Is beer a man's drink?

I don't think it is but I was buying some real ales for Xmas and the woman at the till asked if I was buying beer for my husband. When I said it was for me she was almost shocked that I wanted beer - 'Wouldn't you rather have a glass of wine?'

YABU - it's a man's drink
YANBU - it's for anybody

She’s stupid , probably thinks only women drink Prosecco too

SomewhereInbetween1 · 13/12/2019 18:08

Bollocks to her. A cold beer at the end of the day cannot be topped. It's heaven.

FGSJoanWhatsWrongWithYou · 13/12/2019 18:08

The beer I'm drinking while listening to R4 PM with DS2 says it is definitely a drink for this woman.

randomchap · 13/12/2019 18:09

If beer is a man's drink then are there women's drinks that blokes are not allowed?

NoMoreSexyTime · 13/12/2019 18:09

Love a nice real ale, had a lovely porter today. I don't like sweet drinks or anything too gassy so beer is usually a good choice.

AllergicToAMop · 13/12/2019 18:11

We used to have this problem when going out. I drunk beer my now DH vodka and lemonade. 99% of the time I was given his drink and vice versa 🙄
Mate drinks wine. Same story there...

rhubarbcrumbles · 13/12/2019 18:11

I suppose some men would turn their noses up at a pretty cocktail but then so would I.

Currently enjoying a Rev James Original and very nice it is too, supermarket woman would probably be mortified that it's straight from the bottle and not in a glass.

As a beer drinker, I've definitely come across this attitude before! YANBU
In my experience, men are the worst for it. Either that or you get a leery I like a woman who drinks pints 🤮

formerbabe · 13/12/2019 18:13

I detest beer... absolutely vile.

I see my drink as an extension of my I prefer something ladylike

But I do hate beer but drink what you want obviously

JustOneSquareofDarkChocolate · 13/12/2019 18:13

It is not imbibed through a penis so no, it's not a man's drink.

PepePig · 13/12/2019 18:13

Love beer. Hate wine.

TerrifiedandWorried · 13/12/2019 18:14

Yes, it can only be drunk through a pizza.

coldwarenigma · 13/12/2019 18:14

DS2 and DIL went out to a bar, ordered a pint and a large wine, the waitress brought it to the table and put the beer in front of him and wine in front of his wife. Silently DS swopped the glasses round..the waitress looked and stuttered an apology...

marchingonwithmother · 13/12/2019 18:15

My ex used to drink Pernod and lemonade. Mines a pint 🤷🏽‍♀️

thistimelastweek · 13/12/2019 18:15

Small sherry for the lady?
Nope, mine's a pint

Queenoftheashes · 13/12/2019 18:17

Didn’t women used to be in charge of making the beer then men stole it?

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2019 18:17

I hate beer/ale and can't drink a pint of anything, but everyone can drink what they like as far as I am concerned.

rhubarbcrumbles · 13/12/2019 18:17

Oi! I nearly spilt my beer then Grin

I used to order pints in the pub a few years ago about 30 years ago and the looks of horror were something else.

I can remember 40 years ago it was still regarded as a men's drink - at my aunt's Christmas meal the men were given beer, the women, sherry, and this was thought normal. Then when pubs did start serving it to women, they pulled silly stunts like only serving in a half pint glass.

I gained a certain kudos in my student days by being able to down a pint in one. Don't really like the stuff now, never drink it.

KatherineJaneway · 13/12/2019 18:19

To me it is. To others, it might not be.

WizzyBee · 13/12/2019 18:19

I bought a pint in a pub and the bloke standing next to me actually said something you know that's a pint?'

No, my fluffy lady brain thought it was Prosecco and how am I going to pick this huge glass up with my tiny laydee hands?

Nquartz · 13/12/2019 18:19

I've been on nights out with women who drink beer but only in halves as that's more ladylike apparently Hmm

PlinkPlink · 13/12/2019 18:21

Wine makes me way emotionally unstable so no, no wine for me thanks.

Cider is my drink if choice. Much more tasty.

I also love a good strong cocktail.

formerbabe · 13/12/2019 18:22

It sounds ridiculous but I would be embarrassed to stand in a bar or pub holding a pint...I know it makes no logical sense but I can't help it. I have zero judgement on women who do btw.

Sparklesocks · 13/12/2019 18:22

You have to be quite insecure to avoid a certain drink because you’re so worried only certain people can have it! Sounds exhausting.
