Ranty rant....

I have a colleague. Lets call him Roger. Roger is in his early 20's. Roger left school at 16 with few GCSE's (I know this because he often makes jokes about it) but works with us in a senior professional environment. The environment he works in consists either of graduates or people with 20+ years of experience and have 'risen through the ranks'. Roger's dad however is the MD. Roger lives at home still in what I can make out to be a 'wing' of the house (has his own bedroom, bathroom, snug area). He pays keep for this, admittedly I dont know how much, but sees this as employing his mother to be his servant. For example, his mother makes him a packed lunch every morning. If for any reason she can't do this he will buy a subway and present the receipt to her for a 'rebate'. That is Rogers circumstances.

Now Roger has some questionable views. A couple of months ago we got into a discussion on how homelessness has gone up recently and has become much more visible. Roger was of the opinion the every homeless person is in that situation because they deserve to be. That 'no-one doesn't have family they can stay with', and 'anyone can get a job'. I tried gently to argue this but was banging my head against a quite hostile brick wall so gave up.

Since then I've kept my silence. Quite literally. I've sat through 'people are too offended these days', 'Me too movement is just attention seeking' and various other delights.

Today we (like most offices in the country) are talking of the election. Now Roger doesn't like labour. Fair enough. Roger expands on this about people being entitled and wanting everything for nothing, that why should the rich pay for poor peoples 'lifestyle choices'. He goes further as he thinks tax should decrease with salary to 'incentivise people to get off their arses'. He then comes out with the gem that minimum wage increases will encourage people not to do well in their education and settle for dead end jobs. Just as a reminder this man left school with few qualifications and in any other company would have, well never been employed.

He does this with a straight face. I'm sitting there seething. I can't say anything, he's the bosses beloved only son.

Arrogant, privileged, little prick. Gah…. I've wanted to say that all day.

Roger voted leave because he hates immigrants and he will vote Tory because everyone can afford private healthcare.

Trewser · 01/12/2019 11:41

Roger sounds like a character in a bad novel. I had no idea people like him existed in RL.

Obligatorync · 01/12/2019 11:59

Roger is Boris Johnson.

PurpleCrowbar · 01/12/2019 12:57

I teach in an international school in a hot, sandy country.

It's literally a Future Roger Factory.

I mean, some of the kids are lovely, but there are gangs of braying lads being held up by an army of tutors writing their essays for them.

Once they're through with university - dad buys uni a new library not to kick Roger out - Roger doesn't know that there's already a library...

...Roger gets a corner office, a nice car, a long suffering secretary & a set of office toys to keep him out of mischief.

I would nod and agree with him.

"Yes, isn't it disgraceful that some people that some people take it easy at school and end up leeching off others. I read an article the other day that said that millennials are all dependent on their parents, how sad it must be not to grow up..."

He does, however, sound like the type not to notice a subtle hint if one punched him on the nose...

Coldemort · 03/12/2019 22:20

Forgot to give today's update...
Guinness and Ale are apparently 'lesbian drinks'. Unsure whether this is positive or not...

made redundant a week before his first two years was up so boss could put son in his job, DH found out today that son is earning same salary as he was fulltime, doing two days per week. Luckily son is knob with no technical knowledge at all, but he and his Dad will bring the company down between them with over 200 jobs!

BillywilliamV · 03/12/2019 22:31

Sorry, DH made redundant,..

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 03/12/2019 22:34

We need daily Roger updates @Coldemort at least until you finally snap and smack him round the head

Have just informed DH of 12 years that according to Roger he's a lesbian. He's quite surprised.

Coldemort · 03/12/2019 22:50

Ah... you've just prompted me that I've been very remiss in not informing my friend that shes been doing lesbianism wrong for the last 20 years smacks head
Although her wife is bisexual so should I be offering her a guiness/peach schnapps cocktail?
Thank goodness I have Roger to guide me though this sexuality based drinks system

At least he's in work to learn more about normal people. He's never known any different. This is best chance for you to enlighten him and make him be a better person.

LabourHere · 03/12/2019 23:14

Karma .... just wait OP! Watch and wait ....

Sforsh49 · 03/12/2019 23:30

@Coldemort @OnceUponAMidnightBeery my DH is also surprised he is a lesbian. Who knew? Thank goodness we have Roger to guide us via you OP!

Dolorabelle · 04/12/2019 13:18

I once knew someone like Roger (friend of a friend). He argued that anyone who REALLY wanted to could afford private education.

Unfortunately he was an adviser to the Minister for school education at the time ....

BlaueLagune · 04/12/2019 13:21

Roger is Boris Johnson

Grin Xmas Grin
MinesaPinot · 04/12/2019 13:50

Oh blimey, wait until I tell DH he's a lesbian!

Perhaps you can publish a book OP - 'The Wisdom of Roger'

Softskin88 · 04/12/2019 14:41

Roger has never been told “no” or had his views seriously questioned by Mummy and Daddy.

He is basically a “man-child”. DH worked with one of these and moved jobs because of it. Roger couldn’t be criticised at work because Daddy was the line manager. If something went wrong because of Roger’s ineptitude it was everyone else’s fault.

A “rebate” from Mummy because she didn’t make him a sandwich????

Someone who is still effectively a looked after adult child does not deserve to be entitled to an opinion IMHO! Crown Envy

Softskin88 · 04/12/2019 15:01

Order something embarrassing by post from a ”specialist”company eg inflatable rubber sheep. Order by typed letter sent in the post. Pay by postal order so it’s not traceable.

Have it delivered to Roger at the company’s address.

Sit back and enjoy the results.

peachescariad · 04/12/2019 15:05

Bet you a million this bloke is single.....

BiBiBirdie · 04/12/2019 15:08

Stapler to the nuts should do it

Nat6999 · 04/12/2019 15:21

Daddy isn't Jacob Rees-Mogg by any chance? He sounds just like a carbon copy. Have you got a lift shaft? Would be terrible if he stepped in the lift & ended up at the bottom. He seriously needs some arse kicking from the whole workforce & a big reality check, what will he do if ever daddy's business goes tits up? He wouldn't get another cushy job like he has now.

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 04/12/2019 15:21

I told DH he's a lesbian. He said, "well, I am attracted to women..."

MarianaMoatedGrange · 04/12/2019 15:40

Have just informed DH of 12 years that according to Roger he's a lesbian. He's quite surprised.

But you had your suspicions.......

Coldemort · 04/12/2019 16:01

We got onto refugees this afternoon. More specifically how we're a soft touch compared to the rest of the world. Granted I don't think Roger has a scooby what the difference between an economic migrant and a refugee is.

Dear Mumsnet I tried.

I gave him the numbers of refugees in Turkey compared to here. He stared at me for 5 seconds then continued exactly where he left off.

I am officially invisible
