Weird comments from DH

DD15 went shopping today, when she got back DH and I asked to see what she got. One of the items was a dress that was just above knee length. I told her it was lovely etc etc. DH, on the other hand, said “I’d like it if you weren’t my daughter” Confused. DD and I both found this really weird. He can’t see the problem. Am I being to sensitive?

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 02/02/2020 22:14

Yeah that's not cool and would give me the ick. Basically he said I'd like to see other women in that as I find it sexy, 🤮

levelone · 02/02/2020 22:17

I don't see it as weird. I read it as he likes the dress but not on his daughter as she will be his little girl.
Op, is there anything else concerning you about his behaviour towards your daughter?

Queenoftheashes · 02/02/2020 22:17

Ew

DecemberSnow · 02/02/2020 22:17

I just see it, As in,

Its nice but not for my daughter to wear

74NewStreet · 02/02/2020 22:20

Of course it’s not pervy Confused. He thinks it’s too grownup for his 15 year old daughter.

Panpastels · 02/02/2020 22:28

No I'm not getting pervy from this. His daughter is wearing a dress that he associates with being on a grown woman.

Eckhart · 02/02/2020 22:34

Ew. He's phrased that really badly. His comment intimates at things he finds sexy; totally irrelevant and inappropriate when commenting on his daughter's outfit.

2weeones · 02/02/2020 22:39

He isn't being pervy it's just a saying. I have heard it loads. It just means it's too old/revealing for his young daughter. People on mumsnet are very weird!!

MorganKitten · 02/02/2020 22:42

He’s uncomfortable with his dad looking sexy

WorraLiberty · 02/02/2020 22:44

I think it's blatantly obvious he's saying it's too short/too revealing/or too grown up etc Confused

Now whether you think that's an old fashioned view or whatever is one thing, but seeing it as pervy in some way is quite another.

theThreeofWeevils · 02/02/2020 22:45

He’s uncomfortable with his dad looking sexy

And wouldn't we all be Grin

I think the OP is overthinking and it was only a "nice dress but over my dead body are you going out wearing that, young lady" sort of thing. (but that's probably him being controlling, of course)

Babyg1995 · 02/02/2020 22:45

FFS he finds his daughter sexy what a ridiculous comment .it means he doesn't think it's appropriate for his 15 year old daughter honestly MN gets more bizarre .

Ratasha · 02/02/2020 22:45

Can someone explain the issue with this to me?

OlaEliza · 02/02/2020 22:46

Pervy as fuck imo. Yanbu op.

marie2020 · 02/02/2020 22:48

I don't find it that weird. The thread of comments here are over exaggerating it.
He maybe thinks it is a pretty dress but isn't keen on his daughter wearing it because of the length. That's all

Sunflower20 · 02/02/2020 22:49

Urgh

Weirdomagnet · 02/02/2020 22:49

BlingLoving

Melania, is that you, hun?

It so is 😂🤮

HelloHelloHelloHelloHelloHello · 02/02/2020 22:50

This is such a weird thread.

I read it to mean that he thinks it's nice, but not for his daughter (haven't dad's often been that way about their daughters?...)

I am more concerned that you have this weird opinion of your husband?? Do you think he'd say weird things in a weird way?? Why would you think that? Has he changed since you married him? And r u and your daughter discussing this about him?? ..

All rather odd...

beckywiththeshithair20 · 02/02/2020 22:51

I read it as 'it's a nice dress but not on my daughter' as in it's too short. Most dads wouldn't be happy about their teenage daughters wearing something revealing. I'm not sure if there's a more sinister undertone there but that's how I read it Confused

I think calling him gross and pervy is a bit much

ElloBrian · 02/02/2020 22:52

Skeezy remark.

He needs to get more comfortable with dealing with his daughter growing up and expressing his views about what’s appropriate without unnecessary sexualisation.

He’s not one of those men who expects a prospective son in law to ask ‘permission’, is he?

SunshineDays2019 · 02/02/2020 22:53

I think it's a typical dad comment, not pervy at all.

june2007 · 02/02/2020 22:55

Perfectly reasonable to me.

BrendasUmbrella · 02/02/2020 22:55

Oh good. A man perpetuating the sexualisation of women through clothing choices. He’s gross.

This. It would be fine for another teenage girl to wear it, because he could enjoy it on her, but not on his daughter. OK...

Thehop · 02/02/2020 22:56

Was it

“I’d ike the dress if it wasn’t on my daughter”

Or

“I wish you weren’t my daughter so I could fancy you” ?

2 ways to interpret that

TheGirlWithAPrince · 02/02/2020 22:56

i didnt read it in a pervy way i read it in a i dont like my DD wearing something so short way
