Ranty rant....

I have a colleague. Lets call him Roger. Roger is in his early 20's. Roger left school at 16 with few GCSE's (I know this because he often makes jokes about it) but works with us in a senior professional environment. The environment he works in consists either of graduates or people with 20+ years of experience and have 'risen through the ranks'. Roger's dad however is the MD. Roger lives at home still in what I can make out to be a 'wing' of the house (has his own bedroom, bathroom, snug area). He pays keep for this, admittedly I dont know how much, but sees this as employing his mother to be his servant. For example, his mother makes him a packed lunch every morning. If for any reason she can't do this he will buy a subway and present the receipt to her for a 'rebate'. That is Rogers circumstances.

Now Roger has some questionable views. A couple of months ago we got into a discussion on how homelessness has gone up recently and has become much more visible. Roger was of the opinion the every homeless person is in that situation because they deserve to be. That 'no-one doesn't have family they can stay with', and 'anyone can get a job'. I tried gently to argue this but was banging my head against a quite hostile brick wall so gave up.

Since then I've kept my silence. Quite literally. I've sat through 'people are too offended these days', 'Me too movement is just attention seeking' and various other delights.

Today we (like most offices in the country) are talking of the election. Now Roger doesn't like labour. Fair enough. Roger expands on this about people being entitled and wanting everything for nothing, that why should the rich pay for poor peoples 'lifestyle choices'. He goes further as he thinks tax should decrease with salary to 'incentivise people to get off their arses'. He then comes out with the gem that minimum wage increases will encourage people not to do well in their education and settle for dead end jobs. Just as a reminder this man left school with few qualifications and in any other company would have, well never been employed.

He does this with a straight face. I'm sitting there seething. I can't say anything, he's the bosses beloved only son.

Arrogant, privileged, little prick. Gah…. I've wanted to say that all day.

'Roger' needs to leave home and find out what real life looks like.

My life! How do these bellends exist in this day and ave?

puds11 · 25/11/2019 19:13

‘Tell me again Roger, which university did you attend’ Grin

Littlemeadow123 · 25/11/2019 19:13

YANBU but I know from experience that its easier to just zone out when ever people like that open their mouth. If it makes you feel better, he'll inevitably fall of his high horse at some point, and it will be a long, hard agonising fall. And if he is like this all the time, he may find that there is a lack of people who want to help him to his feet.

mbosnz · 25/11/2019 19:13

Roger Bingo, and keep the thread updated with daily Roger Horror Updates.

Hold the glass, get a straw. . .

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 25/11/2019 19:14

Are you in a position to suggest to his dad what excellent PR it would be (and SUCH a FANTASTIC opportunity to give back to the community) for the company to forge strong supportive links to a local homeless charity?

WorraLiberty · 25/11/2019 19:15

Just because he happens to be the bosses son, doesn't mean you can't disagree with him.

The people who won't and just sit by in silence, are just enabling him.

Elieza · 25/11/2019 19:15

I hope your thirty year old colleague retorted “well at least I’m not working on daddy’s company because nobody else would employ me”.

What an entitled little prick. Will probably marry a broodmare and have loads of posh children. Sigh. I’m picturing Tim Nice But Dim from Harry Enfield crossed with his other character whose name escapes me but keeps saying he’s “considerably richer than yowe”. Thick but arrogant. No consideration or empathy.

He should be sent to work on the developing world building wells or toilets. See how he’d cope with that. At least it would help others less fortunate than himself. Prick.

Sigh.

Roger will probably struggle to get a girlfriend/boyfriend, which hopefully means he won't reproduce. He sounds like an utter tosser and I, too, will give you an alibi, should you choose to drown him in the Christmas punch bowl.

Longdistance · 25/11/2019 19:18

Is Rogers father the MD like this?

Be in the comfortable knowledge that Roger would never get a job in the real world and that daddy had to give him a job. Little turd.

mummmy2017 · 25/11/2019 19:18

Work the word FOCUS into conversation it is so easy , then really your saying this to his face ..

This inspired me to see what came up if I typed 'fuck off Roger' into Google. It appears someone else has already met him and created this.

Also in awe of @WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles 😊

crosstalk · 25/11/2019 19:21

SheSnaps good idea. And get the twerp into planning meetings with his parents. Unfortunately they are potentially all of one mind.

HurricaneWitch · 25/11/2019 19:21

I feel for you, OP. He sounds like an obnoxious little shit.

I can't stop laughing at him giving his mother the receipts for his Subway lunches though. The bloody nerve.

Jasonh · 25/11/2019 19:23

From his narcissistic perspective its pretty hard to imagine that other people aren’t as privileged as himself. Your background and net worth doesn’t determine your ability to empathise with other people.
Personally I’ve always found that people who go through hardship are wiser and more humble, if they choose to see the experience as a lesson.

This guy is just a little kid, honestly what does he know? He was 12 ten years ago!

If he isn’t bullying you or making your life difficult, just accept that it takes all sorts and get some decent headphones :)

Cauliflowerhead · 25/11/2019 19:28

Oh we have a roger - or did. He left today. No one got him a leaving card. I was cringing Grin

Pinkflipflop85 · 25/11/2019 19:29

@SideEyeing that picture has made my day!

Alsohuman · 25/11/2019 19:31

This is probably how the Rees Mogg kids will turn out. No idea how you bear it, you’re a better woman than me.

Spitsandspots · 25/11/2019 19:32

SideEyeing

Brilliant Grin

itsgettingweird · 25/11/2019 19:35

Wow.

Roger is clearly an arse.

I'd think if have to look him in the eye and say "you're right. Everyone who does badly at school can get a role well beyond their qualifications because their father is the MD. I do t know what these people are moaning about!"

Mammatino · 25/11/2019 19:36

Tit heads like him have to exist so we can have the mother Theresa's of this world. Ying and yang. Deep breath then laxatives in the tea.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 25/11/2019 19:36

I think you should get this moved over to the feminist boards, OP. We’re fucking brilliant at raising money for feminist causes and hiring a hitman to get rid of roger, in case he marries some poor woman, would surely be a cause worth fighting for.

Coldemort · 25/11/2019 19:37

@HurricaneWitch oh theres loads more of them. Mum shrunk a football shirt (that she had bought him as a birthday present) so he presented her with a receipt for a new one. Mum cooked something using an ingredient he didn't like so he gave her the choice of cooking him a new meal or 'rebating' the cost of a take-away.
