Mainly the brand changing its packaging to be trans friendly. Are we slowly eradicating womenhood? Along with " pregnant person". It feels such a slippery slope.

Or will the people they are so scared of offending be picking up the retail slack........ for their empathy cramps and all.

I'm pretty sure transmen and those who identify as non-binary are perfectly capable of experiencing actual cramps.

The obsession with vilifying transwomen on MN is bizarre.

@AtrociousCircumstance

I use Bodyform, I prefer them after switching from Always.

Always are fucking rank with that stench. Why would anyone want to advertise they're on their period with that nasty charity shop odour their pads have? Bleugh.

I hope this backfires on them massively, but I doubt it will because what women think doesn't seem to matter one fucking jot anymore...

What's wrong with supporting trans men when all it takes is not putting something on a packet that no one else gives a shit about anyway?

Fucking YES. I would put money on not a single person on this thread having even noticed the symbol before now.

Very interesting comments on this from India Willoughby today on Talk Radio with Matthew Wright. She says these activists pushing their hard agenda are making life harder for "ordinary" transfolk and was about as impressed as we all are

...Since "gender doesn't equal sex" is the new mantra of all right-thinking people (apparently), and the symbol for "female" refers to sex and not gender, this shouldn't really be an issue.

If you have a period, chances are amazingly good that you are currently occupying a female body. You can dress that body however you like, even take drastic measures to make the body look and behave like a male body, but it's still a female body, as evidenced by the fact that it has a menstrual cycle. How can a symbol that merely indicates "female" be offensive, under those circumstances?

There are some truly mind-boggling things afoot in the world today!

Ariela · 21/10/2019 23:14

Hahaha I thought this would be a thread about environmental enthusiasts bashing folk for using throwaway single use menstrual products (quite rightly IMO - cloth is SO much more comfortable)

Thanks Penny

I guess if enough women boycott them, they’ll care then alright...!

But then Willoughby was quite adamant on Woman's Hour that women who didn't shave their legs were 'dirty'.

I've actually never even seen a panty liner with a venus symbol on, I doubt very much I'll disappear in a puff of smoke if they're gone

But the woke brigade will disappear in a puff of smoke if they are confronted with a product that uses the traditional woman's symbol.

Poor dears.

So - the stuff they sell in Uganda burns off your undercarriage, and they don't listen when women tell them the ‘scent’ is vile and smells like air freshener (and gives some women a rash). But they take action because a person or two whines that it was hurty to see the Venus symbol on the packs.

Wtf always?

ThePrioryGhost · 21/10/2019 23:40

How come one trans person writes in and the manufacturer acquiesces at once, but when many thousands of women complain about the san pro being scented, precisely zero shits are given? Why don’t they listen to all their customers?

Report
pikapikachu · 21/10/2019 23:43

I bet that loads of women complain about the smell and "Have a Happy Period" tagline that they use(d?)

Why have t they gone for Tena Men? It has the word Men in it. Why not complain about Venus shavers? Loads of men's toiletries have the word men - Sure Men, Dove Men, Kleenex for Men, Nivea Men...

Come over to Bodyform, I moved from Always to them years ago before that awful fragrance stuff. Glad I did, I suffer from vulvodynia and dread to think what perfumey chemical crap would have done to my poor vulva...Bodyform are lovely and soft and they've just done a pure sensitive range (which I'm trying) with no allergens and definitely no fragrance.

Sing it with me, whooooooaaa Bodyform! Halloween Grin

Oh and Naturacare are also good, although a bit scratchier than BF, but no nasties either.

India is often at odds with the TRAs on trans issues.
The complaints from Kenya and Uganda are damning. It set me off down a rabbit warren of links about the lack of testing on sanitary products. It's absolutely shocking. There's a worrying lack of research on the health impact of towels and tampons, and of the materials that can be used in their manufacture.
Hey Girls work to combat period poverty so for posters concerned about it, you might want to check them out.

Yanbu. It's a complete denial of biology. It has nothing to do with "gender" . Whether or not someone has periods is to do with their biological sex . it's insane that are supposed to all ignore that basic scientific fact.

It's the final push I needed to invest in cloth pads instead.

The whole women from venus, men from Mars thing is marketing bollocks anyhow, mind.

Report
BanKittenHeels · 21/10/2019 23:56

I recently bought a nighttime pack (all that was in the hotel shop) which had the Venus symbol on it. They come in a black packet and the pads themselves are wrapped in white wrappers with blue symbols.
I usually use a mooncup but my period arrived unexpectedly early, so I had to make do.

I hate that woman, the mention of women, anything relating to us is being slowly removed as offensive.

Report
goldfinchfan · 22/10/2019 00:16

Why is are the trans lobby so powerful?
how can a person have so much power to alter packaging?

Really honest question I do not get it

I don't even get that it is offensive...Does that mean that being a woman is an offensive thing to be?

If you are bleeding because you have a period then you surely have to accept that your body is female even if your head says you are a man.

Report
WhatTiggersDoBest · 22/10/2019 01:03

And yet nobody has complained about Mars bars yet. Hmm
It really does feel like gender erasure aimed at females.
I wonder how many people have recurrent BV or thrush due to those scented pads? It's the first thing you're supposed to ditch if you get diagnosed with those. But obviously that's not a real problem because it's a women's problem.

The @Always Twitter account is littered with references and photos of girls. 🤔

Here’s a list of P&G brands, I shall be looking to other brands for my products I usually buy from p&G.
Always sanitary towels are vile smelling things that made me sore and I haven’t used them for a while anyway.
But as a pp said I’ve seen hundreds of women complain about the scent and how they hate it and nothing has happened. However someone on twitter stomps their feet about a symbol in the bloody packaging and they’ve jumped to attention and are removing it. Bloody bollocks!

I follow a brilliant YouTube ‘yoga with Adriene’ who is mentioned here on MN a lot...I got a generic email from her saying she was redoing a menstrual cramp yoga video to remove the word ‘gals’ (American) and other references as she didn’t want to offend her transgender subscribers.
