can think of athleisure wear which leaned on the 90s anyway.

looperb · 30/08/2020 09:47

@onedayinthefuture I remember those! 🤣

cherrytree63 · 30/08/2020 10:04

Back in the 70/80s me and my horsey friends wore boot cuts, but they were more cow girl style then, super slim fit (and bloody tight before stretch denim was popular) then flared slightly just above the ankle to accommodate jodhpur/dealer boots.
They were always a couple of inches too long as when you were riding your knee bend took up some length.
I'd love to have some of those today, not what's sold today as boot cuts which look like flares to me!

Bella2020 · 30/08/2020 10:33

I think M&S do a slim bootcut and I find that very flattering, Next, too. You should wear what suits your shape & height. The number of women I've seen in skinny jeans who would look better in straight or bootcut jeans is unreal. Just following a trend isn't always the best thing.

BigBlondeBimbo · 30/08/2020 10:46
looperb · 30/08/2020 11:15

@BigBlondeBimbo don't trip over that excess fabric! 😆

BigBlondeBimbo · 30/08/2020 11:23

😂😂😂

WhatInFreshHell · 30/08/2020 11:26

I've worn them all along. They're the only style of jeans that suit me. They just seem to balance out my hips. I only ever wear them with heels though, I think they look odd on me with flat shoes.

Odile13 · 30/08/2020 11:32

I never stopped wearing bootcut jeans and trousers. I wear them with trainers / flat shoes. They have become very hard to find in recent years so it would be great if they started coming back in to most shops. I will also wear straight cut in M&S because I think they are a slight bootcut shape.

I don’t care if things I wear are unfashionable, I just wear whatever I want and think looks good on me!

Bwlch · 30/08/2020 11:38

I have a couple of pairs of New Look "Strut" bootcut jeans that I still wear with trainers. I've never liked the look of skinnies unless paired with boots.
