For asking to be called they/them?

Yanbu. 'They' is a ridiculous man.

WhistlingWilly · 15/09/2019 22:34

Yabu

BertsFriend · 15/09/2019 22:35

Yanbu, I think they is very sexist. They have said they think like a woman, and I couldn't help wondering which one...

AutumnCrow · 15/09/2019 22:37

He can think like my mum if he wants, and explain that to me.

gc400 · 15/09/2019 22:37

I know what non binary is, but I just think it's ridiculous.

OP posts:
Xitt · 15/09/2019 22:38

What annoys me most is that one person wants to be referred to as “they” which is plural! Surely the singular choices are he, she or it?

gc400 · 15/09/2019 22:38

How can someone feel male nor female? What else could you feel like?

OP posts:
Cleopatrai · 15/09/2019 22:38

YANBU

TheAlternativeTentacle · 15/09/2019 22:39

They has a new album out. So they needed a new campaign.

SciFiGirl · 15/09/2019 22:40

To me it just seems like it makes no sense. Confused “they” want one called this. Just doesn’t sound right. But it’s his choice, that’s his right

pinkstripeycat · 15/09/2019 22:40

Definitely not being unreasonable OP. It’s daft

HannahLee · 15/09/2019 22:41

He’s said that he’s a woman because he can’t lose weight in the same areas that women tend to gain weight...

He’s clearly a huge sexist.

Powergower · 15/09/2019 22:41

Yanbu!! We're being told we can change sex which is ridiculous enough and now it's a complete alteration and mistreatment of grammar. If he wants to use a pronoun why not 'it'? 'They' is just plain wrong.

LittleLostThing · 15/09/2019 22:41

It’s bloody ridiculous. He’s trying to pretend that he’s being brave and going where no one has before but he’s just being an attention seeking little tit. He’s determined to be the only gay in the village. When it’s pointed out that he didn’t actually invent homosexuality he decides to find another way to insist he’s the most oppressed.

ASandwichNamedKevin · 15/09/2019 22:42

It is not a personal pronoun so not much use for a person. We could do with a gender neutral personal pronoun. I'm a woman, happy to be called 'her', not happy to be called 'him' as I don't identify as male so I can understand not wanting to be referred to as something I don't feel.

'They' is a bit confusing as it's also plural but is already used if we don't know whether to say he or she. And we manage with you which can be singular it plural.

So regarding Sam Smith I say fair play to them.

hazeyjane · 15/09/2019 22:42

The whole crappiness of the grammar is down to the 'feels like 2 genders(+?)' thing....ie xxxx are both man and woman etc, so no longer a he or she, but a they.... I think.

Or not...who knows what the fuck is going on anymore, excpet that it is a pile of ol bollocks.

HannahLee · 15/09/2019 22:42

*But he does say coming out as non-binary has helped him become happier with his own body image.

"I am feminine in many ways and I've always resented that," he says.

"I'll never look like that because there's a bit of a woman in me who won't let me look like that. I put on weight in places women put on weight.

"That spring-boarded everything actually. That's me looking at myself and thinking maybe I'm not a man, maybe I'm not a woman, maybe I'm just me*

This is one of the most sexist and ridiculous things I have ever read

Deemail · 15/09/2019 22:43

It's beyond ridiculous, this line of thinking is psychological and needs to be treated as such.

EmmiJay · 15/09/2019 22:43

I wouldn't have the brain power to constantly correct myself if I was ever in his presence.

MisterT373 · 15/09/2019 22:44

Not been in the spotlight for a bit has he?

I cynic might say it was an attempt.to get some attention .

Duvetdazed · 15/09/2019 22:44

Attention seeking twerp with a nasally challenged whine of a voice, trying to get publicity for a new album, no doubt full of more miserable droning songs that are impossible to decipher the lyrics.

Campervan69 · 15/09/2019 22:45

YANBU it's utter nonsense

We are born male or female

People cannot change their biological sex

That's it as far as I'm concerned.

Getting a bit sick of ridiculous celebrity culture ATM. They're so self obsessed and each cheers the others on to the next bit of ridiculousness. Whilst the plebs have to get on with real life.

GunpowderGelatine · 15/09/2019 22:46

Its all he has to make him interesting the MAN is dullness personified

OhMsBeliever · 15/09/2019 22:46

Well I don't feel female or male. How do know what I'm feeling is female? Do I feel like every other female? Are my thoughts female thoughts? I guess technically they are as I am a biological female. But I can't say I've ever "felt" female apart from when my body does female things I suppose, like menstruate, be pregnant, breastfeed etc. But I certainly don't go around thinking about how womanly I feel at these points in my life.

I mean I look at the description for non-binary and it describes me. But I'm not self centred enough to go around proclaiming to everyone that I am and insisting they use stupid arse pronouns because I'm just so sensitive I couldn't possibly be referred to by my sex based pronouns.

They is being very attention seeking.
