... to ask WTF a VSCO girl is!?

12 year old DD has just announced to me she's a VSCO girl (followed by a peace sign) then gone upstairs to FaceTime...

Google has not helped my lack of understanding. Please, someone far cooler than me, explain in layman's terms!?

✌🏼

In my day we called them the sheep

RB68 · 28/08/2019 20:33

Apparently e-boys is the boy version

QueenArseClangers · 28/08/2019 20:40

I much prefer the vsco look (minimal makeup) to the drag queen slap face that seems to be pushed on teen girls at the moment.
My 13 year old DD has, however, made a pisstake video of her Shrek mask being one!

crisscrosscranky · 28/08/2019 20:44

Ah, then she definitely is a vsco girl 🙄

Have to agree with PP that I have been glad she seems to favour a natural look than heavy makeup (out of the house- she spends hours watching James Charles tutorials but takes the makeup straight off after applying it!)

I feel old, yet relieved I'm not going through pre-teen angst of keeping up with "trends".

From what I can see, a major benefit of vcso trend is minimal makeup.
Have these on me Flowers Gin.
I hope you enjoy the peace & quiet whilst your DD is facetime'ing

Sincethereis · 28/08/2019 20:45

Clogs
Hydroflasks
Scrunchies
Uses VSCO filters
Pink drink from Starbucks
Metal straws
Not much makeup
Quite messy hair- not obviously done, often a messy bun
Shell necklace

What I would say is that by your DD announcing she is a vsco girl, she isn’t a vsco girl Grin

It’s not something you call yourself mac

crisscrosscranky · 28/08/2019 20:47

Hmm she asked me for a foldable metal straw yesterday and I ordered one thinking it was for environmental reasons and because she hates the McDonald's paper ones... I'm cross now!

Much nicer than the trash over blown sex dolls that I see. I think my niece is an aspiring one of these.

Mammatino · 28/08/2019 20:53

I meant an aspiring vsco girl not an aspiring trash bag.

Goawayquickly · 28/08/2019 20:56

Mine became one in Spain apparently.

LolaSmiles · 28/08/2019 20:58

RB68
Very very true. The Instagram generation seem quite good at celebrating their uniqueness by being clones of each other.

PhysaliaPhysalis · 28/08/2019 21:00
is a body positive, family friendly YouTuber. Basically everything everyone above says plus a Fjallraven backpack.
Petrarkanian · 28/08/2019 21:01

I'm so pleased Scrunchies are back.
I think my daughter is trying this look out, sadly she'll definitely be a pound shop version.
I'm liking the no make up look though.

ghostyslovesheets · 28/08/2019 21:01

oh it's falling into place :D

dd3 (10) asked for a 'baggy T shirt' (got a size 8 white one) and said - 'all I need now is a shell necklace and a metal straw' - I was baffled as usual!

Goawayquickly · 28/08/2019 21:02

Having read the linked article I think I might be a natural VSCO woman in some ways. I'm on trend and had no idea!

Petrarkanian · 28/08/2019 21:03

A PVSCO girl!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/08/2019 21:04

I'm watching that link above and DD just said "Save the turtles, where's my hydro flask and scrunch?"

InterestingView · 28/08/2019 21:04

What's VSCO

OrangeJustice · 28/08/2019 21:05

And I opp xsxsxsxsx

OrangeJustice · 28/08/2019 21:05

*oop

Satina · 28/08/2019 21:07

Glad to see someone else has already linked to SierraSchultzie's YouTube Channel. I love her channel and this post reminded me of her recent video.

thecatinthetwat · 28/08/2019 21:07

Love it! Thank god for this trend - it does seem better than all the other ones I've seen lately.

ChallyCreaks · 28/08/2019 21:12

Mine are VSCO girls too! Like surfer girls but with expensive water bottles. Apparently thrifting is also in fashion (charity shop shopping as us oldies would call it Wink).

ChicCroissant · 28/08/2019 21:15

This might explain why one of DD's friends made a friendship bracelet for her - I'll namedrop tomorrow and check the facial expression for proof! Seems like a more harmless trend than some (although I'll brace myself for the backpack, they are expensive!).
