Baylis & Harding is shit isn't it?

It's all I see in the shops, beautifully packaged and expensive sets. However having sampled them I am always left underwhelmed.

The bottles look like they've been made as cheaply as possible. They buckle the moment you've opened them.
The fragrances are so minor as to be virtually unnoticeable.
Same with the creams and body lotions.
They always seem all style and no substance.

Or am I being unreasonable?

As an aside they are among the most donated unused items our charity gets for raffles. So they do have a use Grin

This made me chuckle as I have a dusty, old set someone Bligh me years ago that I have only just had to break into. The shower gel blobbed onto my hand and then blobbed straight down the plug hole. It doesn't lather up either.

Babybel90 · 05/11/2019 18:11

You’re not wrong OP. If someone bought it for me I’d assume they didn’t like me very much!

snozzlemaid · 05/11/2019 18:18

YANBU. I got a set years ago as a secret Santa and it smelt like washing up liquid. Horrid stuff.
My family are under strict instructions to never buy me any again.

keepingbees · 05/11/2019 18:21

Yanbu. My DH has got me this before. I've told him not to. I'd rather have a proper brand product from the pound shop than this stuff which is cheap over packaged crap. The shower gels always remind me of washing up liquid.

shushymcshush · 05/11/2019 19:00

@LordNotAgain haha yes the blobbing!

wizzywig · 05/11/2019 19:14

Come on, keep ferrero rocher out of this. If it's served at ambassadors receptions then its good enough for me

ThighThighOfthigh · 05/11/2019 19:27

How can I keep FR out of this? It's just so dishonest as a chocolate - a lie wrapped in foil. The gift that says I hate you.

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 05/11/2019 19:39

B and H do a rip-off of Philosophy as well now, don’t they? Sure I’ve seen it in supermarkets

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 05/11/2019 19:40

Answered my own question - this stuff. Is it any good?

The texture of B&H products is grim, they have the cheek to call it gel when it's more like flubber.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/11/2019 19:42

I now have the guilt about how overpackaged Ferrero Rocher is

www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-46535532

Although I do use an old 16 piece box to keep all my spare bank cards in.

I might have to do what I did to Green & Blacks years ago when the packs of mini bars came in a bigger cardboard box with a plastic tray inside so I wrote to them and said that I thought they were overpackaged and they replied to say that my comments were timely because they were just reveiwing the packaging and sent me a free pack of the new smaller cardboard only packing.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/11/2019 19:43

Send all the unwanted FR my way please. Smile

hazeyjane · 05/11/2019 19:46

Yes it's shit, trying to be fancy.

ThighThighOfthigh · 05/11/2019 19:47

I tell you what really infuriates me - alcohol scented handwash etc. Is it a great idea to go to the loo and come out smelling of gin and tonic?

morriseysquif · 05/11/2019 20:03

I love Ferrero Rocher and quite like a Bayliss and Harding set - the Mandarin and Grapefruit is divine.

I forgot that Mumsnetters are at the top of the income tree and would never stoop to anything other than premium chocs and smellies. Grin

Deedoubleyou · 05/11/2019 20:08

"YABU. One of their handsoaps is my favourite ever soapy smell. A brown blokey kind of smell - ginger and pepper or something. Haven't got a clue about the rest of their stuff as I've never used it."

I love this soap too, but I still think the gift sets are a bit naff.

ThighThighOfthigh · 05/11/2019 20:10

I won't not eat the FR, I'm not insane.

Ineedanamechange79 · 05/11/2019 20:11

Crap. I don't like Molton Brown either though!

Jeschara · 05/11/2019 20:13

I don't like it either. I can gets tons of the stuff in charity shops, especially after Christmas at a fraction of the price. Would not buy it though.

raspberryk · 05/11/2019 20:14

Duck & Gizzard I fucking hope that's what it's called pmsl.

@morriseysquif I wish, I am the dog shit under the income tree sadly, student and universal credit claimant here ... Still hate both FR and B&H

LordNotAgain · 05/11/2019 20:15

I forgot that Mumsnetters are at the top of the income tree and would never stoop to anything other than premium chocs and smellies.

That's bollocks, I love the £1 shower gels and hand soaps that are always on offer. I object to Baylis and Harding because their products don't even foam up! Got nothing to do with income and everything to do with actual quality.

thenightsky · 05/11/2019 20:19

B&H is mostly shite, apart from the black pepper and sage handwash and handcream. I'm addicted to the smell of it, but it seems to be discontinued now. Why, when it was the ONLY product that was worth buying?

As for Ferrero Roche, globs of Nutella, no more no less.

LaurieMarlow · 05/11/2019 20:19

I won't not eat the FR, I'm not insane.

ThighThighOfthigh · 05/11/2019 20:22

Nutella in weird communion wafer. I don't like Nutella.

LaurieMarlow · 05/11/2019 20:25

Nutella, with a hazelnut, in a wafer, covered in nutty chocolate. What’s not to like?

I’m not even much of a fan of wafer (hate kitkats for example) but in FR it’s perfect.
