Ranty rant....

I have a colleague. Lets call him Roger. Roger is in his early 20's. Roger left school at 16 with few GCSE's (I know this because he often makes jokes about it) but works with us in a senior professional environment. The environment he works in consists either of graduates or people with 20+ years of experience and have 'risen through the ranks'. Roger's dad however is the MD. Roger lives at home still in what I can make out to be a 'wing' of the house (has his own bedroom, bathroom, snug area). He pays keep for this, admittedly I dont know how much, but sees this as employing his mother to be his servant. For example, his mother makes him a packed lunch every morning. If for any reason she can't do this he will buy a subway and present the receipt to her for a 'rebate'. That is Rogers circumstances.

Now Roger has some questionable views. A couple of months ago we got into a discussion on how homelessness has gone up recently and has become much more visible. Roger was of the opinion the every homeless person is in that situation because they deserve to be. That 'no-one doesn't have family they can stay with', and 'anyone can get a job'. I tried gently to argue this but was banging my head against a quite hostile brick wall so gave up.

Since then I've kept my silence. Quite literally. I've sat through 'people are too offended these days', 'Me too movement is just attention seeking' and various other delights.

Today we (like most offices in the country) are talking of the election. Now Roger doesn't like labour. Fair enough. Roger expands on this about people being entitled and wanting everything for nothing, that why should the rich pay for poor peoples 'lifestyle choices'. He goes further as he thinks tax should decrease with salary to 'incentivise people to get off their arses'. He then comes out with the gem that minimum wage increases will encourage people not to do well in their education and settle for dead end jobs. Just as a reminder this man left school with few qualifications and in any other company would have, well never been employed.

He does this with a straight face. I'm sitting there seething. I can't say anything, he's the bosses beloved only son.

Arrogant, privileged, little prick. Gah…. I've wanted to say that all day.

YANBU but there's not much you can do.

WishICouldThinkOfAGoodName · 26/11/2019 15:14

I’ve been in a work situation exactly like this... it’s so frustrating as there is nothing you can do. What a little entitled fucker. Feeling your pain OP.

Coldemort · 26/11/2019 15:30

OH......
Go and get the wine!!!!

Ratonastick · 26/11/2019 15:57

I worked with a Rogina. She was a nice enough girl until, for some unknown reason, she was appointed to the Board. It was a meteoric rise from a mid level, non-management position so she didn’t have a fucking clue. She promptly sacked just about everyone who did have a fucking clue and has run her Dad’s company into the ground in 5 years. The tragedy is that she is still held up as an example of female promotion and advancement in a very male dominated industry.

Inebriati · 26/11/2019 16:19

Oh god he's a right wing MRA. Shapiro is the knob who introduced the word 'destroy' into the vocabulary of mediocre men.

Roussette · 26/11/2019 16:50

This Roger is getting worse and worse! Shapiro is an arse.

Losingcontrol · 26/11/2019 22:41

Someone at DH’s company once asked their Roger’s Dad who is getting on, if Roger would take over the company after he retired.

Roger’s Dad was heard to say very quietly ”over my dead fucking body” Grin

johnlennonsglasses · 26/11/2019 22:43

Roger needs a boot in the fucking hole

Wincher · 26/11/2019 22:47

Oh god. I line manage my MD's daughter and whilst there can be irritations, such as conversations getting back, it's nothing on this scale. Am counting my lucky stars now!

BBInGinDrinking · 26/11/2019 23:06

Could it be possible that dear Roger's parents have put him into this situation at work in the realisation that he is an entitled little squit and in the hope that it will be the real world kick up the backside he needs?! I am aware of parents who did that with their own dear Roger.

MindyStClaire · 26/11/2019 23:07

I used to work for a family company. We were onto our second generation of Rogers.

We then heard the youngest Roger's sister was doing a degree that would mean she could work in our department.

I left. I have no regrets.

LittleMissTeacup · 26/11/2019 23:12

Why would you kill him?! This is the gift that just keeps giving! Oh OP - please could I request a “Roger says” a day for the rest of this week?!
Ever tempted to get him confident enough to say this stuff in front of clients? Preferably whilst dad is there?

justilou1 · 26/11/2019 23:20

Have you batted your eyelashes at Roger and asked what a link is yet? Pretty sure “birds” don’t know how to work the interwebs thingy.

katmarie · 26/11/2019 23:24

I worked with a Roger. He held the record for both customer complaints and driving offences in company vehicles. He was a twat. His dad was also. No court in the land would convict you.

Coldemort · 28/11/2019 14:23

I would post an update but Roger fucked off for his lunch 2 hours ago and hadn't been seen since....

BottleOfJameson · 28/11/2019 14:28

I know someone like that. Married and divorced a very rich woman and made a load of money out if it now likes to hold court about how anyone could make themselves rich if they only tried harder.

Confusedbeetle · 28/11/2019 14:32

He has a lot of growing up to do and his parents are making it worse. Needs a dose of real life

berryhigh · 28/11/2019 14:34

He sounds vile. Parents very much to blame too though.
All sympathy to you!

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 28/11/2019 14:50

I'd stick with Roger if I were you @Coldemort - with that level of; intelligence, charisma and exemplary views he will probably grow up to be President.

shearwater · 28/11/2019 14:50

Even though he is the bosses son you don't have to sit silently and agree with his views.

Coldemort · 28/11/2019 15:01

Or indeed Prime Minister!

How do 4% of people think you are being unreasonable?

Is that you Roger? voting repeatedly on your 2 hour lunch break?
