Ranty rant....

I have a colleague. Lets call him Roger. Roger is in his early 20's. Roger left school at 16 with few GCSE's (I know this because he often makes jokes about it) but works with us in a senior professional environment. The environment he works in consists either of graduates or people with 20+ years of experience and have 'risen through the ranks'. Roger's dad however is the MD. Roger lives at home still in what I can make out to be a 'wing' of the house (has his own bedroom, bathroom, snug area). He pays keep for this, admittedly I dont know how much, but sees this as employing his mother to be his servant. For example, his mother makes him a packed lunch every morning. If for any reason she can't do this he will buy a subway and present the receipt to her for a 'rebate'. That is Rogers circumstances.

Now Roger has some questionable views. A couple of months ago we got into a discussion on how homelessness has gone up recently and has become much more visible. Roger was of the opinion the every homeless person is in that situation because they deserve to be. That 'no-one doesn't have family they can stay with', and 'anyone can get a job'. I tried gently to argue this but was banging my head against a quite hostile brick wall so gave up.

Since then I've kept my silence. Quite literally. I've sat through 'people are too offended these days', 'Me too movement is just attention seeking' and various other delights.

Today we (like most offices in the country) are talking of the election. Now Roger doesn't like labour. Fair enough. Roger expands on this about people being entitled and wanting everything for nothing, that why should the rich pay for poor peoples 'lifestyle choices'. He goes further as he thinks tax should decrease with salary to 'incentivise people to get off their arses'. He then comes out with the gem that minimum wage increases will encourage people not to do well in their education and settle for dead end jobs. Just as a reminder this man left school with few qualifications and in any other company would have, well never been employed.

He does this with a straight face. I'm sitting there seething. I can't say anything, he's the bosses beloved only son.

Arrogant, privileged, little prick. Gah…. I've wanted to say that all day.

Kill him.

I'll hold your coat.

BelleSausage · 25/11/2019 18:26

YANBU- have a gin. Must be torture. I couldn’t stop myself from saying something!

Sexnotgender · 25/11/2019 18:27

And breathe...GinGin

He sounds like a knob.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 25/11/2019 18:27

Actually I wonder if it's the "Roger" I worked with. This particular Roger came to the company Christmas party in a helicopter.

RuggerHug · 25/11/2019 18:28

Urgh. Dramatic eyeroll and 'of course dear, that's exactly how the world works'

MitziK · 25/11/2019 18:28

Get a new job.

Then you're free of the spoiled little twat forever.

TheTrollFairy · 25/11/2019 18:29

Does his dad know he’s a twat?

He needs to speak to homeless people who are there through depression as their whole family got wiped out in a tragic accident or the guys suffering with PTSD through fighting in a war and are on their arses because they cannot get access to mental health facilities.

AdoptedBumpkin · 25/11/2019 18:29

He does indeed sound like an entitled little squirt.

MargeryB · 25/11/2019 18:30

'why should the rich pay for poor peoples 'lifestyle choices' I wouldn't be able to resist saying 'like your parents do for you?'

sarahC40 · 25/11/2019 18:30

Is there a patio at work?

Shookethtothecore · 25/11/2019 18:33

How big is the company? Could you speak to his dad?

IceCreamConewithaflake · 25/11/2019 18:33

Just bide your time and karma will do its thing...

WeakAsIAm · 25/11/2019 18:34

Is there a patio at work?

Do you think it's time to suggest the installation of one ??GrinGrin

You of course were with me all night, we watched I'm a celebrity, you never left the house. Never heard of a roger

Coldemort · 25/11/2019 18:34

I've had many imaginary conversations where I hand my notice into his dad and tell him exactly what I think of his son. However, being acutely aware that without a salary in a few months I could face homelessness myself I just give myself a stomach ache instead.

I have the wine open.... and as an aside I did mean squit and not squirt, but google tells me I'm making it up! Hopefully a regional thing...

What an absolute bellend.

JasonPollack · 25/11/2019 18:36

Christ what a little tosser. Alibi here should you need one!

nocluewhattodoo · 25/11/2019 18:36

DP has a fair few friends like this employed in large buisnesses due to their fathers being owner/MD etc despite them being totally unsuited/ undeserving for the roles. They all have minimal qualifications and a few have been in trouble with the law, but of course daddy pays to make it go away. One in particular has a wing of the family home too, I wonder if he's the one you work with! They are so cosseted it's unbelievable - and because of this they have no idea about real life hence unsavoury views being expressed. The problem for you is even though this guy is an odious little shit he is never going to be let go. Nepotism should be illegal.

PowerToTheMeeple · 25/11/2019 18:37

If you need a hand @Coldemort I’ll happily help out Grin

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 25/11/2019 18:37

I think you need to make a Roger bingo card. Once you’ve crossed off all the squares, buy another bottle of gin.

raspberryk · 25/11/2019 18:39

Lol sounds like some people I have known in the past. No point engaging in it, but maybe once he's drained his parents coffers dry, kicked out of home and he finds himself unwelcome everywhere after months of sofa surfing he might get enlightened. I've seen it happen, just keep your fingers crossed for karma.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/11/2019 18:39

Is his dad like that? How embarrassing...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/11/2019 18:39

I'll stand watch... you'll not be seen!

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/11/2019 18:43

How can 7% of people think yabu? Clearly they are also called Roger.

MidnightBlue28 · 25/11/2019 18:43

I worked with ‘Roger’, he got an award at the Christmas party for managing to come in on time one day in the year... the day of the Christmas party!

wineisnecessary · 25/11/2019 18:46

Ha ha clearly the little p**ck would be nothing without mummy & daddy . God just think one day he will be your boss Shock .
