... to ask WTF a VSCO girl is!?

crisscrosscranky · 28/08/2019 20:10

12 year old DD has just announced to me she's a VSCO girl (followed by a peace sign) then gone upstairs to FaceTime...

Google has not helped my lack of understanding. Please, someone far cooler than me, explain in layman's terms!?

✌🏼

This would possibly explain why loads of girls in my year group started wearing scrunchies on their wrists before we broke up... with me asking them quizically 'is a scrunchie not for your hair?!' And getting a blank look!

Expect it will be out in full force next week when we are back. At least I have a vague idea what its about now! Grin

motherheroic · 28/08/2019 21:39

@BuzzShitbagBobbly I find myself mindlessly quoting this video to myself often!

'And I oop-' is a meme from a drag queen called Jasmine Masters. He was recording a video and accidentally hit his balls in the middle of speaking.

beccarocksbaby · 28/08/2019 21:41

@mystupidmistake I can't decide it just makes me giggle

Ooop

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 28/08/2019 21:43

@motherheroic thanks for the insider tip!

I keep trying to say the sksksks thing but my mouth just wont do it.

mystupidmistake · 28/08/2019 21:43

The whole thing is odd. Not necessarily in a bad way!! And now there’s a link to a drag queen getting hit in the balls 😂

CorBlimeyGovenor · 28/08/2019 21:43

But where is the connection between a drag queen hitting himself in the balls and wearing shell necklaces etc? I am extremely confused!

OrangeJustice · 28/08/2019 21:45

The noise is the VSCO laugh apparently.

Dd asked me if there was a part of the house she could turn into a VSCO hangout and got quite annoyed when I said actually no Hmm

EntirelyAnonymised · 28/08/2019 21:46

BED, same here. I am accidentally sporting this ‘trend’. I never grew out of it and wear it every summer.

EntirelyAnonymised · 28/08/2019 21:48

I don’t do the metal straw hangout stuff though.

mystupidmistake · 28/08/2019 21:49

What’s the hangout? A den!

mystupidmistake · 28/08/2019 21:49

?*

beccarocksbaby · 28/08/2019 21:49

SAVE THE TURTLES

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 28/08/2019 21:51

Sksksksksksksks

What happens when a VSCO girl doesn't wipe her bum properly?

She gets sksksksksskskidmarks

...according to my aspiring VSCO DD 🙄

Jammiebammie · 28/08/2019 21:52

I’ve never heard those daft noises from dd luckily, although her bun is getting closer and closer to her forehead as each day goes by!

They made their hangout on a trampoline, with duvet sheets and fairy lights and pillows, it did look rather nice I may add!

Letthemysterybe · 28/08/2019 21:54

Messy hair, minimal makeup, Birkenstock’s, Fjallraven backpack.....Sounds like at least 50% of the thirty something mums around my way are VSCO girls.

thecatinthetwat · 28/08/2019 21:54

I was a vsco girl back in my uni days. Actually, I don’t think selfies had been invented then, but save the turtles peace out

SarahTancredi · 28/08/2019 21:55

Oh God dd asked for a metal straw today.

She also keeps taking pictures of the sky/scenery and permanently has a hair band or 3 round her wrist (not scrunchies)
Is this what it is?

Jammiebammie · 28/08/2019 21:56

@TheBitchOfTheVicar I just told dd that joke and she about peed herself! I’m now a #coolmum (not really, and I guess she does know about those noises!)

Wehttam · 28/08/2019 22:02

It’s the basic bitch sheep version of the walk of shame. 🤭

Moraxella · 28/08/2019 22:03

I was waiting for wearing crocs to be a thing (outside of operating theatres).

Danglingmod · 28/08/2019 22:06

Well this is bizarre but, yes, useful for the return to school next week to figure out what the year ?7 ?8 girls are on about...

But apart from the weird noises and the shell necklaces, it does exactly describe 30/40 something Mum fashion, no? Messy bun, birkies, Fjallraven backpack, water flask...since when have teenage girls copied Mum fashion??? :-)

NettleTea · 28/08/2019 22:07

at least she's not an e-girl

BeautyQueenFromMars · 28/08/2019 22:08

@BuzzShitbagBobbly is that YouTube video a pisstake? Or a genuine example of a 'VSCO' girl?

LumpySpacedPrincess · 28/08/2019 22:10

Oh this is really sweet.

crisscrosscranky · 28/08/2019 22:11

@Danglingmod I've been so proud of her this summer for being so laid back about her appearance and environmentally friendly and now I learn she wasn't modelling my boring mum behaviour but being deliberately trendy Hmm
