YABU!

These replies are disgusting. Just another bunch of offensive, archaic and prejudice views that will slowly die out along with a generation.

Leolie96 · 16/09/2019 01:30

It costs nothing to be considerate! If they prefer to be called they or them it's within reason for them to ask people to do that, I dont quite get it but I don't like people using certain nicknames for me and im sure it's a similar feeling !

viques · 16/09/2019 01:46

Freddie in the mermaid film kept referring to a former partner as "they" and quite frankly, it was very confusing. Mind you, not as confusing as Freddie's own mindset but hey, there you go!

Perhaps we need new pronouns.

Sheit seems to cover all bases.......

RosesAndRaindrops · 16/09/2019 01:47

Meh. I can't get worked up. Each to their own.
Although I have to confess I find the use of they well confusing.
They is plural.
I find it confusing here in this sense, and also on the FWR board when it's used towards people who aren't they at all but used as a way to avoid pronouns.
They is plural, it hurts my head when its used for just one person Grin

See, this is where I sit on the fence as I agree with this too Smile

Caucho · 16/09/2019 01:59

It’s not a moral obligation to indulge other people’s delusions on my part. I’m sure there would always sympathise with a person thinking they’re transracial, or a dog or whatever. I actually do sympathise to an extent. What gets my goat is when the woke left are hypocrites. Why are Scientologists for example fair game to mocked and labelled as loons? Ha ha, look at those idiots.

Durgasarrow · 16/09/2019 02:07

I hate the "it costs nothing" line. You know what really costs nothing? Not demanding that people change the entire English language because you have the sadz over being not entirely gender conforming, which is true of every single human being on the planet.

Durgasarrow · 16/09/2019 02:14

See what I hate about the "it costs nothing" line is this insistence on "validation" at any price. People who assume some kind of identity that is contrary to visible reality now seem to think they are owed a conflict-free path of kind people who "validate" them because they're allies, because they agree, because they have good intentions, etc. But they also don't care if they twist arms and force people who disagree with them and force their compliance with social pressure. It doesn't cost nothing to people who are silenced by the threat of losing their jobs if they speak honestly. It costs a lot. A lot of people are not in favor of this nonsense, and a lot of people are silently seething.

TiggerOfThigh · 16/09/2019 02:24

How dangerous are all these pronouns/‘identify as’ medically?
Just a a general pondering.
Does that mean ‘identify as’ a man won’t have it pressed upon her to have a smear, or ‘identify as’ a woman won’t have a prostate exam. Or something in an emergency, ectopic pregnancy, testicular tortion?

It’s all very confusing, and people don’t half get on their soapbox.
I work on a phone, get called he probably once an hour. I’m a woman, that’s how I identify, what it says on my birth certificate. Shit happens, I do not cry about it.
I probably do it to someone on the other end a few times a day, call a man Mrs...meh.

Though some people get awfully pissy over Ms 🤦‍♀️

OkPedro · 16/09/2019 02:52

alexd This is nothing even remotely the same as epilepsy/being gay or bisexual Confused
If you think being female means wearing high heels and liking pink crack on. This is what SS thinks makes someone female. He has truly bought into stereotypes. I personally think stereotypes are bullshit.

Lumene · 16/09/2019 02:56

He should be able to express himself however he wants and I get the idea of not wanting to be defined by your sex.

He ABU though to state he believes he is female because he doesn’t conform to gender stereotypes.

TerfTalk · 16/09/2019 03:01

So, according to trans theory women have a pink brains and boys have a blue brain. Fine.

What color brain do non-binary people have?

madeyemoodysmum · 16/09/2019 03:09

No different from when Prince turned himself into a symbol
Same shit different times

Real people know it’s bollocks.

LiveInAHidingPlace · 16/09/2019 03:12

"No different from when Prince turned himself into a symbol"

It's totally different because Prince wasn't asking for symbol-based rights that stomp all over the rights of non-symbol people.

Also, Prince didn't have the personality and sex appeal of a second hand armchair. Therefore most things he did were somewhat forgivable.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/09/2019 03:22

Funny and true.

Pinkarsedfly · 16/09/2019 03:29

All this reminds me of when toddlers insist on being addressed as Buzz Lightyesr, or decide they are a kitten and will only drink their milk from a saucer, or whatever. We adults go along with it because they’re developing their little imaginations, bless them.

It’s cute when they do it. A grown man?

Not so much.

Fair point

coatlessinspokane · 16/09/2019 04:16

You use you for plural so it’s not that different. It will become natural sounding over time.

The problem in this case isn’t grammar but what it means for women when non-women start defining womanhood.

Because so far all they’ve come up with is ridiculous sexist assumptions and ideas which have been used to suppress us in the past.

PhilCornwall1 · 16/09/2019 04:23

For me, sexism, gender this that and the other didn't enter my head (it very rarely does, if ever) when I read it in the paper. I just thought, what an attention seeking twat.

breakfastpizza · 16/09/2019 04:46

I can't even imagine the ego that would drive someone to demand such a ridiculous request.

Oh right, that's because I'm a woman... Grin

JoyceDivision · 16/09/2019 04:54

He / They / X didn't have doubts of gender and pronouns when he / they / x first popped up on the music scene constantly pissed up and partying hard.

Now they is a woke tosspot.

New album due full or further MOR turgid dross, Sam?

LiveInAHidingPlace · 16/09/2019 05:15

'He / They / X didn't have doubts of gender and pronouns when he / they / x first popped up on the music scene constantly pissed up and partying hard"

Yes and these kinds of men don't seem to have any issue with identifying other white, middle class men they can form bands with, see Brandon Urie, Gerard Way and probably loads of others. Quite amazing that they themselves are completely blind to their own privilege but happy to stamp all over women's.

Nononoandno · 16/09/2019 06:39

A friend of mine was on the next table to him at an awards night bash once and he was really rude and arsy to them for just having fun and being a bit rowdy along the line of ...”who are you and why are you here” (your not famous like me shit 🙄)

x2boys · 16/09/2019 06:58

They can be whatever they want but why do they have to.make such a big deal.of it?.They are are making themselves look pretentious and attention seeking .
