I’ve been furloughed so I’m watching far too much Netflix.

Anyway, I’ve just binged Life on Mars and I’m now on Ashes to Ashes, and can I just say that Gene Hunt makes me swoon. To quote a mumsnet classic, he gives me the fanny gallops!

I don’t even care if I’m being unreasonable Grin

Just rewatching LoM and then we'll start on A2A. They are both brilliant, DH watches them for the cars, and maybe Keeley Hawes. I completely agree about Gene Hunt, he's everything we are supposed to dislike but you just can't - I definitely had a crush on him when it was first aired.

Although Chris is just too sweet and dizzy, you've got to love him.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 01/05/2020 00:29

@blubberball
Life on Mars was a brilliant series
Have you watched Ashes to Ashes too?
If not doooo it otherwise you've only half watched Life on Mars Smile

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/05/2020 00:45

I was thinking about Making Out! Duhhh!

MidnightBlue28 · 01/05/2020 00:45

I also loved Phil with Ant Anstead when they did ‘For The Love Of Cars’

GrandTheftWalrus · 01/05/2020 00:46

I love them both. Cried buckets at the ending of A2A.

I love gene hunt as well. Even though hes old enough to be my dad.

The actor who played Ray replied to a tweet of mine. I was starstruck lol

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 01/05/2020 00:55

That's it Pyong. Couldn't remember the name.

AlovelybitofsquirrelJackie · 01/05/2020 08:18

Can you imagine the Relationships threads from Mrs Hunt?

I reckon the Gene Genie was a pussy cat at home and whilst you might not have have caught with a pinny on doing the washing up he probably had a shed he retreated to frequently when Mrs Hunt was one one'! 😂

VipFi · 01/05/2020 08:26

Totally agree! Love him and his comments make me laugh out loud despite being all wrong .. He's the epitomy of manliness somehow though.... Love the 70s and 80s themes and music too... Hope they do make a 3rd series and soon!

Fuss · 01/05/2020 09:00

Oh now off topic but Ant Antstead is just perfection. I love Wheeler Dealers these days.

IamaBluebird · 01/05/2020 09:31

Dont care what you do, just stay out of Camberwick Green Smile

MidnightBlue28 · 01/05/2020 12:29

@Fuss

Just for you...

@MidnightBlue28 thanks. He is quite delicious.

He spoke to me on Twitter once. That was a good day. I was also on a flight from LA to New York with him. I'm not a stalker honestly 😂😂

VQ1970 · 01/05/2020 15:38

This has inspired me to watch the second half of A2A again. After watching it the first time, I got a bit confused with the ending although I got the gist of it. I read up on it to get it clearer in my head with the intention of re-watching.

My husband hadn't seen it so we started it from the beginning but gave up halfway through A2A as he can't follow stuff like this and kept asking me questions so we had to keep pausing it so I could explain and it was a nightmare! He's not interested in it so I'm picking up where we left off and have the last 8 episodes to watch.

9 minutes in and I've already got a big smile on my face Smile

Hardtoknowwhat · 01/05/2020 16:01

I've tried to avoid spoilers in this thread as currently watching Ashes to Ashes for the first time. No idea why it passed us by first time around, currently half way through series 2 and absolutely loving it.
Going against the grain of this thread, I actually quite fancy John Simm who I'm seeing in a totally different light to everything I've seen him in previously.

Cam2020 · 01/05/2020 16:09

We've been watching this too. I'd say no swooning but he does make me laugh. Total anthisis to today's overly sensitive, sterilised, PC garbage with an overt agenda. I don't see how they're going to get away with some of that in the new series though?

MaggieFS · 01/05/2020 16:11

We're just watching Ashes to Ashes. Gene Hunt doesn't do anything for me, but as for the character with the 'tache and curlyish hair... Yep!
Any one else?
Or is it just pregnancy hormones!

StewPots · 01/05/2020 16:17

Was literally about to start a thread about Gene Hunt. Possibly had a few too many dreams about him and his Audi last few day whilst I've been bingeing Ashes 🙈🤣

I may have also ordered a few of the same style cold shoulder tops Keeley Hawes wears 😁 got Ashes fever!

TazSyd · 01/05/2020 16:21

Oh yes, I remember watching this about 10 years ago. I fancied him inexplicably too.

PiggyPlumPie · 01/05/2020 16:24

Loved them at the time and going to rewatch with DD when she's detected me a packet of Garibaldi's!

Love the Gene Genie.

Bananabixfloof · 01/05/2020 16:45

Keep trying to watch LoM and getting interrupted so I'm going to try again.
AtA on the other hand I binge watched and loved it. The chemistry, the comedy, probably one of the best things I've ever seen. I generally hate TV. It mostly bores me to tears, so this was something different to me.
And of course gene "my reputation precedes me" hunt was definitely top of the come shag me now list.

Hardtoknowwhat · 01/05/2020 17:42

Just re read my previous post. Obviously meant we're watching Life on Mars not Ashes to Ashes! Although, planning on watching that next, although had mixed reviews?

Gene Hunt. He indeed does make my fanny gallop. 😍

TazSyd · 01/05/2020 19:20

Ha, fanny gallop. I won’t be able to forget that Smile.
