Baylis & Harding is shit isn't it?

It's all I see in the shops, beautifully packaged and expensive sets. However having sampled them I am always left underwhelmed.

The bottles look like they've been made as cheaply as possible. They buckle the moment you've opened them.
The fragrances are so minor as to be virtually unnoticeable.
Same with the creams and body lotions.
They always seem all style and no substance.

Or am I being unreasonable?

As an aside they are among the most donated unused items our charity gets for raffles. So they do have a use Grin

Yep can't stand the stuff. Last year the cute packaging had cute gingerbread men in but I'd never buy it for anyone and worse still I'd hate to receive it

MotherWol · 05/11/2019 14:29

The orange & grapefruit B&H is a decent copy of MB's orange & bergamot, but I'd definitely decant it into a different handwash dispenser, because the pumps always break. Plus, it looks posher that way!

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2019 14:30

I have molten brown ginger Lilly hand soap and lotion in my downstairs loo and I also have the shower gel, it's lovely. Very strongly scented and quality product,

I have Baylis and Harding in my kitchen, hand soap, and it's genuinely cheap shit. I'm astounded some folks can't tell the difference.

Chloe84 · 05/11/2019 15:15

@ShirleyPhallus

Expensive?! They’re really cheapo, our local pound store sells them!

Well the set with a gown and set is £45 so it’s not all Poundland stuff.

I do buy the B&H hand wash but I’ve never tried the smellies.

Dowser · 05/11/2019 15:18

Wasn’t it expensive years ago and then the company got taken over

Chloe84 · 05/11/2019 15:22

What’s the new ‘country’ version called? Duck & Gizzard is something? That’s pricier then B&H but I’m guessing it’s the same company.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 05/11/2019 15:27

Every Christmas MIL buys me an absolute fuck-ton of B&H...always in enormous boxes, full of plastic packaging, designed to look much more expensive than it is but still obviously tat. Every year it sits in a cupboard until the school ask for donations for a raffle. I would honestly rather get nothing at all.

londonrach · 05/11/2019 15:30

They cheap. Poundland sells them so you get what you pay for. For £1 they ok

wondering7777 · 05/11/2019 15:42

It's not great - we have it in our office, which says it all. I'd prefer Carex!

EnFinale · 05/11/2019 16:05

There’s simply no fragrance to it at all.

mamandematribu · 05/11/2019 16:09

It's made cheaply and sold for a premium. Yanbu

shushymcshush · 05/11/2019 16:14

YANBU

Its nasty and despite England being printed on the front label in big capitals, its all made in China, including the gunk inside.

Always seems to smell like fly spray to me...

itwaseverthus · 05/11/2019 16:25

Awful stuff. I bought a bottle of the handwash once (and never again) in the supermarket. No lather, little scent, zero point to it. Definite case of buy cheap, buy twice. It went in the bin almost full.

SteelRiver · 05/11/2019 16:31

Crikey, I'm shocked at some of the comments here! I have bought a few sets in the past as gifts and for myself. I find it reasonably priced and this kind of thing always gets used up. I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at being given any of the sets as a gift either. I doubt I could afford Molton Brown!

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 05/11/2019 16:34

Ive been telling my BIL for the past 15 yrs to stop buying it for me at Christmas to no avail. He knows i have eczema and I've told him this countless times and yet, he keeps on giving. I CANNOT USE IT AND I DONT LIKE IT!

great for the school raffle though.

JenniferM1989 · 05/11/2019 16:36

They can't be a Molton Brown rip off as Baylis and Harding was established first and rolled out it's range first too 🙂

Amanduh · 05/11/2019 16:36

Expensive? When? 😂
I like their Christmas handwashes, they have cute designs, it’s just bog standard handwash, does the job.

JemSynergy · 05/11/2019 16:52

I always thought it was fake Molten Brown so have never purchased it for anyone.

JemSynergy · 05/11/2019 16:53

Molton Brown*

GG20 · 05/11/2019 16:59

The lavender hand wash is my favourite! Grin It cleans my hands, I like the smell and it's not expensive (I only buy it when it's on offer, which it usually is - never seen it in Poundland though, only Waitrose or Tesco!). Never tried the other products.

funkylittleboatrace · 05/11/2019 17:08

I love the smell of the Black Pepper and Ginseng,I wish other cheaper ranges did more manly scents everything seems to be unicorn or bubble gum scent drives me mad.

DawnOfTheDeadleg · 05/11/2019 17:10

It's a rip off of MB, which itself is fairly shite.

MegaClutterSlut · 05/11/2019 17:16

I get gifted a set every Christmas by DHS aunt. I normally end up selling it down the boot sale Blush

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 05/11/2019 17:52

It's not just that it's not very good quality, it's also the sheer ubiquitousness of B&H that makes it a bit of a disappointing gift. Several posters have already mentioned the Pound Shop, the Christmas aisles in all the Supermarkets are always full of it, it was always in the Boots 3 for 2 before they stopped that, plus every other High Street Chemist, Department Stores, Primark, Next...it's just everywhere. So when I get given a set for Christmas I assume the person giving it to me just grabbed the first thing they saw from the first shop they went in and put no thought into it whatsoever.

Youngatheart00 · 05/11/2019 18:07

Has boots stopped the 3 for 2 Christmas offer??!
