Weird comments from DH

DD15 went shopping today, when she got back DH and I asked to see what she got. One of the items was a dress that was just above knee length. I told her it was lovely etc etc. DH, on the other hand, said “I’d like it if you weren’t my daughter” Confused. DD and I both found this really weird. He can’t see the problem. Am I being to sensitive?

What do you find weird about it? He maybe thinks it is a pretty dress but isn't keen on his daughter wearing it because of the length. Sounds like a typical dad to me! Lol.

breakingthebank · 02/02/2020 21:41

Can't he see how pervy that sounds?

kittykatkitty · 02/02/2020 21:42

I think it makes him sound sleazy

puds11 · 02/02/2020 21:42

Oh good. A man perpetuating the sexualisation of women through clothing choices. He’s gross.

Sparklyring · 02/02/2020 21:42

Weird and creepy.

SunOnAll · 02/02/2020 21:43

It is a weird and creepy comment. He really can't see what's wrong with it?

TheNoiseHurts · 02/02/2020 21:43

Hang on, might be mean that he doesn't think it's appropriate for HIS daughter?

As in, id like the dress if it wasn't on you.

(But it is on your so I don't like it because it's too short)

Kind of thing?

Probablygreen · 02/02/2020 21:43

I don’t think I’d read too much into that to be honest. I’d hear it more like ‘you’re growing up too fast’ than the other explanation, although I can see where others are coming from. If he’s normally a nice dad and man I’d think it was an off the cuff remark

TheDarkPassenger · 02/02/2020 21:44

Ohhh I didn’t read it as pervy. Now I do and I can’t unsee it.

Maybe he didn’t realise either?

Pushmepullyou · 02/02/2020 21:44

I don’t like it. It sounds like he’s saying he thinks she looks sexy. But she’s 15. And his daughter

WellHolyGodMiley · 02/02/2020 21:44

Yupp that is a bit eeeeoooow

Motherclucker01 · 02/02/2020 21:45

Well it depends how he meant it. As you know him and we don’t how did he mean it?

BlingLoving · 02/02/2020 21:45

Melania, is that you, hun?

Mamato2gorgeousboys · 02/02/2020 21:45

I would have taken his comment to mean that the dress a bit too sexy or for someone a few years older than dd as she’s only 15. It didn’t shout sleazy to me tbh.

Elieza · 02/02/2020 21:45

He either means it’s too tight/revealing/short.
On the hanger it looks sexy.
Not on his daughter though as he doesn’t think of her like that.
Thank fuck.

Nubbled · 02/02/2020 21:45

yuck

Redshoeblueshoe · 02/02/2020 21:46

So it's alright for some other young woman to wear, but not Dd

Send him to bed, and make him think about what he's said . . . . .

pelirocco123 · 02/02/2020 21:48

I would think he is trying to protect his daughter

You lot are weird

Squidgyflump · 02/02/2020 21:48

My initial thought is as @thenoisehurts suggested.

He would like it if not on his daughter because he doesn't want her getting male sort of attention

MistyMinge2 · 02/02/2020 21:51

I don't get pervy from that. I think it's a dad who's not keen on his daughter wearing a short dress. I find it odd that everyone is thinking it's sexual. Yuck.

Wineiscooling · 02/02/2020 22:01

I think too much overthinking going on here! In my eyes he just meant he doesn't like his daughter in short skirts. I'm sure a lot of Dads must have that moment when they see their baby suddenly grown up and wearing little dresses and it makes them uncomfortable thinking about their little girl going out dressed like that for other men to oogle. Nothing pervy about it In my eyes.

Firecarrier · 02/02/2020 22:08

I agree, but this is Mumsnet Wink

MintyMabel · 02/02/2020 22:10

The kind of attention he would give some other woman if she were wearing it? And you think that makes it better?

Nothing pervy about it In my eyes.

Except for the bit where he would like to see a woman who wasn’t his daughter wearing it? That doesn’t require overthinking, it was actually what he said.

AutumnRose1 · 02/02/2020 22:13

Yuck
