... to ask WTF a VSCO girl is!?

12 year old DD has just announced to me she's a VSCO girl (followed by a peace sign) then gone upstairs to FaceTime...

Google has not helped my lack of understanding. Please, someone far cooler than me, explain in layman's terms!?

my DD10 is an accidental VSCO girl. she doesn't really watch youtube or care about fashion but her 'natural' vibe is preppy hippy. baggy t-shirts, denim shorts, flip flops, messy blond hair and a keen desire to save the planet.

There are worse things she could be into.
Possibly just realising it's because I'm a bit like this-minus the denim shorts- no-one wants to see my orange peel thighs.

Ok so Iused the knowledeg gained her to freak my DD out as she again asked for a hydroflask. I said are you needing scrunchies and a shell necklace too. She stared at me wide eyed as I strolled off going 'sk-sk-sk-sk'.

I predict the VSCO phase won't last long thanks to mumsnet Grin

She is adamant I have been googling it Grin

Grin This thread is brilliant - yep two days of yr 7 and my dd is tsktsking much to my annoyance. Save the TurtlesGrin love it !

Mammylamb · 07/09/2019 17:59

I think I’m one too! I have Birkenstock’s (12 years old) and a fjallraven bag (handy for taking a toddlers stuff about in). Have a messy bun and wear little make up (due to toddler too lol)

Proud of DD today, she's just been shopping for the day with friends and all she's bought was from a thrift store ( not allowed to call them charity shops anymore apparently). Most impressed, makes it much cheaper and enviromentally friendly etc.

Also she's happy for me to buy her friends birthday presents from a charity shop, sorry I meant thrift store Grin

I started at a new school this week as a teacher where all the girls were doing the weird sxsxsx noise? I was baffled until some year 9 explained it! I think it's odd but I'm sure itll blow over soon enough

hettie · 07/09/2019 18:12

The noise oh my god the noise....Any teachers who are surrounded by kids making that daily you have my utter admiration at your control in not battering them with their hydroflasks

RightYesButNo · 07/09/2019 18:25

Bit awkward, but what if you are a normal adult woman who uses VSCO to edit your pictures (I don’t even use any of their filters?!)...? What am I? WHO AM I?!

Extra info: I own no scrunches. I own one pair of Crocs but they’re ENORMOUS (from when I broke my foot and it was too swollen to fit in anything) and black to try to make them look slightly less boat-sized; didn’t work as they just look like black boats, though. 🏴‍☠️

TheRollingCrone · 07/09/2019 18:31

Grin @hettie

TheRLodger · 07/09/2019 18:33

This tribe sounds a lot better than the chav/emo thing when I growing up. Wonder if I’m too old too jump onto some of the same trends 🤔

LolaSmiles · 07/09/2019 18:38

The noise hasn't reached out neck of the woods yet... Thankfully.

I bet it'll be like fidget spinners and bottle flipping and we'll get it a few months later than everywhere else.

crisscrosscranky · 07/09/2019 18:51

Well I didn't expect this thread to be quite so popular Grin VSCO is expanding into a (seemingly) real urge to save the turtles- we spent today making beeswax wraps for sandwiches to rid her lunchbox of cling film!

Turns out a vsco girl without realising!

Theimpossiblegirl · 18/09/2019 20:49

DD came home and said her friends say she's a VSCO girl. My fault apparently, she has a metal bottle, we take metal straws on holiday and spent time at a turtle rescue centre this summer. She also sports a messy bun with a scrunchie. She's denying it but if the Birkenstock fits...
