It's all I see in the shops, beautifully packaged and expensive sets. However having sampled them I am always left underwhelmed.

The bottles look like they've been made as cheaply as possible. They buckle the moment you've opened them.
The fragrances are so minor as to be virtually unnoticeable.
Same with the creams and body lotions.
They always seem all style and no substance.

Or am I being unreasonable?

As an aside they are among the most donated unused items our charity gets for raffles. So they do have a use Grin

It's nothing special but it's not expensive so I wouldn't expect it to be - I think it's about as good as you'd expect for the price. It's just packaged to imitate Molton Brown, that's all.

TheNestedIf · 05/11/2019 12:48

The liquid hand soap isn't so terrible but what BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz said about the shower gel. I live in a hard water area and even using half a bottle it's impossible to get a lather that isn't like the aftermath of a small sneeze.

Youngatheart00 · 05/11/2019 12:48

Just a molton brown sheer rip off!

BlueStocking007 · 05/11/2019 12:48

It's awful. Ex SIL bought me a set every year, she knew I hated the stuff. She always got one back ( the one she bought me the year before) Grin

ThighThighOfthigh · 05/11/2019 12:48

They get shoved in the regifting cupboard here and I suspect end up in someone else's regifting cupboard. I wish people would regift me candles instead and I'll regift them all the body lotion and hand cream I keep in a box under my bed for regifting.

Itshouldneverhavehappened · 05/11/2019 12:49

Yep, it’s cheap and nasty.

LaurieMarlow · 05/11/2019 12:50

I agree with this. I’ve never understood the bile. It’s not something I buy, but each to his own.

raspberryk · 05/11/2019 12:53

Really hate getting these sets as a gift along with ferrero rocher, just don't bother.

WellTidy · 05/11/2019 12:53

I don't like their body moisturisers as I find them very runny and not at all moisturising. I agree that the shower gel is just gloop. I'd charity shop both.

I don't buy it for myself, but if I was given it, I would use their hand soap.

TuttiFrutti123 · 05/11/2019 12:54

Their midnight fig & pomegranate handwash at Christmas smells lovely. I'm hoping they stock it again this year in my local shop.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 05/11/2019 12:55

anything sold in supermarkets & pound shops etc is usually cheap/low quality.

If you want something nicer, go to a department store toiletries department, or look for the upmarket brands that have their own dedicated shops (eg Milton brown). These will be much pricier though.

ThighThighOfthigh · 05/11/2019 12:56

My ex H used to get me Ferrero Rocher - I really hate it, I'll gag it down but it's pointless. After several years I told him and he said - I know.

RoseToes · 05/11/2019 12:56

I only like their handwashes

Alicia9999 · 05/11/2019 12:56

As far as I remember their branding always copied Molton Brown, they are the Tesco version.

afternoonspray · 05/11/2019 12:57

Weird. I use both Baylis & Harding and Molton Brown and genuinely can't tell the difference between the two. I always thought it was just in the marketing. B&H are cheap and MB are expensive.

RhubarbTea · 05/11/2019 12:57

It pleases me that my exes mum, who was a twat and had delusions of grandeur, used to use it in her bathroom and thought she was being posh. She wasn't, it's cheap and nasty. Grin
Every time I see it in the shops I smile to myself and think how happy I am I am shot of ex and their family. I would never buy it. The fragrances are fake and ick and give me a headache.

LaurieMarlow · 05/11/2019 12:58

I like FR. MIL is a raging snob and won’t touch the stuff, so she gives it to me. Yay.

Bluntness100 · 05/11/2019 12:59

Th difference between Baylis and Molton brown is worlds apart. Genuinely.

AwkwardPaws27 · 05/11/2019 12:59

The handwashes are quite nice (good scents and feel nice to use) but I was really disappointed by the shower gel. No lather at all, just a jellified lump of uselessness.

DuckWillow · 05/11/2019 12:59

I should clarify that they are expensive for what they are rather than expensive per se.

I don't mind spending a lot if it's a quality product.

MoiraRose · 05/11/2019 13:00

I don't find it at all expensive. Quite the opposite, in fact!

I think it's ok if you're on a tight budget and cant actually afford Molten Brown Hmm

DuckWillow · 05/11/2019 13:02

Oh yes Ferraro Rocher (sp) . It's used to get a box every year from DHs grandfather: I don't like it but was always touched that he always bought me something. Luckily DS adores them Grin

Crazybunnylady123 · 05/11/2019 13:03

It’s absolute rubbish, I’d just chuck it away if I came across any.
So many lovely organic, cruelty free brands these days.
I love rummaging around tk maxx for something new!

CornishMade · 05/11/2019 13:05

I live abroad now, so wasn't familiar with B&H; but I remember a couple of years ago on my last trip home, I saw some (handwash?) in my DB's family bathroom. I thought it looked naice, and it was nearly empty, so I thought it'd be a nice thank-you present to get them some more. I wondered how much it was... then I spotted it in Sainsbury's and saw that it was very cheap! (So obviously I didn't buy it for their present.)

gromberry · 05/11/2019 13:06

Why is Ferrero Rocher being dragged into this?! They are lush!
