I’ve been furloughed so I’m watching far too much Netflix.

Anyway, I’ve just binged Life on Mars and I’m now on Ashes to Ashes, and can I just say that Gene Hunt makes me swoon. To quote a mumsnet classic, he gives me the fanny gallops!

I don’t even care if I’m being unreasonable Grin

Yes, yes it is!

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/04/2020 20:13

And he's not a 70s throwback - it is the 70s!

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 30/04/2020 20:14

I almost gave up as well as found it weird

I persevered though and so glad I did . I have now watched LoM twice in a short time . One on my smaller screen and one on the TV as its on Netflix now. Ashes to Ashes is on Sky and also on Britbox but I don't have Britbox now.

maddiemookins16mum · 30/04/2020 20:15

Yep, and he had hoops for tea.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 30/04/2020 20:15

@Wishihadanalgorithm You are not alone .

Mwnci123 · 30/04/2020 20:15

I can see that:

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 30/04/2020 20:17

Ironically the initials of You Are not alone spells YANA. These were the words Face of Boe used in Doctor Who , in the episode of which John Sim aka Sam Tyler, becomes the Master .
After watching Life on Mars I can see how he got the role of The Master.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 30/04/2020 20:22

OMG first Gene Hunt
NowJohn Simm as The Master
This thread is making me come over all hot and bothered lol

Binglebong · 30/04/2020 20:29

Rewatched Life on Mars recently and still amazing. I was having Keely Hawkes overload when it came out (she was in EVERYTHING) and so I didnt get on with AtA. Is it worth trying again?

missmouse101 · 30/04/2020 20:30

Gosh, also getting all hot and bothered here....plenty of man there. Ooh!

MillicentMartha · 30/04/2020 20:40

I loved him in it. Didn’t fancy him until Ashes to Ashes as I rather fancied John Simm...

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 30/04/2020 20:42

YES!!! Sorry for shouting lol. I get you though, it took me a couple of episodes to properly get into Ashes to Ashes and thought it was going to be rubbish, but SO glad I stuck it out.
Without spoilering, it ties up everything in Life On Mars, absolutely brilliant.

This thread has inspired me to re-watch the series. Haven’t watched it since it was first on.

Mumof1andacat · 30/04/2020 20:54

Yes all over gene hunt. Currently rewatching ashes to ashes. Excellent :)

HuntingtonHaven18 · 30/04/2020 20:58

Yes I loved him in Life on Mars but Belgravia.... 🤢

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 30/04/2020 21:00

POTENTIAL SPOILERR
SPOILERRRR

To whoever it was who said they felt sad for ages after it finished, not just you Sad
Brilliant but way too moving!!!

Unworthie · 30/04/2020 21:07

Yep.
Also like John Simm in it but like The Master better.
May have rewatched both for these reasons only.
🤷

gluteustothemaximus · 30/04/2020 21:13

Me too. Fantastic show and idea though.

DressesWithPocketsRockMyWorld · 30/04/2020 21:27

YANBU at all. Fit. Swoony. Loved every bit of it.

Pull your knickers up and make us a cup of tea.

Thankssomuch · 30/04/2020 21:28

Phwaorgh yeah

burblish · 30/04/2020 21:29

I couldn’t get on with his hair in LoM but AtA short-haired Gene Hunt? Oh YES!

Joker123 · 30/04/2020 21:30

Yes! I’ve just finished the final series of Ashes to Ashes 😭
I love him 😂

mrsBtheparker · 30/04/2020 21:35

I don't disagree with these sentiments but am I the only one who finds it ironic that such a paragon from the 70s is everything that men are not allowed to be in the 21st century? Can you see him doing his share of the child care, changing nappies etc.??

mrsBtheparker · 30/04/2020 21:38

Yep, and he had hoops for tea

Rubbish! He had 'oops, especially when he was around Manchester and Bolton in Ashes to Ashes. We saw them filming some scenes around Bolton.
